7 Oak Avenue - Downstairs

A brightly colored rug greets everyone who enters the house, protecting the old hardwood floors from dirty shoes. A cubby for shoes sits below a coat rack to one side of the door, opposite the stairs which lead up to bedrooms and to the landing which overlooks the foyer. It's a spacious home with a fairly open layout, the hall to the left of the stairs wide before it spills into the spacious living room at the back, furnished with mismatched second-hand selections from local thrift shops. Two of the three doors to the left side are at an angle. The one which isn't stands partly open most of the time, offering a glimpse of unoccupied bathroom beyond. The door nearer the back of the house is umarked, but the one at the front has a flippable sign declaring it the QUIET ROOM, its state either FREE or IN USE (shhh).

The formal dining room to the right of the entrance has a big walnut table that's getting on in years, bearing more than its fair share of scuff marks and scratches, but it can easily seat eight before the room gets crowded. Most of the chairs which surround it are from the same set, but a few have had to be repaired or replaced. Further in, the family room features a frankensteined sectional sofa made of pieces from at least three different collections, patched together into a rough L-shape, half of which faces the fireplace, half of which faces an entertainment center with a couple gaming consoles hooked up to a flat-screen TV.

All avenues eventually lead back to the kitchen and its informal breakfast nook where the residents more frequently dine. It has lots of counter space, a gas stove and a large pantry, but it's the high-end cookware which assures there is certainly a chef in residence. Windows look out on the backyard garden, and french doors open out onto the deck.
