The Vagabond

Vagabonden rocks gently on the waves as they lap against the wood of the dock. She's not a large boat; a King's Cruiser 33 -- a popular model with Scandinavian sailing types. Maybe this is why Ravn Abildgaard, who is indeed Danish, picked this particular boat to rent, even if it's a model from the 1970s. She's is a roomy boat for her small hull, with berth space for four adults -- six if some of them are on very friendly terms -- and a saloon slash galley that sits those same six, complete with a small kitchen area. She is a boat capable of crossing an angry sea but designed for gliding leisurely between the islands and rocky shores of North Sea or Baltic coasts. She's not extravagant in the manner of larger yachts and catamarans; the Vagabond was made for an adventurer who doesn't mind roughing it a little.

Her interior bears evidence to the fact that she's not factory new; the wooden panelling brings the 1980s to mind, but she's got a fresh coat of paint; anything that's not white has been painted in shades of blue, granting the boat a calm and breezy feel. One gets the impression that her occupant likes to keep things tidy; everything is in its place and everything works. The sound of the waves gently lapping against the Vagabond's hull is oddly tranquil and soothing.
