Dream

It's supposed to be storming like crazy over the town of Gray Harbor but tonight there is a calm.

Or is there?

This isn't really Gray Harbor but it feels like Gray Harbor. It is certainly Maple Road (maybe) and the bright marquee of the Starlight Theaters is fast approaching. Kip becomes aware of herself walking toward the marquee. What is she doing? Going to a movie - apparently.

She is alone, but there's a feeling she's not. She's going with 'friends' which are little more than blurred images in her periphery. They are talking but their conversation is muffled and impossible to distinguish, like bass notes traveling through the ceiling when the bottom floor neighbor has the music on too loud.

Halfway down the street the words of the marquee are suddenly crystal clear. The movie playing tonight is 'The Story of Kip'.

When Kip arrives to the little box office kiosk to purchase tickers, there is a young woman whose profile is covered by long black hair. Her attention is toward the ticketing computer at the moment.

Kip vaguely remembered going to sleep, right? The apartment building was relatively safe structurally. Windows had been reinforced. All that was left to do was wait out the storm. But where is the storm? Her focus was straight ahead, it was nice to not be raining right? And seeing a movie with...friends? Kip was a nice person of course but she didn't have too many actual friends. She must be with Ari, right? Kip couldn't say for sure. Before she can think on it too much though, her attention is fixated on the title of the movie playing tonight. *The Story of Kip".

That's unsettling.

Her lips curve into a light frown. This must be a Dream, right? She's a little more on guard as she draws closer to the ticket booth. Trying to get a look at the woman when she's close. "...One ticket please." Might as well see where things went, right?

Her hair is a straight, shiny black. Her eyes are a soft brown. She's dressed in the house uniform of a simple white blouse with a brownish red vest. Her nametag says 'Addy'. She's wearing amethyst earrings and a gold chain and pendant around her neck.

If Kip has been following the news and the rumors, she might recognize the ticketing agent as Addison McNeely - the young woman who disappeared twenty years ago and whose body was only recently discovered.

Addison has a sweet, innocent look about her. It's almost angellic. Her eyes express jubilance at seeing Kip and hearing her voice. "Just one? What about your friends?" Those 'friends' who stand in Kip's peripheral vision as nondescript blurs. If she were to look to either side she would see two 'friends' who look generic enough to really be, possibly, anyone in her life. And if she tried to think of who they might be they would appear more solidly as that person.

Kip had, in fact, been keeping up with the information about this Addison McNeely girl. She was curious because some of the rumors got her thinking maybe there was ghost activity to be had. The storm, however, had been putting a wrench in any kind of investigation attempts. Kip studies 'Addy' for a longer moment, wondering what this could possibly mean. But then she realizes that a question has been asked. Her friends. Right. Kip stares, wondering who they could be. Ari was one of them, of course. She sees that now.

The other was...Peter? Her younger brother. What was he doing here. She had been thinking about him lately though. Maybe it was a sign to call him soon. She clears her throat and gives a smile to Addy. "They can pay their own way in." She assures and would even step to the side as if to let the other two also pay for their tickets.

Addison's eyes seem to sparkle with delight when Kip speaks to her. The blurred scenery around Kip might even be a reflection of what Addison sees, so focused is her attention on the one woman.

"I heard the movie is very good. Can you tell me what it's about?" Addison asks hopefully, seeming to lean forward a touch in anticipation of the answer.

Kip makes a thoughtful sound as she considers the scenery again, the location, and then gives Addison a smile. "If I had to guess? It is going to be about a Russian woman and her misadventures in ghost hunting. I think it will be a good one."

There's a moment of pause before offering, "You know, if you wanted to use my ticket to see it, I could cover the ticket booth for you. I used to work one just like this. And I've already seen the movie once."

The lights seem to grow brighter and the space hums. Addison looks like she can barely contain exhileration behind those eyes shining with interest. Even the periphery appears sharper and more solid. More real.

"Is it dangerous? Are you ok? Do you enjoy doing that? Are you in any trouble?" Addison is so dedicated to Kip's answers she might as well jump out of her skin.

Kip looks a little surprised at how...interested Addison seems to be in her. Yet she draws in a breath and shrugged, putting on another smile. "I'm okay. It can be dangerous, definitely. But that's to be expected. You know I've only actually met one real ghost though. She was actually pretty chill." Kip chuckled. "We helped her in the end. I think." She looked off a moment as if contemplating that. Then shook her head and focused back on Addison.

"I do enjoy it though. And exploring the weirder things that the world has to offer." Kip rubbed her chin lightly. "I have nearly died once or twice if I'm being honest. But that outweighs all that I learn."

Addison seems to be vibrating with joy but she doesn't move. The space is getting very bright indeed. In fact, it's day time now. Addison's eyes are very wide and smile reflect unbridled mirth.

"Nearly died?"

Kip took a pause as she noticed things getting brighter. She looks around with a furrowed brow. Daytime already? She checks to see if her two 'friends' are still there before she focuses on Addison. "Sure have. Not because of ghosts though. Because of the weird stuff in this town...like, well, this for instance. But scarier." She nodded. "Once was...giant, poisonous spiders. The other was...more abstract but definitely, uh. Hurt. Think of the loudest thing you've ever heard. And then multiple that by like a thousand. It's a miracle I didn't go deaf."

"Ooh!" Addison gleefully and mirthfully yelps! She suddenly covers her mouth and looks worriedly at the day time sky.

It begins to break apart, the sky. Dark cracks spread out like veins as if the heavens were made of ceramic. Instead of sun rays there are beams of darkness starting to spread.

Addison looks apologetically at Kip. "I got too excited. They don't like that." She frowns, and is apologetic to Kip. "I'm sorry."

And then the dream is over in an instant. Kip awakens to where she might expect to be.

Kip watches to cracks forming with a concerned expression. The Dark Men maybe? Or something similar? She looks back to Addison to start to reassure her...but instead she's opening her eyes. Laying in bed where she was left. She looks to her right, Rekani sleeping beside her. She sighs and turns on her side, snuggling up closer to the Latino man. What did it all mean? Maybe he would have some ideas in the morning.
