Seven Ages Theater Company Coming to Gray Harbor

KarmaBum -- 01:00pm on Wednesday, April 03, 2019
The Gray Harbor Chamber of Commerce, in association with the Gray Harbor Historical Society, is pleased to bring the Seven Ages Theater Company to our city during the dates of (OOC: April 10th through April 14th). The company is renowned for their Shakespeare in the Park presentations of some of the Bard's most popular works.

Addington Park will be open from sunrise to midnight daily while the Company is here, and local artists and craftsmen will have booths and tables set-up throughout the park. Family-friendly versions of Shakespeare's plays, including A Midsummer Night's Dream and The Tempest, will be performed at 10am and 2pm daily in the park.

Closing night will feature Macbeth at the Daydream Theatre.

Mayor Clyde Addington says, "I've seen Seven Ages once before in Manhattan, of all places, and they put on a fantastic show. I'm very excited that we were able to bring them to our city."

More fluff and filler about the history of the Company is included: They are headed by Edward Keene, a renowned stage performer who began his career in London. They feature Ashley Wallace and Louis Owen, neither of whom have the same star-power as Keene. Photos of the company are included - Keene, middle-aged and handsome; Wallace, fair-haired and pretty in her thirties; and Owen, plain-looking in his thirties.

Tickets are on sale at the Daydream Theatre, City Hall, and online at https://gray-harbor.com/plot/2

The festival has a "Food Row' where trucks and tents from various eateries are set up. Fried Fish has a tent, with a special menu of seafood-on-a-stick. Fish, scallops, lobster, or shrimp, grilled and fried. Because festival food should always involve a stick. Unless it's a turkey leg.

Feel free to RP near the tent, pose food from the tent, or come looking for Julia at the tent!

T.H.S. Annual Summer Dance Fundraiser

KarmaBum -- 06:41am on Thursday, April 18, 2019
The Gazette runs a puff-piece promoting the annual summer dance at Teddy S. Addington High School. Basically, it just amounts to free advertising, encouraging people to buy tickets (online or at a local business or City Hall), and letting them know about this year's theme - the 1950s.

Every June, when school is out, the staff of Teddy S. Addington High School host a "school dance" for grown-ups. It's a fundraiser. Tickets cost $40 a person or (just to give the single people good cause to complain - which they do every year, but the policy will never change) $75 per couple. You can buy them all over town; most local businesses wind up with a book of tickets, or you can get them from the school's website. Townies know about this. It happens every year. Outsiders have surely seen the flyers on every available cork-board all over town, plus on Friendzone, and in the "events calendar" on the paper. Basically, the school advertises the shit out of this event.

There are some interviews with staff members talking about how the dance is always a big success, brings in a bunch of money, etc. There's some half-serious giggling about how it's always the adults that seem to need the most supervision, so don't worry! The school will have plenty of chaperones.

Event info is here: https://gray-harbor.com/event/8 - or you can type events in-game.

Murder-Suicide

AlmightyMe -- 03:41pm on Tuesday, April 23, 2019
The bodies of Samuel "Mac" McManus, 48, and his daughter, Heather McManus, 19, were discovered late Wednesday evening in an abandoned home on the outskirts of town, approximately 2.5 miles east of Bayside Highway. Chief of Police, Clarence Thatchery, issued a written report indicating that the cause of death was murder-suicide and that the Gray Harbor PD will not perform further investigation.

After inquiry with the Chief Thatchery, the Gazette rescinds its earlier report that the deaths were linked to "some weird sex cult thing." The Gazette further notes that the reporter who broke that story, as well as the police officer who was overheard making those claims, were put on a temporary leave of absence.

The bodies were transported via ambulance to an unnamed medical center in Olympia for processing. Neither Samuel McManus, a reported employee of the Firefly Club, nor his daughter, were residents of Gray Harbor. The Mayor's office did not respond to inquiries about the incident.

Gray Harbor Braces for Summer Storm

KarmaBum -- 08:03am on Friday, April 26, 2019
A piece runs on June 18th about a storm that Gray Harbor expects to hit early in the day on Friday the 21st. The article lets residents know that the storm is expected to bring high winds, thunder, and heavy rain.

The Gazette tried to get an interview with members of the city planner's office, to talk about what they're doing in advance to prevent flooding on Elm Street, where the sewers back up every time there's a notable storm, but they had no comment. There is a note that the City is already putting pumps in place, though, to try to divert the water.

They also interviewed a few locals loading up on bottled water and canned goods at Safeway. Because there are always a few nuts that insist this will be the Storm of the Century.

Downtown construction expected to last three weeks

KarmaBum -- 10:48am on Sunday, April 28, 2019
The Sunday morning paper runs a story about construction coming to the downtown area of Gray Harbor. Although the upkeep to the city's sewer system had been planned since the start of the year, the project was put on hold till summertime, in the hopes that there would be a few weeks of good weather that would minimize disruptions.

The project will start on Monday, June 24th, and is expected to last at least three weeks. Residents of Gray Harbor should be prepared for delays when driving downtown, and some sidewalks will be closed during the construction.

There are a few quotes from downtown business owners about how they expect the disruption to impact their revenue, followed by some comments from Mayor Clyde Addington about how the project is necessary to try to minimize flooding (especially on Elm Street) during severe storms.
