Instrumental music common to commercials for local businesses begins to play. A slideshow of a white victorian house with fade transitions plays for a few seconds before a title screen of 'Lawson Funeral Home' crosses the screen. It transitions to an office where an old man in his eighties sits at a desk with a slightly younger man in his sixties and a woman in her thirties.
"Hi." The old man says. "I'm Rick Lawson Sr. This is my son Rick Lawson Jr."
The slightly younger man says, "Hello. This is my daughter Beth Lawson."
Beth smiles into the camera and speaks in that slightly stilted manner that business owners have when doing local commercials. "All three of us are funeral directors at Lawson Funeral Home where our family has served yours for over fifty years. We are a small independent family owned and operated funeral home. We care about our community because we are a part of the community unlike those big chain funeral homes."
Rick Sr grins gleefully into the camera, "Today we'd like you to consider preplanning. Preplanning for your final rest can take a burden off of your family in their time of grief. I am preplanning because I don't want my son, grandchildren, or great-grandchildren to have anything else to worry about when I pass on."
Rick Jr smiles tightly before he says in a slightly stilted rehearsed voice, "Our funeral home pre-plans are insured by the American Funeral Association so if anything happens and, god forbid Lawson Funeral Home closes, your money will still be there when your family needs it. I am preplanning because I want the process to be as breezy as possible for my family. Especially my busy adult children."
Beth's smile grows slightly more natural, but she still sounds rehearsed. "Preplanning isn't just for the elderly. I am preplanning for my funeral because if the unfortunate happens I know that customizing my funeral to my own personality while I am alive will allow me to give one last gift to my parents, family, and friends. It really is like a final love letter to those you care about most."
Rick Sr smiles like the cat who caught the canary, "Let me give you a piece of advice that I've always given to my son and granddaughter. You don't plan to fail. You fail to plan."
All three Lawsons say in unison, "We're preplanned and you should, too." Rick Jr says on his own, "Stop into Lawson's Funeral Home today to get the process started with our experienced and knowledgeable staff waiting to serve you."
The local commercial instrumental plays again. Lawson Funeral Home with the address, phone number, and web address flashes across the screen. Beth's voice plays over the end title, "Conveniently localed on Spruce Street in Gray Harbor."
The commerical ends and is replaced by local programming....
