(TXT to Yule) Anne : Hi Yule. This is Anne Washburn. I got your letter and am very intrigued.
(TXT to Anne) Yule : Hey ya. Thanks for getting back to me. Think you heard a bit about the... well, lets just say experiments and testing I want to do. Been pondering the implications, and how to keep the data as safe as possible. Not just in general... but from Them as well.
(TXT to Yule) Anne : I know what you were willing to talk about at the coffee house, but not much else. That being said, I think trying to keep the data safe is an experiment in and of itself. Records of this stuff don't seem to last.
(TXT to Anne) Yule : Right. So, I have a lot of ideas. A lot of them, I'm sure, will turn up nothing. That's all part of science though... even supernatural science, yeah? But let's start first with the data. I want to keep it anonymous as possible of those who decide to contribute samples. I wonder if data is kept... in code, and anonymous, and it isn't clear that it is about 'glimmer' ... if it will help keep the data safe. If it looks just like anything else that is ordinary. Or does it not matter... do they still know, somehow.
(TXT to Yule) Anne : I'm not sure to be honest with you. I think it's logical to assume that if the data itself seems wholly normal, then it wouldn't be tampered with. But the question is, how does someone become aware of the code? If we're talking about preservation for future generations, the code would need to be handed down SOMEHOW - and if it's completely oral, that just leaves room for things getting forgotten along the way. Or falling into the wrong hands and being tampered with.
(TXT to Anne) Yule : Some sort of cipher, likely. Cross that bridge when we get there, yeah? First step seems to be having two people, at least, know what the code is orally, and see... if the data vanishes or not after a while. If it still gets ate? Well, no point in worrying how to hand it down to future generations.
(TXT to Yule) Anne : Hmm. Point. Are you thinking of storing this entirely on a computer? Flash drive? Are we writing stuff down? Maybe we need to have multiple copies - electronic and hard copy. It'll help us test whether or not the data gets lost.
(TXT to Anne) Yule : Yeah, multiple copies. Somewhere stored on a computer, with the aggregated data on hard copies. Cause... well. I'm hoping to get several blood samples to analyze for, lack of a better term, supernatural elements. Be it genetic markers, or other markers seem with the Talent. Destroy samples once analyzed, keep no records of who contributed it, etc.
(TXT to Anne) Yule : Which is where I'm hoping you can help out a lot. I know how to use a computer, but I have no idea how to create something that can store this in a meaningful way. And keep it secured, electronically.
(TXT to Yule) Anne : I can definitely help you figure out storage, electronic and otherwise. It'll take me a few days to figure out the right set-up, but I don't think we need anything overly complicated. It's the hardcopy storage that I think will be most difficult. Like, where would we put it? Keeping it in one of our homes seems.. entirely too dangerous.
(TXT to Yule) Anne : I wonder if we can find a place that isn't a frequent haunt for ... people like us. You know, some place that's almost shiny-free?
(TXT to Anne) Yule : I've been pondering that as well. A place, or... a material. Everything always seems to have some sort of counter, yeah? Lead for x-rays, kryptonite for superman. I've been pondering doing tests on various materials to see if there isn't anything out there that is... unaffected by what people like us can do. Even removes the ability to use those powers.
(TXT to Yule) Anne : You know, when I was at the Addington House party that turned the place into a giant snow globe, someone made the room.. null. We couldn't use our powers and whatever was affecting us couldn't use theirs, either. We were still STUCK, but it seemed like everybody was rendered useless in a way. But the affect didn't last. Still, I wonder if it can be done long-term.
(TXT to Yule) Anne : If we could do that, create a safe room so to speak..
(TXT to Anne) Yule : Interesting. Do you know who did it? Or did you... see how it was done? We could create an archival room, of sorts, for all of the data.
(TXT to Yule) Anne : I don't. I don't remember, everything was just sort of HAPPENING and we were all panicking. But maybe Alexander knows someone who can do it? It wouldn't protect the room for mundane vandalizing, but it would stop SOME stuff.
(TXT to Anne) Yule : Interesting. I'll touch base with Alexander. And I think we can figure out how to protect it from mundane vandalizing. Just depends on where we find to put the room at, and what not.
(TXT to Anne) Yule : And if you are interested in helping donate to the experiments? Well, let me know what concerns you have, obviously. You know where I'm going with it now. The more blood samples I get to analyze, the better chance I have at either finding something... or knowing there is nothing there to find, and going a different direction.
(TXT to Yule) Anne : I'm pretty sure it's a temporary effect, the null room, but that doesn't mean we can't figure out a way to make it long-lasting. There's got to be a way, you know?
(TXT to Yule) Anne : I'm very supportive of the experiment but less supportive of using myself as a test subject at the moment. Not until we can find a way to secure the data.
(TXT to Anne) Yule : Has to be. That's part of what I'm trying to figure out too, embuing items with... well, longer term effects. But that's a whole different ball of wax. And fair enough. Let me touch base with Alexander. In the mean time, if you can start helping with the more mundane encryption and method of storing data digitally? Just let me know what you might need.
(TXT to Yule) Anne : I'll start working on it. Might need someone techy to help with the encryption side of things, but organization is my jam 😉
(TXT to Anne) Yule : Perfect. Don't know that I know anyone techy - I'll ask around, or if you have someone to refer me to, I'll go chat them up.
(TXT to Yule) Anne : I don't know anybody but I heard there was some kinda internet place that opened up called 'The Hub'? Maybe they know somebody 😃
(TXT to Anne) Yule : Good to know! I'll check it out. And thanks again. I'll reach out once I have more info.
(TXT to Yule) Anne : Sounds good. Nice talking to you, Yule 🙂
