We encourage player-run-plots! PRPs, TPs, plots, whatever you want to call them - they're the lifeblood of a sandbox game, and we want you to feel free to have fun with them.

Yes, there will be staff-run stories, but keep in mind that the staff here are players, too, so there's almost nothing we can do that you as a player can't. 🙂

For the most part, personal plots don't require any sort of staff approval. Major plots should be sent via request to staff for approval.

Bring Your Own Adventure

Dreams are meant to allow players to run their own plots, exploring whatever little niche you'd like for however long you'd like. Get together a few buddies and go on an adventure! Some suggestions:

  • Blast from the Past - The Wild West, the Roaring 20s, World War I, the Roman Empire, Ancient Egypt. You're not really in the past. You can't change anything. But you can pretend and interact. Play out a story while you're there. Bring some friends!
  • Take a look, it's in a book - Explore the world of your favorite author. Are you in Middle Earth? Narnia? Neverland?
  • Be a Kid Again - Dream of a world of pure imagination.
  • Fight the Monsters - Go to battle against a werewolf. Rid a house of gremlins. Follow a fairy through a haunted forest.
  • Confront a Ghost - Get spooky. It's fun. 😃

The only rule for BYOA plots is that you can't "bring something back." If you go to Neverland, you can't bring back the Tic Toc Croc. If you fight a werewolf, you can't cut off its claw and wear it around your neck.

These things aren't real. They're manifestations of the Veil. While they can help or harm you (and potentially even kill you), they don't leave behind a physical imprint in the real world. If you find a magic clock that lets you go back in time, you can't actually alter anything - all you can do is play through the events. The real world exists as it always has and always will. "Whatever happened, happened."

Major Plots

If your story tics any of these boxes, check with staff. 🙂

  • Anything that impacts a significant number of NPCs that don't "belong" to you. As a rule of thumb, anything that might impact more than 50 NPCs should be run through staff.
  • Anything that would require an update to a room on the grid for longer than 2-3 RL days (e.g., burning city hall).
  • Direct interactions with Dark Men. The Dark Men will constantly be prowling for anyone who Glimmers, and they may constantly be exerting pressure on your character, but direct encounters with them "in the flesh," so to speak, can only be run by staff. If you'd like a direct encounter with one, please send a request to staff with an outline of what you have in mind.

If you're not sure if you need staff approval before you run a story, please feel free to send a page or request. We'll be happy to let you know - and to help if you need it.
