(TXT to Cassidy) Gabriel : Pursley interview was a bust.

(TXT to Gabriel) Cassidy : k

(TXT to Cassidy) Gabriel : They know the fish thing is bullshit, too. They just want to screw with Foster and protect their view from their home.

(TXT to Gabriel) Cassidy : yup

(TXT to Cassidy) Gabriel : Now, look. It could be that Foster doesn't know the weaknesses of the case. Or that he wanted all impediments out of the way. But you have to imagine his attorneys are just as good as Pursleys'.

(TXT to Gabriel) Cassidy : uh huh...

(TXT to Cassidy) Gabriel : And some lawsuits are just the cost of doing business with a new big construction protect. So putting out a professional hit is a going a bit overboard.

(TXT to Cassidy) Gabriel : Project. Not protect. Autocorrect.

(TXT to Gabriel) Cassidy : Ok. So I have a question, since you seem to know a lot about this.

(TXT to Cassidy) Gabriel : I'm not sure I know anything. But yeah?

(TXT to Gabriel) Cassidy : Why interview them at all?

(TXT to Cassidy) Gabriel : Because maybe they heard of a threat against the Krugers. Maybe the Krugers had some smoking-gun evidence that they were going to use and that showed why they were offed.

(TXT to Gabriel) Cassidy : I mean if all you're going to do in witness interviews is confirm what the ADA already knew, maybe I'll just sit at the station with a swami hat on and you can ask me all the tough questions instead.

(TXT to Cassidy) Gabriel : Oh. So you knew, for certain, from the source, that the Pursleys barely knew who the Krugers were?

(TXT to Gabriel) Cassidy : Yeah, Clouseau. What did you think? That a real estate mogul was having swinger swaps with expert ENVIRONMENTAL witnesses? Inviting them to tea? Going for mini-golf? They tell their lawyers to stop something and then the LAWYERS figure out the angle and find the witnesses. The Pursleys probably didn't even know what to file suit on. They just told the lawyers "handle this"

(TXT to Cassidy) Gabriel : But you knew it. Just didn't assume it. Like, have a witness-interview form that's in the murder book and that I can flip to.

(TXT to Gabriel) Cassidy : I also -assume- the Pursleys didn't consume any of the flesh of the deceased. Want to go ask them?

(TXT to Gabriel) Cassidy : So what's next? Where is the solution? Or am I just feeding the DA another dead end and no plan?

(TXT to Cassidy) Gabriel : No. Because we have an autopsy report that shows the deceased's flesh wasn't consumed and I can document that.

(TXT to Cassidy) Gabriel : Morgan and I are going to circle up and figure out next steps. Still knocking on doors. It can still be Foster. But we need more than hunches if we're going to go hard at his finances and other records. We'll put this down.

(TXT to Gabriel) Cassidy : Who the fuck is Morgan?

(TXT to Cassidy) Gabriel : Charlie Morgan. I'm her partner on the case.

(TXT to Gabriel) Cassidy : Oh the smart one? Was she with you for the interview!

(TXT to Cassidy) Gabriel : Yes.

(TXT to Gabriel) Cassidy : gdi

(TXT to Cassidy) Gabriel : Some things don't pan out. You need to eliminate stuff as well as rule stuff in.

(TXT to Cassidy) Gabriel : You know this. It's just a pep talk.

(TXT to Gabriel) Cassidy : I have a meeting with the DA in two hours. Thag gives you 15 minutes to tell me what your next lead is and how you're going to investigate this case.

(TXT to Cassidy) Gabriel : I don't know. I need to talk to Morgan. We're doing this together. I'm re-canvassing some of the Sea View residents. See if anyone saw anything that might've been missed by the uniforms. Something's got to shake loose.

(TXT to Gabriel) Cassidy : Fine. An hour. I need something to bring to the DA. 'Knocking on some more doors' isn't good enough. These people were murdered over a month ago.

(TXT to Cassidy) Gabriel : Professional hits are hard to close. It's why they're professionals.

(TXT to Gabriel) Cassidy : Oh. Well let's give up then. Where are you at with the serial murders? Those are easier I hear. Let's talk about that.

(TXT to Cassidy) Gabriel : Fuck you. We're going to close it. It's just going to take time.

(TXT to Cassidy) Gabriel : You want my best lead? You get the grand jury to issue subpoenas for all of Foster's bank accounts and pen registers and then your Boss can take the Hell when Foster eventually finds out we're tearing through his life based on a hunch. Bring that up in your meeting.

(TXT to Gabriel) Cassidy : Whoa, Watson! Neither I nor the DA are responsible for your uninspired investigation. But I AM the only person in town who CARES if you do a good job or not.

(TXT to Gabriel) Cassidy : So think! What can be done from where we sit now to generate some motion on this?

(TXT to Cassidy) Gabriel : If it's Foster, shooter could be one of his security people. I could go out to the construction site, see if I can find anyone who matches the type, but it's going to be hard. Pretty generic build. Or it's not Foster, and this whole damn lawsuit is a red herring and someone took them out for a different reason. I can make another pass on the daughter. See if someone is sniffing around the land now that it's going to be hers.

(TXT to Cassidy) Gabriel : This is all the whiteboard shit that you don't usually need to hear, but you want to hear it, so here you go.

(TXT to Gabriel) Cassidy : You think the solution oriented thinking is what I DON'T need to hear, and the problems are?

(TXT to Gabriel) Cassidy : Ok. When you go to the casino go in a beat uniform with a city building and ordinance inspector. Find /anything/ - anything at all.

(TXT to Cassidy) Gabriel : Even better, I'll send a uniform we trust so that when they take my badge number they don't find out right away that murder police are wandering around.

(TXT to Gabriel) Cassidy : Yeah. It's an elevator permit inspection or a Disabilities Act compliance inspection. City Hall always backlogs this stuff. I'm sure there are at least half a dozen reasons on file why an inspector needs to be there.

(TXT to Cassidy) Gabriel : See what we can do.

(TXT to Gabriel) Cassidy : Want to grab a croissant after work?

(TXT to Cassidy) Gabriel : Sure. And then I can go die on my couch.

(TXT to Cassidy) Gabriel : But is this a trap?

(TXT to Gabriel) Cassidy : Ok. And if we don't have any new leads by the end of today I'm stepping on your flowers. Byeeeeee 💁🏼😘

(TXT to Cassidy) Gabriel : I will shoot you and no jury will convict. Love you!

(TXT to Gabriel) Cassidy : Shoot me in a dream and you better wake up and apologize.

(TXT to Cassidy) Gabriel : Solving murders now! Byeeee!
