New York, New York! - Outsider, from New York
It's not big pharma, it's Glimmer - Very hard to not notice, for the bad or the worst.
Murphy always had an aptitude for the biological workings of plant life. If you ask him, he'd blame the monotonous big city living of New York City, with it's mundane color scheme of grays and blacks, forcing his thirst for color in his life. Growing up, he was mostly found on the balcony of his parent's small apartment, tending to the various plants or seeds he'd bring home. He had a knack for it, he would even bring plants from the brink of death to blossom brighter than ever before. This drive for knowing the inner workings of plant life, lead him to switch his focus on to human life and the medical use of said plants. Upon spending a few years in a medical program at New York University, he became discouraged at the realization that alternative medicines are greatly frowned upon within the traditional medical field. Rather then continue, Murphy decided to take what he's learned in the years of studies and focus his efforts on the use of alternative medicines and dropped out from NYU, jump starting his passion and his newfound career.
Coming from a very large, tight knit family, he was particularly close to his grandfather. There was always a sort of presence that radiated from him, and no matter what Murphy was going through his grandfather would sooth his mind and calm him down, making him feel safe. The older Murphy got, it felt like his grandfather needed to tell him something, but he couldn't get it out, always changing the subject, until the dreams started happening.
On the night of Murphy's twenty-third birthday, his first dream came to be. He stood in the middle of a road, looking over a coastal city he didn't recognize. Dark, ominous clouds loomed over the city as lightning flashed within. The wildlife swayed and turned as if a hurricane was passing through, but he felt no wind. To the right of the road, a large rusted, age worn sign with a single flickering light illuminated it and read, “Welcome to Gray Harbor”. Dozens upon dozens of dark figures stood at the edge of his vision. Some humanoid in appearance, others are what nightmares are based off. He tried screaming, but nothingness escaped his mouth, as panic washed over him. His body froze, as the dark figures loomed ever closer. He was helpless, and then he was in his bed. Awake, covered in sweat, tears running down his eyes, there in the doorway, the shining radiance that he is all too familiar with, stood his grandfather. "It's time for us to talk."
There he learned why he had such a connection to his grandfather, Scent, he called it. All the times his grandfather got him through the rough times, the whole reason why he was always the one Murphy revolved around; the obsession of plant life, the ability to make dying plants breath new life. It was all this “scent”. The dream would happen every night. The same dream, over and over again. The agonizing panic flooded over to his waking life to the point even his grandfather was no longer able to calm his mind. He turned to smoking, as the high would calm his mind, even if only by a little. He even started going to the gym daily as a way to focus his energy and attention away from these dreams.
For years, Murphy suffered from these nightmares, day in and day, he was tormented constantly until, finally, he had enough. Packing up his entire life, and saying his goodbyes to his family, he made his way out to Gray Harbor. To his surprise, it looked nothing like the monstrosity that plagued his mind. The dreams ceased and he began to notice his abilities become even stronger. There, in Gray Harbor, he started a new, opening his very own alternate medicine shop, Chill Out-lit, selling anything from supplements, weed, even Himalayan salt rocks, to those who needed physical and spiritual healing and providing a safe place to those who suffered like he once did.
Though Murphy's physique is more on the fit side, his demeanor paints him on the more laid back spectrum. Pseudo-messy, brown hair sits just above his crystal blue eyes, Stubble encapsulates his face, in the middle of it a big smile, seemingly spread from ear to ear. His style usually entails tight fit clothes, with either a well fitting button down shirt with rolled up sleeves or a zip up hoodie that rest firm against his body.
