"Read a book, he says. A boring book. Well, I guess there are more awful things." Erin reaches into her bedside table before remembering she'd switched apartments for her safety's sake. Wth all of the Addington deaths, she moved apartments and even floors. Nothing in this apartment was her own personal belongings except the few things she had brought with her.

Namely, the bare minimum of clothing and her cell phone. Though bringing the latter was probably not very conducive to hiding out with trackers and all that. Oh well, she had her cell so she would make liberal use of it.

Unlocking it with her fingerprint , she pulls up the App Store and hits the magnifying glass. Anything was distracting at the moment. Only.. it wasn't. As she types in Kindle and searches for the app for her iPhone, her mind is already drifting not to boring books but to her own safety. Which inevitably leads to security guards. She really should hire one. A professional person who knew what they were doing. She knew one person to fit the bill and the thought of hiring him and showing the weakness of her at her most vulnerable brings a scowl to her features.

Hitting the download button she sprawls across her bed, sideways, delighting momentarily in the sheer size of the bed until her screen alerts her to the completed download.

An image of a scoffing face dances through her mind and she flops over onto her back, holding the phone up in both hands. "I need a book." Signing in to her account she poises her finger above the little keyboard. "I can't just search for boring books." Grrr. A little frustrated growl as she hesitates still. Sitting up, she drops the phone on the bedspread and leaves it there before pushing to her feet.

There's much pacing, all through the apartment from the main bedroom through the house where she pauses to check the door is locked then marches back to the balcony off her room where she looks out to the city below. Who wanted them dead? Maybe a shorter list would be who didn't. The Addingtons had ruffled enough feathers in their time, but her parents?

Her parents hadn't been around at all, so there was no reason. The thought she'd been far too afraid to voice to anyone is there in her mind. To get to me. Was it? Were her parents killed just to hurt her? She was certainly in a position with her grandmother to cause ripples in the family. Family members higher up on the totem pole but with Erin taking their places in her grandmothers affections. Maybe. It was possible. Not probable though.

She was reaching. Closing the balcony door, she turns for the bed then thinks better of it and turns back to lock it and pull the shade over it. She'd already checked the windows, they were all locked. "Why am I letting this drive me so crazy? Why am I letting everything affect me?" Her, talking to herself, she mentally calls herself all sorts of crazy. Walking back over, she flops on the bed and reaches for her phone. Kindle was her friend. But she needed a good book, not a boring one. Something to genuinely distract her. So she starts looking through the best sellers, reading the reviews. And promptly falls asleep laying sideways across the bed with her phone on.

That lasts all of half an hour, tops. Her phone chimes and she blinks a few times to get good and woke up. Reading the text, she stifles a yawn as she taps out a response. As soon as she hits send, she turns off the screen and places the phone on the charger, leaving it there beside the bed. When it chimes again, she checks it, laughs softly, then turns the screen back off. Rising, she finger combs her hair and checks over her clothing, a wry look at the wrinkles. Oh well, at least it wasn't pajamas! After a moment she goes to the living room to wait, leaving the lamp on in the bedroom, a soft glow from there so she wouldn't enter to darkness.
