Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I’ve climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds, – and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of – wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov’ring there,
I’ve chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air…
Up, up the long, delirious burning blue
I’ve topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or ever eagle flew –
And, while with silent, lifting mind I’ve trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.
All-American Addington: Benedict has always been one of the golden children of the family, and the family has always meant a great deal to him. Even while he was away serving, he made it back for every Christmas he could.
THS 2002 Graduate: Did you go to school with him? Benedict played football for THS as their quarterback. The team won State his senior year.
I Feel The need...The Need For Speed: From fighter jets to his souped up dodge charger hellcat, Benedict loves to go fast.
Military Man: Benedict flew fighter jets in the active duty Air Force for almost 15 years and served as a pilot instructor. Currently he's a Lt. Col in the Air Force Reserve.
Civil Air Patrol: Benedict flies search and rescue missing for these guys when he's available, to help keep his flight hours up.
District Attorney Investigator: Are you an ADA? A Defense Attorney? Involved in one of his cases somehow? Maybe you have a tip for him?
Football: Benedict loves it. He played QB in High School and for the Air Force Academy. He's still a huge fan, and plays fantasy every fall. He'd happily coach little league or the like if the opportunity presented itself.
Not Shiny: Benedict isn't Glimmering yet, so he will not stand out to those who do.
Benedict Christopher Addington was born in Gray Harbor 38 years ago, the oldest child of Christopher Addington, son Robert and Claire Addington, and his wife Emma. He has a sister who is considerably younger. From an early age he internalized the family ideas about honour, duty, service and grew to be a shining All-American example of the family ideal.
Even as a little boy Benedict loved two things: football, and speed. He was fascinated by cars, trains....and most of all airplanes. By the time he was in high school he was playing quarterback and logging flight hours toward his private pilot license, testing for and receiving it once he hit the required age of seventeen.
His senior year, the school football team won state. College, and the NFL lay ahead. But when signing day came, it was clear Benedict had no intention of going to the NFL. He signed to play quarterback for the United States Air Force Academy.
He left the Academy completed his degree, which required a certain amount of language credits - he chose Russian, believing that sooner or later the two nations would be in conflict once again. While at the Academy, he secured a pilot slot. Benedict showed a natural aptitude for flying. He would go on to log over a thousand combat hours, a career-defining moment for a fighter pilot. He was also tapped to serve as a pilot instructor. During his time in the Air Force he picked up Arabic, the language of the lands he would spend so much time flying combat patrols over.
After 14 years of active duty and 18 years away total, he found could no longer ignore the pull home. Benedict loved his job but more and more lately something had been itching at him every time he returned to Gray Harbor. Something that wanted him to stay.
Two years ago, a newly minted Lt. Colonel, Benedict elected to finish out his twenty in the Air Force Reserve (he would have preferred the Washington Air National Guard but they don't have a fighter wing), and returned home for good.
Upon returning home, Benedict secured employment with the Grays Harbor County Sheriff as a patrol deputy but has since moved to the Office of the District Attorney as one of their investigators.
Benedict is tall and broad shouldered, standing around 6'5". His build is athletic, clearly the result of a lifetime of physical fitness. Black hair is worn neat and tidy in a regulation cut, and his blue eyes are bright and lovely.
He's the sort of person who tends to stand out in any crowd, whether he's wearing a suit, a flight suit, or jeans and a t-shirt.
