Mariah had put on her jacket and grabbed her coffee on the way out the door. There were some people giving her the eye, but she didn't seem to care. She wanders down the way, waiting for Nathaniel to come out. She seems to be in good spirits and that might mean something is wrong. Or that she's looking forward to something?
Nathaniel is slipping on his jacket as he steps back outside, glancing around to locate the pretty pale hair, then altering his steps to head her way on the sidewalk. Hands are eased into his pockets to contain the fidgeting, "Hey..." The smile is authentic but maybe a little nervous, "I figured you would be busy working until long after I finally crash out. You sure Theresa isnt going to kill you for taking a break?"
Mariah gives a soft smile when he steps outside and there's a wave to him, "Hey there." she grins at him. "And yeah, I'll go back to work after I talk to you. I just know you generally sneak out before tenish." she admits. Apparently she had his times down. "Nah, she won't. I'm hoping not at least." she chuckles. "I wanted to ask you something and if it's completely not my business...just tell me. But do you have a girlfriend?" she asks him.
To the first comment, he rolls a shoulder and colors a little, "Always have to get to the school a couple hours before the kids do, so even on the weekends, I end up getting up at 6." He trails off at the question and blinks, looking for a moment like he forgot how to do talking. At least he recovers quickly and murmurs, "Uh, me, girlfriend?" He smiles a little, "I'm not exactly a magnet for single women, no."
Mariah gives a smile to that, "I totally understand that. It's not a bad thing." she tells him. She gives a soft smile when he answers her and there's a shake of her head as she drinks her coffee as he speaks. "Okay. So no girlfriend." she nods to that. "Are you doing anything next Thursday night? I've got tickets to see Hellboy and I don't have anyone to go see it with." she admits.
Nathaniel arches a brow at the mention of the movie, "I saw the trailers. Man, I'm hoping they don't screw this up, I..." Look goofy, she asked you about going to a movie. He blinks, "Yeah! Yeah, I can make sure I don't have a mountain of papers or any parent conferences on Thursday. That'd be great. Noone was beating down your door to ask you to go?"
Mariah gives a smile and then a bite of her lip, "I actually bought two tickets because I was going to ask you to a movie or coffee...and I kind of assumed that you might like comics? I'm sorry if that's horrible of me." she admits. "I'm really hoping it's good. I loved David Harbour in Stranger Things." she tells him. "It's at 6:30, so I figure it won't keep you out too late." she adds.
Nathaniel colors a little more when she explains she bought the ticket with him in mind, it wasn't a case of having it left over and finally considering him. Clearly he's not used to such attention, "No, that's...no, not horrible at all. Im flattered. And...yeah, no, I dont mind being out a little late for good company. Thank you." He fidgets a little and his smile warms up a bit more, "The popcorn and drinks are on me, then. Fair enough?"
Mariah bounces a little, happy to have someone to go to a movie with, "Thank you so much for going with me, I know it might be a bit odd, but, I wanted to get to know you a bit more and I figured that a movie would be nice. And I'm rambling." she grins. "I think that is a fair trade. I'm not an expensive date really." she tells him.
Nathaniel grins at the enthusiasm and chuckles, lowering his voice, "I dont know, considering how much tickets and concessions are, it'll set you back a week of tips and me a weeks salary." He winks once at that and steps a little closer, glancing back at the bar, then her, "Want me to just meet you there, or should I come by here after I escape the school?"
"People who go to the movies and don't blink at spending money on concessions are drug dealers. Seriously." Mariah laughs at that. Then she gives him a smile, "If you want to my place is just right down the way, 28 Spruce street. I'm going to get off of work about five and then come home and get cleaned up." she admits. "So want to pick me up about 5:45ish?" she asks him.
Nathaniel bobs his head, "5:45 sounds just fine." He might even be distracted all day. The students might appreciate a film day. Sure they will, "And yeah. You're like right around the corner from my place. I had no idea, but...well, you DO own this place, I guess I'd want to live close by, too."
Mariah gives a smile to him, "Thank you for being so agreeable." she grins to that. "And for not thinking I'm nuts." she adds. Then she gives a nod, "I think it's nice that you live so close." she admits. "Soooo, 5:45, next Thursday. If you leave me hanging I will ugly cry into your next drink." she teases him.
Nathaniel shakes his head and clears his throat, lowering his voice, "No, not nuts at all. You just caught me way off guard. I've seen how hard the hot guys hit on you at work. I just assumed you had someone, is all. There's not a chance I'm going to be late, promise." He might even lose a limb and still try to show up.
Mariah gives a soft smile to that, "Eh, some guys are probably just looking for a quick hit it and quit it." she shrugs. "We can talk about that more though. Sometime down the road." she smiles. "I won't be late getting ready, I promise." she tells him. "So, I should go back in before Teresa is overrun by drunks. You coming back in or going home?" she asks him.
Nathaniel glances back at the bar for a moment when she talks about going back in and looks conflicted for a moment, then mmms, "Its still pretty early, but I suppose I better get back and get some of the papers finished. Are you working tomorrow? Maybe I can head back around when its not quite so swamped with folks."
Mariah gives a soft smile to him, leaning up to kiss his cheek, "Thank you." she whispers to him. Then she straightens her jacket and looks like she's going to be heading back inside. "You be careful on the way home. Don't get into any trouble." she grins at him.
Nathaniel colors again at the kiss, reaching out to lightly touch her side, and needs a moment to clear his throat, before he nods, "I ought to be thanking you. I will. Thank you, Mariah. I'll, uh, see you tomorrow, hopefully. Good luck with the rest of the shift, hmm?" Yeah, he's gonna stand there for a moment while his brain reravels.
