2020-03-31 - The Elopement

Her heart was beating at what felt like a million miles a minute, it had felt that way since the night before when Kyle had asked her to marry him. Neither one of them wanted to make a huge deal out of it, with friends, family, and all the expenses that came with it. Not because they couldn’t afford it, but because both wanted something more simple, something more intimate.

She didn’t know when or where he had gotten it, but he had presented her with an engagement ring before they stepped into the office of the Justice of the Peace. It was no surprise that he knew her birthday and thus new her birthstone, but it was a surprise that he had chosen not one ring but two. The first a vintage-style ring with a large diamond flanked on either side by smaller sapphires. The second ring was what looked like sapphires and diamonds braided together on a white gold band. The sight of the rings had taken her breath away, “The second is safer for you to wear to work.” was his explanation for both rings.

Now with paperwork signed they stood before the judge. Marianna dressed in an elegant but simple white dress with a lace hem and sleeves, Kyle dressed in a dark-colored suit. She stood beside him holding his hand tightly, almost as if she thought this was a dream she might wake up from, or that e might change his mind at the last minute, even though she knew he wouldn’t.

The vows were simple. A do you take this man and Do you take this woman. A yes from both of them. Kyles strong and self-assured, Mari’s a little softer, no less self-assured but filled with tears of joy. The kiss that followed threatened to make Mari’s knees weak, and she wrapped her arms tightly around Kyles’s shoulders as she returned his kiss, pouring all the love and passion she felt into it until the judge politely cleared his throat. Mari broke the kiss with a laugh and a blush, releasing Kyle from the hug so that he could take his hand, and together they walked from the judge’s office. The new Mr, andMrs Addington.
