Tragic parents. Hazel's mom left her and her father when she was in middle school. Her father became a drunk and half disappeared from her life.
Victim of Crime. Hazel was mugged and assaulted just after her 21st birthday in Seattle. She exercises as if trying to outrun that life experience. She's skittish around strangers when she's out and about on her own.

Van Morrison's 'Brown-eyed Girl' in the flesh, with a complicated post-script. 5'5" at most, chestnut, flyaway hair and long-lashed eyes of the same hue give her an approachable, girl-next-door initial impression. Observant. Agile. Curious. Quietly engaged. The slender, young woman with soft features is a dichotomy of inviting, easy company contrasted with an open air of alert preparedness for some as yet unannounced but impending moment requiring quick and decisive action.
Quiet, introverted sorts often make excellent listeners. Though her smiles are fleeting, Hazel's visage is nonetheless exquisitely expressive, her watchful gaze multi-faceted. Sidelong, measuring glances are frequent. When startled, her motions are typically blur-quick hinting at the runner's musculature within that petite, compact frame. Now and then one might observe the stubborn set of her jaw in reaction to word or deed.
