She feels so heavy...like she can't move. Her entire body feel sore and she is exhausted, like the energy's been drained of her. She can feel his arms around her as she returns to her reality but she immediately sinks into a deep sleep. And she sleeps for hours longer than she usually does.
Yawning a bit as he wakes up, Jonathan takes a few moments to wipe the sleep from his eyes. He pauses as he sees Katy is still asleep, leaning in to gently kiss her forehead before sitting up on his side of the bed. He remains quiet for now, not wanting to wake her yet.
Something doesn't feel right when Jonathan kisses her forehead. She feels really cold, despite the room being heated. He can see her chest rising and falling, indicating her breathing, but she is unusually cold.
Jonathan blinks, hesitating as he feels that cold. "Hey..." he offers, a bit quietly as he reaches out to gently poke at her shoulder. While he didn't want to wake her, that was before he felt how cold she was. Now there's concern on his features as he tries waking her up.
The concern begins to pile on as Jonathan realises that it is a Monday morning and he is awake before she is, and that his little early bird is unusually difficult to rouse and wake up. The time on the digital alarm clock on the side table reads 10:47 and it occurs to him that she had gone to bed nearly 12 hours earlier.
Jonathan gets a bit more worried now, as he pulls off covers to see if she's gotten any kind of wounds. After all, that could explain that coldness, and that she's having difficulty waking up. "Katy? Are you okay?" he asks, words a bit louder now.
No wounds. But there is bruising, the kind of bruising that usually shows up after a physical altercation of some sort. As Jonathan is checking her for wounds, she is starting to stir, and moan.
Jonathan lets out a bit of a relieved sigh as he hears her stir, and he looks to her face again, offering her a smile, even though it's an effort to keep the smile there and not just the concern. "Good morning, beautiful," he offers to her. "For once, it's about time you woke up, dear."
Moving a lot slower than usual, Katy sits up, and between the bruising and the cold, she seems to be suffering a bit. "What?" she asks, disoriented and confused.
Smile fading now, although it fades into relief as he sees she's at least awake and moving, Jonathan grimaces a little. "You slept far longer than usual, and are very cold. I checked to see if you were wounded, and you look to be a bit bruised," he offers, quietly. "Did... something happen while we were asleep?"
"There was so much screaming...I thought you were in trouble..." Katy says quietly, holding a hand up to her head, rubbing her temple, "I don't remember this one. It was cold, like winter." She squeezes her eyes shut.
Jonathan winces as he hears that, reaching out to place his hand on her shoulder gently. "I'm sorry..." he offers, rather quietly. "I know how frustrating it is to not remember..." At least they were both there the last time.
"I can barely move, like the life's been sucked out of me. I want to just sleep all day...but we gotta check out and get back to Gray Harbor..." As soon as Jonathan places a hand on her shoulder, she starts to warm up a little. She gingerly wraps her arms around and she starts to feel warm again as they embrace.
Jonathan embraces her more fully as she wraps her arms around him, nodding a little at what she says. "Unless you're feeling too unwell for the drive back home. If so, we should either find out if we can stay here one more night, or find another place here or on the way back." It's said quietly, as he offers her a smile. "The most important thing is your comfort."
As he holds her, Katy feels herself slowly return to her regular body temperature. "I wanna go home," she says quietly, though she is still in a weakened state.
Nodding a little as he hears that, Jonathan smiles momentarily. "Okay. But if you start feeling worse at any point, we stop as soon as we can, okay?" He's unable to hold back a bit of a sigh. "We should eat something, though. Even if you're not really hungry, you need some energy for the trip back home."
"Yeah, I guess we can order room service." Katy relents at this, feeling really hungry. "You know what it feels like, coming out of this...whatever it was? It feels like I got the Glimmer completely sucked out of me." She thinks for a moment and adds, "It feels like I had to expend a lot of energy, use a lot more Glimmer than I was comfortable with..." She sighs.
Jonathan nods, letting out a bit of a breath. "Looks like you've been in some kind of physical altercation as well," he offers, quietly. "The most important thing is that you've woken up again, though. Some food, and us getting back home, and we'll have you back feeling well soon," he offers.
Katy attempts to stand, but feels really wobbly on her feet and has to brace herself against the side table in order not to fall.
Jonathan gets to his feet, moving over to support her wherever she's about to walk to. "Are you sure you're able to head home today?" he asks, quietly as he watches her, concern back on his face.
Katy's eyes turn a pale shade of green for a moment before they turn back to normal again and she lets out a growl of frustration. "I've never dealt with this much overexertion before. I just...overdid it a little," she explains quietly as they head over to the bathroom so she can start washing up and getting ready.
Jonathan nods a little bit as he hears that. "I know. It's a bit of a feeling of helplessness, isn't it?" he offers, helping her over to the bathroom. "I'll be your cane, for you to lean on," he offers to her, with a smile.
"It's hard to figure out where my limits are with this sort of thing," Katy replies quietly, leaning on Jonathan, "Anyway, I just need to get on with it." When they arrive in the bathroom, Katy leans over the sink, and it looks like she's starting to get some color back in her skin.
"True," Jonathan replies, before he offers her another smile. "I know you will. You're far stronger than many others I know, after all." He offers her another quiet smile.
"You're just saying that, how many people do you know who Glimmer?" Katy mumbles as she washes up her face to try to get some semblance of life in her features again.
Jonathan shakes his head a little bit. "I probably know more people who Glimmer than I think," he replies, before he adds, "But your strength is far more than just what has to do with that, my dear."
"I'm sure I'll be fine once I get some food into me," Katy says casually, "We can leave after lunch."
"After lunch sounds good," Jonathan replies, offering her a brief smile. "I'll drive on the way back, so you can regain your strength." The offer is given with a smile, and kept quietly. "Not that I think you can't handle it, but I think you could use the chance to relax. And you deserve the chance to rest after putting together the wonderful day yesterday for me."
"I would appreciate that, actually. And you know I would do it all again for you." Already looking a bit steadier on her feet, Katy finishes up in the bathroom before heading back to the bedroom to gather her things and change out into her jeans and hoodie.
Jonathan smiles, "I know. Which is another reason why I love you so much." He nods, smiling as he sees she looks better. Following her out as he starts to gather his own things, he smiles. "So, eat before checkout, or finding a place to eat after we check out?"
"We could eat at the restaurant downstairs if you want," Katy suggests as she changes out of her Red Wings nightshirt into her jeans and hoodie.
"That sounds like an excellent idea," Jonathan replies, taking a few moments to get dressed before dropping the rest of his clothing in his bag, smiling as he looks around again. "This suite was really nice, but I believe I like the apartment even better."
"Oh yeah?" Katy says as she finishes packing up her things, her attention focused on his voice while she gets herself ready to leave.
Jonathan nods. "Maybe it's having stayed in hotels for a long while, first in Grand Rapids, then in Detroit, and on the road. Besides, while this room has a bit of the spirit of the great masters of music called the Beatles, the apartment has the spirit of... well, us." There's a brief pause, before he adds, "I'm rambling on a bit, aren't I?"
"No you're not rambling at all, sweetheart," Katy says as she goes to wrap her arms around him. "I get it." Seeing his happy smile, hearing him talk about the apartment and how much he liked it, it reassures her in ways he doesn't know. "I love that I get to share that place with you."
As she wraps her arms around him, Jonathan leans a little towards her, without doing so in a way that will rest his weight against her. "Me too, my love," he replies, with another smile.
Something about the way Jonathan is speaking makes Katy emotional, and before she can hold it all back, tears fall from her eyes, despite the fact that she wasn't crying.
Jonathan looks to her, pausing a bit as he sees the tears. "What's wr..." he begins, stopping as he remembers there are times when people's tears are because things are right, not just because they are wrong.
"I'm just glad none of it was real and that you're okay," Katy quietly whispers to him, and for the first time, she shows signs of the emotional trauma that went along with her physical trauma.
Jonathan nods a bit, pulling her even closer, simply holding her close, as comforting as he can. He looks around the room for a few moments, then back to her.
Katy doesn't say anything while lets the tears pass, then she says in a quiet voice, "I hate feeling helpless, especially when it comes to helping you...it felt so real, like...the first time I saw you after you got your concussion...when I sat with you in the dark and just held you while you cried...you were in so much pain and I couldn't help..."
Jonathan pauses as he hears her words. "That helped more than you know... maybe not with the pain, but knowing you were there for me made a lot of difference for the time that came." He goes quiet again as he looks around, focusing on one of the pictures on the wall. "But I know how much feeling helpless hurts."
"It never really leaves you..." Katy admits, "It's part of what drives what I do every day for a smile from you..."
"It never does. But at the same time, it can bring good things. While the feeling is one of the worst things, it can inspire us to do things for good." Jonathan smiles at her. "I think there's a bit of a circle here. If my smile makes you happy, so does your reaction to it make me happy. Which in turn makes the smile come again."
"You always seem to know what to say to make me feel better, Jonathan..." Katy comments as she slowly pulls away. She seems a lot more solid on her feet, still worn out and tired, definitely still sort, but at least stable on her feet.
Jonathan smiles, "That's part of what makes me likeable, I guess." It's said rather lightly, as he watches her for a few moments. "So, should we get our things into the car, then get lunch?" he offers, quietly.
"Yeah, let's do that." Katy managed a smile at this. "I'll grab us a table and you can put the bags in the car." She hands him the keys from her pocket.
