• People get max three rooms. You can use owners/list <name> to see what people already own. If they are requesting more than three rooms (or trying to build another when they're at max), it's a hard stop.

  • It's okay to sanity check. If a business doesn't seem like it fits in somewhere, recommend they move it somewhere else. If a person's history doesn't seem to jive with their home request (e.g., they're flat broke but want to live in the Bayside Apartments), let them know.

  • If people request multiple rooms off the same main build, it should be <Main Name> - <Additional Name> - e.g., "Awesome Business" is the main building, so "Awesome Business - Loft" and "Awesome Business - Dungeon" would be additional builds; "4 Bayside Road" is the main building, so "4 Bayside Road - Backyard" would be the additional build; etc.

  • If they request the main name of a residence be something particular (e.g., "Smith House"), be sure you go back to the exit into the residence afterward and use: shortdesc <exit>=<# Street> (<Something>) so the formatting stays correct - e.g., shortdesc 99=99 Oak Avenue (Smith House).

  • If the person provided the desc in the job, you're welcome to add it or not. The person can always update it once the room is done.

  • Close the job with instructions for how the person can access their build. A good closing blurb is something like:

All set! If you're IC, you can:
`jump <room name>`
CHOOSE ONE OF THE TWO BELOW THAT MAKES THE MOST SENSE
`home/set`
`work/set`
`desc here=<your desc>`

Of note: When you build in neighborhoods, the exit from the street into the house needs to be a two-digit number (e.g., "04" not just "4"). This keeps the exits ordered nicely in the room. 🙂

Huckleberry Mobile Homes

Poor people.

build Space <#>=<##>,O
desc here=Single-wide trailers, that sums up life in the Huckleberry. Each space has enough room for one car to park, usually under an aluminum carport, and a few people have taken to putting potted plants out front, but still. The place is generally dilapidated. The interiors range from completely wrecked to somewhat pleasant, depending on the amount of effort the owner wants to expend. They all tend to follow the same layout: Enter into a living room space of about 13' by 7'; pass from there into a narrow kitchen about 10' wide with just enough space to squeeze a small, two-seater dining table; beyond that, a tiny "hallway" leads into the bathroom; and terminates at the bedroom door, where there's only enough room for a queen-sized bed at most and a couple of nightstands.

Broadleaf Apartments

Slightly less poor people.

build Apartment <#>=<###>,O
desc here=The standard apartment in the Broadleaf is one or two bedrooms, with as many bathrooms, a galley-style kitchen, an open-concept dining and living room combo with fireplace, and engineered hardwood floors. A short hallway leads to the bedroom(s) which have closets. In two-bedroom layouts the master bedroom has its own bathroom.%r%rThe walls are all painted in neutral gray tones with white-painted woodwork. The floors are also a pale grey wood tone. Fixtures and finishes are simple but modern.

Along Elm Street

Lower middle class.

build <#> Elm Street=<##>,O
desc here=Small, single-family homes that were primarily built in the mid-1900s, houses on Elm Street are the sort that get advertised as "fixer-uppers." There are a lot of rental homes here, the two-and-three bedroom properties run-down and in need of attention. Interiors are usually dated, with hardwoods that are nicked and dented or carpeting that could stand to be ripped out and replaced. Many are stuck with just one bathroom, though a few have taken advantage of partial basements to create tiny mother-in-law suites. The yards are pocket-sized, and only a few of them even have a garage - always detached, always single car. Vinyl siding on the exteriors almost always wants to be replaced.

Along Spruce Street

Middle class.

build <#> Spruce Street=<##>,O
desc here=Single-family homes with the occasional duplex, Spruce Street was mostly developed in the 1980s, though many of the homes have since been remodeled - and a few are relics of an older time that still retain some of their original charm. Most are two-story, though a few bungalows are scattered among the houses here. The interiors are generally well-kept, though some could stand to be updated. Three bedrooms is the most common, with two bathrooms, small basements, and unfinished attic spaces. Most are owner-occupied, but a few rentals are found here and there. Everyone keeps their yard tidy for the most part.

Along Oak Avenue

Upper middle class.

build <#> Oak Avenue=<##>,O
desc here=Houses on Oak Avenue are three to five bedrooms and two bathrooms, all generally well-maintained. Most are two-story, though a few bungalows are scattered among the houses here. Most are older homes, built anywhere from the early 1900s up through the mid-1960s, though quite a few have been remodeled both outside and inside over the years. Hardwood floors are common inside, and vinyl siding is the most common exterior element, typically in subdued shades that blend nicely into the neighborhood. Detached garages are common, along with small attics and basements.

Along Bayside Road

MOSTLY upper middle class, but people can request to live out here if they're not so rich.

build <#> Bayside Road=<##>,O
desc here=The older homes on Bayside are small, beachfront cottages accessed by narrow driveways that slice up through the hills. The less expensive houses have obstructed views and are closer to town. More expensive homes are farther from Gray Harbor, and their driveways are longer, leading to better views along the ridge. These may break from the typical architecture, some having been constructed according to the exacting demands of their eventual owners. The lots here are too steep for most to have proper yards, but they all typically have manicured landscaping.

Bayside Apartments

Upper class / wealthy.

build Apartment <#>=<##>,O
desc here=These bright, spacious apartments are sleekly modern and updated inside. Pale hardwood floors and lightly-colored walls add to the sense of airiness within. One or two bedrooms with one or one-and-a-half bathrooms, they all follow the same general layout: entering through a window-lit living room, one can see into the small dining room, though most also boast a breakfast bar between the kitchen and the living room; the kitchen has high-end appliances, small but well-ordered to make it functional. A front-facing balcony is accessed through large French doors, the nicest of which look right out onto the ocean, and the less expensive models face toward the road and the city. Down a small hallway, one finds one or two bedrooms and one or two bathrooms. The master bedrooms also have their very own small balconies on the other side of sliding glass doors.

Businesses

build <Business Name>=<2-letter Alias>,O
No default desc.
owners/set <list of owners>

Note: If you are also building them a residence attached to the business (e.g., loft, apartment, etc.), please be sure you use area/set <Area> Residential on that separate room (e.g., area/set Downtown Residential).

Once that is done, you need to add a wiki page.

  • Create a page - Either click this link or go to the "Community" menu and select "Create new page" from the drop-down.
    • The business page should be named: business:New business
  • Select the "Blank Business Template" from the drop down. This will populate the page with the template.
    • NEIGHBORHOOD NAME - Change to match the name of the street (e.g., Bayside Road), "Downtown" for downtown/strip mall, or "Gray Harbor" for businesses not off one of the named streets (Outskirts of Town, for example).
    • BUSINESS TYPE - A brief summary of the business (e.g., Bar, Coffee Shop, Restaurant, etc.)
    • YOUR NAME - The PC's name who owns the business, or "Contact staff to own this business" if it doesn't have a PC owner yet.
    • NEIGHBORHOOD/EXACT BUSINESS NAME - This allows people to use the jump command to reach the business, so it has to be exactly the name of the room you want people to use. In this case, NEIGHBORHOOD is a short version - Park, Bayside, Downtown, Elm, Maple, Oak, Spruce, or Gray Harbor.

Once you hit save, you need to do just a little bit more.

  • Click the "Edit" button.
  • Change the Title (not the page name, but the Title, in the second box) to remove the business: at the front. This will make it so the business shows up with just its name throughout the wiki.
  • Add the tags: NEIGHBORHOOD, business
    • Neighborhood should be the name of the neighborhood/street, all lowercase, with underlines for spaces. The full list of tags you should add by neighborhood is below.
    • addington_park, business
    • bayside_road, business
    • downtown, business
    • elm_street, business
    • maple_road, business
    • oak_avenue, business
    • spruce_street, business
    • stripmall, business
    • miscneighborhood, business

If it is a business that's been donated to the game that is available for people to take over or work at, add the tags: available, hiring

Your page will now show up on the list of businesses and in its respective neighborhood page.
