The morning air was cool, but not too terribly chilly. Especially not for the Russian. She's wearing a short sleeved shirt with a pair of black jeans. She is wearing a white windbreaker for the sole purpose of having a place to hide her EMF meter. Kip is lingering near the carousel, walking slowly - listening for the sound of the meter going off. She'd gotten a couple hits but no major readings that would make her think it was anything real.

With the nicer weather, that movie filming, and some tourists starting to trickle back in the park has a handful of patrons this morning but it's not too crowded.

As Kip passes the carousel, she actually notices a sign that read the attraction was currently down for maintenance. Two workman had a panel open, exposing the mechanicals that drove the gentle curricular motion of the ride. Everything seemed perfectly ordinary about it. Mornings were the perfect time to do this work, as the children that enjoyed the ride usually picked up frequency in the afternoon. The only strange thing is what she overheard.

"I swear, I just rebuilt it yesterday."
"Look at all the damn oil, John. You forgot to put in the fuggin' O-ring."
"There's no way! It ran all yesterday. The motor would've seized."
"Oh, so it just disappeared overnight. Right."

Kip took pause in her walking as she overheard the workmen, peering at the open panel from afar. She knew zero things about fixing anything. She's mildly curious though and can't help but take a couple closer steps as she listens to them bickering. "Does the carousel break down often?" A casual question as she looks between them and then back to the panel.

The older, grizzly faced man looks up from his work, pausing his tirade as he hears Kip address them. The younger tech beside him also looks up sheepishly, then back at the smeared motor, going about loosening the offending fitting. Old-timer breaks into an amicable smile.

"Oh no, miss. Just routine. Training a new technician and he just needs to learn why we double check things." Technician the Younger glances up at that, sending the old man a doubtful glare. The old timer goes on, "We'll have it back up and runing before lunch."

"It happens." Kip flashes a friendly smile to the technician-in-training. "We all make mistakes when we're learning." She takes a few steps off again, keeping within hearing distance just in case but still sort of side-eyeing the carousel. She'd heard the rumors, and well she knew this town was all kinds of wrong. The technician had seemed adamant that the supposedly missing piece had not been missing yesterday. Kip can't help but also keep an eye out on the ground near the carousel as if maybe the missing piece would be found there.

Nothing. No missing part lying around, no footprints. Just two technicians doing exactly what they're supposed to do to repair a leaking motor oil fitting. It wouldn't take then much longer to disconnect the hose, insert a new O-ring and torquing it back on where it belongs. They spray the assembly down and clean it, then get it running to test it. Everything goes off without a hitch. Everyone is safe, so far as anyone can tell.

But for just a moment, something smells like mildew. It could be a strange cross-breeze, maybe a clogged filter on a fountain. But a moment later, it's gone.

Kip pulls out her phone in order to make a few notes as she continues her meandering walk near the carousel. Nothing weird happening. No out of place people or animals or objects that she could tell. Maybe she was still just on high alert from the Veil adventure. She slips her phone away and inhales slowly, but then falters. Was that...mold? That smell. She looks around a moment to see i she can maybe spot what could have caused it but nothing immediately sticks out.

Mildew. Kip furrows her brow. She sniffs again but can't smell it. Maybe she just imagined it. A soft sigh escapes and she pushes a hand through her hair. She needed something to drink and she wasn't going to find it in the park.
