Clarence

• Tenured Chief - Clarence took the job when it was offered by the previous Mayor Robert Miller. When Miller was removed from office for accepting bribes (among other things), most people suspected Clarence would topple soon after. But he managed to keep his job, and has been Chief of Police in Gray Harbor since 2009.

• On the Take - Pretty much everyone accepts that Clarence takes bribes, especially from Felix Monaghan, to look the other way about certain crimes. He pursues just enough crime not to be obvious, but he's clearly not squeaky clean.

Deceased

• Clarence Thatchery, Gray Harbor's Police Chief, was found brutally murdered Jeun 2020 while apparently camping in the Firefly Forest. The respected police officer was found with two gunshot wounds to the head and neck.

Born in the nearby town of Raymond, just south of Gray Harbor, Clarence followed a pretty straightforward path to the police force: he joined the military, then got his degree in Criminal Justice, became a beat cop, detective, corporal, sergeant, lieutenant, captain, deputy chief... and there he stalled out. The Chief of Police in the small town of Raymond was a lifer, so Clarence stood little chance of seeing that next elusive title anytime soon. In the midst of all this, he stayed married to his wife Francine and raised his three kids, sending them off to college and what-not.

In 2009, he got an offer from the newly elected Mayor Robert Miller in Gray Harbor to take the job of Chief of Police. He accepted the job, becoming quickly indoctrinated into how things worked in Gray Harbor: some crime, you just learned to accept. When Mayor Miller got removed from office under the shadowy cloud of corruption, Clarence managed to keep his job even when the new mayor Clyde Addington stepped into the role.

He's still on the take, Chief Clarence, but he's sly about it now.

An older man, now in his early sixties, Clarence still has most of his silver hair, though his hairline has receded enough to give him a broad forehead, making the rest of his face look pushed low on his head. His eyes are fading blue, and his fair skin is starting to loosen and sag with wrinkles. But he's still full of vim and vigor, despite his age. He stands a respectable 6'2" tall, and his build - though softening with age - retains the trimness of a lifetime of activity. He usually wears suits and ties, almost always has his police badge and his side-piece.
