Owen steps out from the Thai place with a plastic bag heavy wit hthe weight of a take out carton or two dangling from one of his hands. He was dressed for the weather and not for work in jeans and a light fall jacket as he stands under the covered awning of the store and looks out at the drizle with a small frown.

The dinky little, barely ever working, car that Everly drives pulls in crooked to a spot, and she climbs out. Instead of using an umbrella she pulls the hood of her grey hoodie up over her head, locks the door, and makes a mad dash towards the Thai place, putting her on a path to potentially run over anyone between her and the door.

His phone beeps around the time she is pulling in and he pulls it out from his pocket with his free hand to thumb through it. His eyes are down at the screen, his frown deepending slightly while his eyes move over the words there so he was not paying attention when she is dashing towards the door until the sound of her foot steps are right there. He blinks, steppings quickly to the side with his takeout back getting puled in behind him, but still lagging behind just enough to whack into her if she continues on her path.

It's just enough time for her to damply run smack into him and his take out, and when she does, Everly bounces back and ends up on her tail end, "Shit!" She exclaims, half sprawled on the dirty sidewalk outside the place, her expression looking like she's ready to unleash a whole lot of anger, "What the fuck?" She wonders, looking upwards at him, teeth baring at him, "You should seriously watch where the fuck you are going."

He outweighs her by a decent amount, but momentum being what it is, when she runs into him he staggers a step back, his grip on the bag tightening, but the force of the impact swinging it back to smack into the wall, cracking the Styrofoam container with in so brownie noodles are visible in the bag. His first reaction is looking towards her in concern instead of anger, making sure is alrright.. but then her words come up at him and he blinks at her. Quiet for a moment and then, "Are you fucking kidding me? you just ran into me." he says and lifts his bag to look at it, spotting the broken carton, "And maybe ruined my dinner. You won't melt, lady, its just rain."

"Prove it." Everly retorts before she gets to her feet, her hands brushing against her jeans, then she glances at her hands themselves, the scratches there, "You were in my way, and I'm well aware that rain doesn't melt you. That's idiotic." She then scrubs her hands off on her jeans before she looks at him again, frowning, "But I'm aware that walking around in wet clothes sucks, especially if I'm getting back into my car after."

"Prove it?" Owen retorts back, "Holy crap lady.." he says with a shake of his head, "You want me to go get them to pull their security footage and show you how I was just standing here? If I was as much of an asshole as you seem to be I'd do that just to charge you with assault." He frowns down at his bag, "Whatever. I need to go get a new carton for this so it doesn't leak all over my car. Make sure you use the door instead of just running into the wall when you go in."

"I don't think that meets the requirement for assault." Everly doesn't actually know, but there is a growing curious look on her face for it. Does it? Either way there is a shrug of her shoulders before she puts out a hand, "Everly Kelly."

"Technically, it applies." Owen remarks and then looks back to her when she offers her hand and the name, a brow raising slightly, "Really? Just like that?" he says with a hint of a frown and then shrugs himself, his free hand reaching out to take the offered on, "Owen Hallet"

"Nice to meet you, Owen." Everly gives his hand a shake, then she lets go of the hand to move towards the door, pulling it open, then she waves him inside, "I'll buy you some drunk chicken or fortune cookies or whatever." It's a complete switch from where she was moments ago, cussing about him running into her. "So, explain how it technically applies?"

"Assault is the act of inflicting harm or unwanted physical contact upon a person. Since you clearly," clearly, "Ran into me.. it applies." Owen explains as he move sback into the door since she is holding it open, "I've seen assholes press charges for less... but you don't need to buy me anything. I just need a cargo that won't leak."

"I've seen assholes do a lot of things that never make it past paperwork and their own nose." No she hasn't, has she? Probably. Either way as soon as he's through the door she follows, letting it swing closed behind her, "Probably good idea, leaking food containers are a bitch. I had to clean maple syrup out of my car just last week. That doesn't clean easily."

"Maple syrup? That.. yeah. That sounds awful." Owen wriinkles his nose at the thought of it and then moves on up to the counter so he can get the attention of the wait staff. A few words exchanged and he hands his bag over just to have it repackaged. He gives a look back at her, "You look a little familiar. You from around here?"'

"Born and raised." Everly agrees with a nod, leaning against the counter while she waits on him to get himself sorted out. Once they turn their attention towards her, she offers a smile and holds out a slip of paper, "Extra spicy this time, please." She then glances back over, letting her eyes slide over him before she tilts her head, "You from around here, too?"

"Same.. born and raised..." OWen answers back at her and then really peers at her, "You look like you're a bit younger than me so probably just crossed paths in town or something, probably didn't go to school together, at least as classmates."

There is a shake of her head, "Probably didn't...and I didn't start dating guys in high school until I was at least like...fifteen." Everly reaches into the pocket of her hoodie, starting to pull out the money to pay for the order, sliding two twenties over. "But, I work at the Waffle shoppe, if you ever go there...and then the strip club."

"I'm guessing I was graduated and maybe even deployed by then." Owen says with a small laugh at himself and then squints at her, "What year did you graduate?" His own bag is handed back, repackaged all like knew, "Waffle Shoppe and strip club... I'm a little worried to ask which the maple syrup is from. But yeah.. probably saw you when I was getting waffles or something."

"Waffle Shoppe. I brought home waffles, hit the brakes a little too hard..." Everly lifts her hand up, smacking it across the other hand to indicate just what happened to the waffles. "But I graduated in '08. You go to Kelly's Gym? Out on Elm." She shoves her hands back into the pockets of her hoodie, "Might have run into me there, too. I tend to go there too. Cousin owns it."

"Ah.. i was 04. Just miss you." Owen says with a shrug, "I use the gym at work instead... but I'm sure we've seen each other in passing. Place isn't that big and all. My guess is the waffle shoppe. I'm a detective, been known to stop by there for waffles a time or two, especially late."

"Oh, a cop?" Everly slowly nods at him before she pushes herself away from the counter, "Interesting." She glances towards the front windows, then back, "Yeah, I'm sure that we have. Not many places...small town, all that sort of shit."

"Yeah. Interesting." Owen smirks over at her a moment and then looks out the window at the drizzle too. "First time we've managed to run into each other.. or, well, you run into me... be careful on your way to your car, yeah?"

"You too, Detective. Watch where you're going, never know what might be out there." Everly points out, waving a hand towards the window in clear indication of people like her.

"I'll keep that in mind. Start wearing hockey hear when I get thai food." Owen says with a smirk at her and moves ot the door to open it and this time holds it open for her. Probably not just so he can watch her walk through it.

The bags of her own order are grabbed, "Just might want to skip the mask there, Jason." Everly points out as she heads towards the door, moving through it when he holds it open for her, "Drive safe, Detective."
