They go to the same church together every Sunday. Occasionally, they chit-chat a little afterward. They like to talk Spanish at each other. Also, Gabe runs into him a lot at the hospital.
Another of Gabe's neighbors. And also a fellow parishioner at Saint Mary's. Gabe knows she's a nurse, and that her parents own the Sea View Suites. And that there may be some shady ties in among all that? But he's not looking at her as a possible villain.
Gabe knows the guy is an ex-con, but he also gets the sense that Geoff is someone that's truly reformed himself. They see each other at church every Sunday. Geoff regards him warily. Gabe can't really blame him.
Ever since she opened for business, Gabe's been going there to get his hair cut. She does it the way he likes, and he's a creature of habit. Plus, he's pretty sure something happened to this girl. He's just not sure what it was. Yet.
Gabe only really knows him 'cause they're neighbors.
Every cop in the city knows who Felix is and what he does. Gabriel - like all those other cops - would love to be the one to finally make the case against the guy, but he's just too slippery.
There's nothing that anyone can pin on him, but Gabriel knows that Graham works for Felix Monaghan, which means he's somehow connected to the seedy underbelly of Gray Harbor. To date, he hasn't run afoul of the law enough to warrant a proper file. But Gabe has an eye on him, like so many others.
Gabriel knows full well that this guy is a street-level peddler for Felix Monaghan. But the guy seems mostly harmless, so Gabe is okay with looking the other way.
They see each other at church. Gabriel knows the guy is tied to Felix Monaghan's business - his cousin and enforcer - but he can't prove anything.
Her husband - Pierce Robbins - shot himself in the head in their study. Gabriel's pretty sure it had more to do with his having 'psychic troubles' than anything else, but he still had to clear Clarissa as a suspect. He was just doing his job, but there's some lingering resentment that. Gabe should be used to it by now.
The sister of the deceased Lucy Harris-Miller, Emily Harris was also there that night. Which put her as suspect number two, had to be cleared as soon as Logan was. She was another one that he wasn't really convince was guilty, but there was definitely something off about her - and not just in the itchy, "special" way. The fact that she blew town for over a year as soon as her sister's body was in the ground has always sat uncomfortably with Gabe.
When Lucy Harris-Miller fell down the stairs in her home in January 2018, there was no doubt that her husband Logan was the first suspect. Something had been going on in that house that night. Gabriel was the detective assigned to the case. Though he never personally believed in Logan's guilt, it was still his job to rule the man out as a suspect. It started their relationship out a little rocky, but Gabe doesn't dislike the guy. Despite everything. They live on the same street now, and Gabe tries to be neighborly. As much as you can with someone you once had to investigate for murdering his wife.
A good first date. Let's see where this goes.
Hair so red she stops traffic in all for directions. Nerdy, but adventurous nerdy. Stares The Line down and then takes a leap right over.
Ink for miles and a dancer at the Platinum Cabaret. Free spirit, even when it screws things up.
He's a detective. She works for the D.A. Of course they know each other. She has the same sort of bulldog mentality when it comes to work, which is just fine with Gabe. They also go to church together. And live on the same street. It's a small town.
Fellow detective and partner on a whole bunch of cases, including the Sea View double homicide. Kid's as cute as a button. Got her back, no matter what.
A beat-cop that Gabriel is pretty sure takes money to ignore a lot of crime. Other than that... the guy seems fine. Lazy, but that explains why he's still working a beat after all these years.
The Chief of Police. Gabriel doesn't have a lot to do with him directly, most of his involvement is filtered through Gabriel's lieutenant, but Gabe - like everyone in town - knows the guy is corrupt. It's just impossible to prove.
The Captain's got his fingers in so many pies that I think he's opening a bakery. But he always gives me the hardest cases and is fair about things. Can't ask for much more than that.
- Homicide Detective - A town like Gray Harbor has way more violent crime than it should. Part of Gabe's job is to investigate that. He technically works homicide, but he'll dabble in whatever crimes come his way.
- Known Commodity - Although he's not a local, Gabe has been around Gray Harbor for the better part of the past five years as a cop.
- Looks the Other Way - Petty crimes? Not his division. He's got bigger fish to fry.
- Way Into His Yard - He has a nice little house over on Oak, and his front yard is super pretty. Like, he really loves his flowers. Don't step on them. He might arrest you.
From San Francisco originally, Gabriel migrated up north after he got out of the service. He did a tour in the Army, which parlayed nicely into his goals of becoming a cop "when he grew up." His family is still down in California - mom, dad, two sisters, a brother - and he tries to get down there to visit every now and then, but they're not like he is. They don't have that spark in them, and it's always made life awkward. For him, that spark manifested when he first set foot in Gray Harbor. He had come home from four years in Iraq, obtained a degree in Criminal Justice at UCSF on the military's dime, and wound up taking the job in Gray Harbor almost on a whim.
The second he got here, something in him shifted. He felt... different. It was like a little missing piece in his brain had finally filled in. He couldn't really say that Gray Harbor was home, but it sure felt like he was gonna fit right in to this odd town with its dark underbelly. He was twenty-six then, and a beat cop, and he would spend the next couple years refining not only his ability as a police officer, but also this strangeness in him. There were others like him, he knew, and he found himself drawn to them like a moth to a flame.
He bought a house over on Oak. He took up gardening as a release from the pressure of work. And he became absorbed in Gray Harbor. He buried himself in the town's lore, and he's been chasing the ghosts - literal and metaphorical - that this city has to offer, almost as doggedly as he chases its criminals.
Tall with brown hair and eyes, clearly of Hispanic descent, Gabriel is a decent-looking man in his mid-30s, not stunningly handsome, but he's easy enough on the eyes. He tends to keep his beard trimmed, but it's always there, never seen clean-shaven, lending a few extra years to his appearance - so he seems a little older than he really is. His features are nice enough on the whole, though his nose has a "broken" look to it, as if had a bit of a mishap at some point. At 6'2" tall, with a physique that he obviously spends some effort to maintain, it's probably the height-and-build combination that make him remarkable more than his general looks.
