Cassidy pushes open the door of her house, walks in and locks it behind her. She looks exhausted. She leans against the door once it's closed and takes a deep breath and exhales.
Internal monologue
"A night at the Pourhouse. I hate that place. They did some renovations but I still... I don't know. I think it's the people who hang around there. I didn't find who I was looking for and the bar snacks took forever to arrive.
"Then the quesadillas weren't even any God damn good."
She pushes herself off the door and journeys into the living room where she tosses her purse on the couch on her way to the kitchen.
"What the hell am I doing in this town? 'You're the only one who can handle that place, Cass. Don't worry, Cass, you'll get your shot soon, but right now we need you in Gray Harbor."
She rolls her eyes. She yanks a tall glass from a cabinet and fills it with tap water.
"This town is a dead end. You can see it in everyone's face. You can feel it. Why do I keep ending up here?"
Lost in thought until her cup overflows and water starts pouring over her hand. Hastily she turns off the faucet.
She carries her water to the living room and sets it on a coaster. The bag transfers from couch to coffee table. She digs in it briefly and pulls out a gleaming steel revolver. (https://www.smith-wesson.com/firearms/model-686-plus-0)
Cassidy looks at the revolver and sighs. She sets it down and picks up her glass of water for a sip. She sets that down and picks up the pistol to inspect it.
Cassidy manipulates the cylinder latch and lets it open slowly, guided by the palm of her hand. Her breath hitches. Her mouth hangs open.
With disbelief she sets the gun delicately on the table in front of her. Her hands cup over her mouth and nose as she stares at an empty chamber.
