"You are born an artist or you are not. And you stay an artist, dear, even if your voice is less of a fireworks. The artist is always there." -- Maria Callas

System Information
  • Addington - She's one of those. Are you family? Or, worse, one of those dirty Baxters?
  • Ballet - She used to dance, and would have perhaps gone on to reach for her slice of stardom were it not for pressure from both sides of the family to pursue something more lucrative and practical. Are you a dancer? Did you have your passions crushed out from underneath you? You and she might have something in common!
  • Connected - Odile is the middle child of a brood of three, born to an Addington cousin who married the then-French ambassador to the United States. Are you from the upper echelons of society in the Americas or Europe? If so, you might've met her!
  • Educated - Money and intelligence tends to open many doors in Academia. Odile spent her teenaged years in the The Paris Ballet Conservatory, has double degrees in Business Administration and Art History from the University of Paris, and obtained her LLB and LLM in the University of Cambridge as well as obtained qualifications to practice law in New York and Washington state. Are you an academic? She might be able to converse about a few interesting topics.
  • Fashionista - She was born in Paris, this is a given. Like clothes?
  • Foodie - She grew up within striking distance of some of the most famous culinary capitals in the world. Like food? Like cooking food? She has opinions.
  • Gym - Goes hand-in-hand with the foodie thing; she likes being a size four, thank you very much. Are you usually found doing fitness activities?
  • In-The-Know - Odile spent many summers in Gray Harbor; being part of the Addington family and having inherited the Gift, she is familiar with just how weird it is. Do you investigate the paranormal in the town? She at least will know what you're talking about.
  • Lawyer - A shark raised by sharks, she blazed a trail in her legal career as an associate in a couple of big firms before shifting to in-house counsel at various international financial institutions in New York before her mother sent her back to Gray Harbor to look after Addington business interests. Are you a fellow lawyer? A business person looking for legal advice? You probably can't afford her, but she might give it anyway for free.
  • Polyglot - She lived in Europe for most of her life, and before arriving at Gray Harbor, her practice was international. She can speak several languages. Are you a fellow fish out of water?
  • Socialite - She is an avid patron of the arts, of most kinds. Art, theatre, opera, literature and especially ballet, she tends to support and patronise organizations devoted to these subjects. Are you an artist or a writer? You might be able to find a willing investor in her.
  • Wealthy - With both sides of her family relatively affluent, to say that Odile is financial fluid would be an understatement, even though most of it isn't really her money. Are you part of the club?

Odile Addington Devereux was born to Cecily Addington, an Addington cousin who spent much of her twenties in the eastern seaboard of the United States, and Jean-Marc Devereux, formerly the French ambassador to the United States. They moved to Paris after his tenure in Washington D.C., where Odile was born several years later. She has two other siblings, an older brother and a younger one.

She was an intelligent child and for most of her life was rather bookish up until she started taking ballet, which boosted her confidence. Much of her childhood was spent hopping back and forth between France and the United States, and spent summers in Gray Harbor. She has always been familiar with the strangeness surrounding her family, and is not unfamiliar with the Dreams that plague the town. She discovered her own abilities when she was seven years of age and maintained a proficient grasp on it for most of her life - due to the geographical distance, however, she is not as adept at her Glimmer-based talents in comparison to her local relatives.

She auditioned successfully for admission in the Paris Ballet Conservatory, for which she performed. She is an avid fan of Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake, and was thrilled to take up her namesake's role in the Conservatory's production in her final year. It was, and remains, her true passion, but despite her determination to pursue the art, her parents threatened to disinherit her if she didn't push forward with a career in law, medicine, finance or politics, noting that they "indulged her long enough." While sore about it, she dutifully acquiesced and enrolled in the University of Paris for Art History and Business. She later entered the University of Cambridge to study law, obtained her LLB, and was called to the bar of the United Kingdom a few years afterwards, and worked at a few prestigious Square Mile firms in London as an associate before obtaining an LLM in Tax Law.

She moved to New York in her late twenties after accepting an in-house counsel position at Goldman Sachs, and then later at Blackstone Group, a major investment firm, taking advantage of her dual citizenship.

When the news of Margaret Addington's abdication of the reins of the family to her grandchildren, and the death of her brother, Thomas, reached her far-flung second cousin, Cecily managed to convince her only daughter to return to Gray Harbor to assist the family's new hierarchy in navigating their business assets. Ever the dutiful daughter, Odile complied, moving back to Gray Harbor in the Fall of 2021.

She is slender and clearly sophisticated, if not just for these visible efforts in bringing vintage glamor back to more modern times. Odile Devereux doesn't look older than her late twenties, with hair blacker than night, usually pulled in a neat coiffure to emphasize the sleek, elegant lines of her face, neck and shoulders. Her eyes are of a blue so pale, it straddles the line between striking and disconcerting...if anyone ever sees them anyway, given her preference to wear hats that shadow most of her alabaster complexion, and large sunglasses that take up nearly half of her visage. Pearls and bold lip lacquer add vibrant spots of color to her otherwise monochromatic palette. She is typically dressed in the latest fashions.
