Downtown construction goes awry

KarmaBum -- 06:56pm on Saturday, May 04, 2019
The Sunday Gazette cover-story is all about an explosion downtown. The Pew Pew Pie pizzeria was badly damaged when it exploded after construction crews accidentally ruptured a gas main under the building. A few neighboring structures were also damaged, and the city is sending out engineers to make sure no additional buildings were damaged by the blast, which occurred around 1pm on Saturday the 29th.

The article includes a few interviews with people around town who heard or felt the blast as far away as Bayside. It also includes interviews with the Mayor and several members of the Police and Fire Department, all of whom promise a thorough investigation into the cause.

Kosimar Psychiatry is newly reopened in a new location. Settled in the outskirts of Gray Harbor, it's a place that caters to the needs of children that are feeling like they have no one else to talk to about the things going on in their lives.

Doctor Irvriya Kosimar is a Psychologist that specializes in the care and treatment of adolescent patients with behavorial issues that have to do with mental stresses.

OOC: This is mostly fluff given we have 18+ PC's, but if you have a PC that has a child or little ones in the family that might need a helping hand, feel free to reach out to Minerva ICly. 🙂

Derrick Henderson Found Dead

Penny -- 08:07pm on Monday, May 13, 2019

The name Derrick Henderson might be known to some of the older and local residents of Gray Harbor, he was a local man that went on to play in the NFL for the Seattle Seahawks. He was not a first string player though, so he wasn't widely known. He was in town visiting his sister, Doctor Penelope Faust, local Coroner, while he was waiting for his home here in Gray Harbor to be ready.

Mister Henderson was found stabbed to death in bed late on Friday the 12th. His sister was found in a pool of her own blood on the front porch by a neighbor after the neighbor heard a commotion. Doctor Faust is in the ICU currently. There are no further updates at this time.

Mayor's Statement after Multiple Murders

KarmaBum -- 07:00am on Monday, May 20, 2019
The landing page of the Gazette's website shares a video of Mayor Clyde Addington's statement, given on the steps of City Hall, early in the morning on July 23rd.

The statement addresses the recent deaths of several members of the Addington family, beginning on July 1st with Susan Lewis. It discusses how the death of his "cousin" Susan lead to the tragic deaths of Isabel and Robert Addington, who had come for the funeral. And he reveals that, late in the day on July 22nd, the body of another of his cousins - Gregory Addington - was found in his home. He talks about his fear for the rest of his beloved family, including his beautiful children, but ends with his confidence in local law enforcement to track down this killer and bring him to justice.

Follow-up questions included one about whether or not there was any evidence suggesting the Addington murders were related to other recent events - such as the attack on Penelope Henderson and her brother Derrick or the reported killing of a tourist on July 20th. The Mayor calmly deflects that question, saying he hasn't heard anything from the Chief of Police to suggest as much.

The press conference ends with a statement from Police Chief Clarence Thatchery, who urges everyone in Gray Harbor to remain calm but alert, and to report any suspicious activity to the police immediately.

Dual Suicides at Stone Bridge

Kevin -- 01:26am on Tuesday, May 21, 2019
Posted online the night of July 22nd with a byline of "-Kevin Walters, Addington Memorial Hospital"

Two persons, still unidentified by police, have committed suicide by hanging themselves from Stone Bridge. Sources with knowledge of the matter have identified Joseph "Jack" Michaels III and Hank Winslow as the two who ended their lives. This marks the third generation of Michaels men who have hanged themselves from Stone Bridge. Perhaps thankfully, Mr. Michaels does not leave any children behind to carry on his tragic legacy. Mr. Winslow is survived by his daughter, Lilith Winslow.

While the Gray Harbor Police Department remains silent on the matter, our sources have confirmed that four others were involved in trying to prevent the suicides and that there was an incident involving at least one gunshot -- three of those involved have sustained serious injuries. While the injured persons are expected to make full recoveries in time, they are being treated by surgeons at Addington Memorial at the time of posting, and Gray Harbor has still suffered dual losses in Mr. Michaels and Mr. Winslow.

City Stalked by Murders

KarmaBum -- 10:10am on Thursday, May 23, 2019
The Sunday, July 28th, edition of the Gazette runs a story about murders that have been happening all month in Gray Harbor. Several staff members are included in the by-line. The details of the article include:

  • July 1st: Unnamed victim found at the Bayside Apartments.
  • July 13th: Derrick Henderson was murdered; his sister, Penelope, survived the assault but was hospitalized.
  • July 20th: Kelly Carr, a tourist visiting her sister, was murdered while visiting her sister, who is not considered a suspect.
  • July 23rd: Gregory Addington was found murdered in his home. His wife found the body and is not considered a suspect.
  • July 27th: Irene Reede was found murdered in her home. Her husband found the body and is not considered a suspect.

The story is the first time the "Gray Harbor Ghoul" gets mentioned publicly. Locals have already started comparing this rash of murders to those committed by one of Gray Harbor's most notorious inhabitants: William Gohl, also known as Billy the Ghoul, a serial killer active in the early 1900s whose body-count is estimated to be over 100. (The paper doesn't include the link, but most locals would have heard of him: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billy_Gohl)

The paper ends the article by asking a few burning questions: Who is committing these murders? And who is next?
