Chaos erupted at the Addington Park Zoo today when several visitors became entangled in severely overgrown plants with thorns, resulting in numerous injuries.
The Park and Zoo staff have indicated there's been an uptick in the presence of pricklier flora, including Oregon grape, black hawthorn, shrub rose, and the ever-present, much-despised Himalaya blackberry bush, and with the arrival of spring these plants have grown to unbelievable proportions. Several Zoo patrons were cut by the thorns and spines on these plants after falling into them or tripping on the overgrowth. Park maintenance has vowed to cut back the plants, especially the invasives.
There are also reports the Zoo parrots have been trained to swear. Spring is on a roll here in Gray Harbor!

Ads for Addington House's garden party have been running in the Gazette for a while now. For a moderate donation, guests are invited to a formal cocktail party in the gardens, beginning at 7:00 PM on Friday, April 17th.
There's more info about Addington House as a museum (https://gray-harbor.com/wiki/business:addington_house), a link to the website to buy tickets, the usual stuff.
OOC: This is for the "Midnight in the Garden" event at 2pm Pacific / 5pm Eastern on 11/16. No special invitations needed. Your toon just needs to buy a ticket. 🙂

A note in the Gazette in the Entertainment section indicates that an independent film The Night Bird will begin production in Seattle in May with scenes to be filmed in Gray Harbor in the coming months. A call for extras will be going out with postings of what sort of people they are looking for on what days for filming. Locals interested in participating are encouraged to submit two recent photographs in everyday clothing -- one a headshot, and one a full body shot, along with the answers to whatever questions are asked for costuming purposes.
(OOC: Anyone interested in participating in the scenes associated with this, feel free to sign up or contact me for further details.)

Starla Merriweather walked off the set of Night Bird on the first night of filming in Gray Harbor after sustaining injuries while filming in a rented house. Some speculate she was injured in a stunt gone wrong when a wall was blown out of the back of the house, leaving the actress with lacerations. The homeowners are reportedly suing the film company for the damages, and the production is looking for another location to continue filming. It's a rocky start, for certain, but people are still lining up for a chance at Hollywood fame and to be extras in the film.

The Control Pad, Gray Harbor's local destination for all your video gaming needs was mysteriously closed over the weekend. An employee discovered the owner, Abitha Machinae, unconscious in the back room Sunday. She was subsequently rushed to the hospital.
Kyle Warren, the employee that found Machinae, explained:
"I closed Friday, and Mac- I mean, uh, Miss Machinae was supposed to be alone at the shop all Saturday because I have exams and Sparrow -that's my coworker, shes uh... Nice. Uhm- was busy. I had a short shift Sunday, and when I came in, the shop was still closed and I found her at the bottom of the stairs passed out. She looked really hurt, so I called 911."
No comment yet from Machinae herself. Her employees have decided to leave the shop closed until she can return. Not much is known yet about what transpired leading to the injury, but sources say signs point to a fall.
Machinae is a recent transplant to Gray Harbor, and besides owning the Control Pad is a moderately successful video game streamer, known under the alias, MacTheKnife.
