(TXT to Easton) Katherine : Hey, E. Just checking in. I wanted to let you know I was thinking of you.
(TXT to Katherine) Easton : Appreciate it.
(TXT to Katherine) Easton : (...)s
(TXT to Easton) Katherine : Did Bennie mention the check I passed along?
(TXT to Katherine) Easton : Yea. She did.
(TXT to Easton) Katherine : How are you holding up?
(TXT to Katherine) Easton : And frankly, I'd rather you put it in the box or handed it to me.
(TXT to Easton) Katherine : I just wanted to pass it along and stay out of your way.
(TXT to Katherine) Easton : Ok
(TXT to Easton) Katherine : I meant it when I said the last thing I wanted to do was upset your life.
(TXT to Katherine) Easton : Trying to believe it.
(TXT to Easton) Katherine : Trying? What's making it so hard to believe?
(TXT to Katherine) Easton : My issues. Not you. You know how money is in my family
(TXT to Easton) Katherine : Doesn't change the fact that I still want what's best for you.
(TXT to Easton) Katherine : Yeah I probably could have put the check in the box but Bennie was right there.
(TXT to Katherine) Easton : ok. How are things with you?
(TXT to Easton) Katherine : I'm good. Considering employment options outside of Gray Harbor.
(TXT to Katherine) Easton : Yea? Still planning on repping Thorne, right?
(TXT to Easton) Katherine : Not sure how it would work out if I left my firm and went full corporate. He'd likely just keep me on retainer.
(TXT to Easton) Katherine : At least until the Casino deal is out of the way. Then who knows?
(TXT to Katherine) Easton : You getting offers? or just looking?
(TXT to Easton) Katherine : One offer in Seattle. It would be a lot of driving, so moving is an option but so is staying.
(TXT to Katherine) Easton : Don't flee town on my account.
(TXT to Easton) Katherine : People say stupid shit in the moment all the time. But the truth is, I'm always going want what's best for you. And I'm always going to want you to be happy.
(TXT to Easton) Katherine : Besides, it's not fleeing. It doesn't have to be if I don't want it to be. Just considering job options. If I wanted to flee, it would be back to New York.
(TXT to Katherine) Easton : Okay. They at least giving you the big bucks?
(TXT to Easton) Katherine : Easton/4544 It's a modest offer, less than what I'm making right now. I turned down the better offer to work in Gray Harbor last year. Not that it's interesting or anything.
(TXT to Easton) Katherine : I just wanted to make sure you were okay.
(TXT to Katherine) Easton : ? Why would you take it? Not that it's my business. And yea, I'm ok. I have people here.
(TXT to Easton) Katherine : Priorities change. Feelings change. You more than anyone should know that.
(TXT to Katherine) Easton : Yea, I do.
(TXT to Easton) Katherine : Besides, I haven't taken it yet, it was just a thought. You know me, I like having options. I like having answers.
(TXT to Katherine) Easton : Sure. I just would have expected you to make them pay out the nose if they wanted you. You going soft?
(TXT to Easton) Katherine : Maybe I am. I don't see it as a bad thing. I mean, it's the reason I can communicate with you like this.
(TXT to Easton) Katherine : I'm willing to give up some money for flexibility on time and a tweak in my schedule. The pay is still generous.
(TXT to Katherine) Easton : Being away from the craziness here is a plus too.
(TXT to Easton) Katherine : It can be. It's mostly just a compromise between staying and leaving.
(TXT to Katherine) Easton : What does Wayne think?
(TXT to Easton) Katherine : He thinks that it's great that I'm running back to New York, that's for sure. He said that if moving to Seattle was an option, he'd follow me there.
(TXT to Easton) Katherine : *not running back
(TXT to Katherine) Easton : I'm not trying to be a dick, but it would be safer there.
(TXT to Easton) Katherine : I know. And so far, I'm okay. I mean, I was a little shaken up before. But no major incidents since then. You still worried?
(TXT to Katherine) Easton : I'm worried about all non-combatants in a war zone.
(TXT to Easton) Katherine : I understand that. Maybe you could teach me a thing or two. Just in case.
(TXT to Katherine) Easton : To shoot? Sure.
(TXT to Katherine) Easton : There's a good boxing gym in town, one of the Kelly's runs it if you just want to learn to fight?
(TXT to Easton) Katherine : Smooth, Marshall. Nice aversion.
(TXT to Easton) Katherine : I'll look into the boxing gym, if it helps you feel better.
(TXT to Katherine) Easton : You asked me for help getting prepared. I thought that's what I offered?
(TXT to Easton) Katherine : I specifically asked if you were able to teach me something. I'm a lawyer. Wording is critical for me.
(TXT to Easton) Katherine : It's okay for you to say no to me, I'm not going to lose my shit at you.
(TXT to Katherine) Easton : I offered to teach you to shoot. It's a good skill to have. If you want to fight, there are better options. And yes, by better I'm including ones that don't involve us spending time alone together. I need to not fuck things up with Bennie, and that includes even looking like I might be.
(TXT to Easton) Katherine : I didn't want to presume the offer for shooting lessons is still on the table. For the same reason you're suggesting better options. That's why I asked again.
(TXT to Katherine) Easton : We can hit the range. That's fine. Anything else would be a mistake.
(TXT to Katherine) Easton : I'm not presuming anything. Just saying I don't think it's a good idea.
(TXT to Easton) Katherine : Your communication skills are improving. I'm impressed.
(TXT to Katherine) Easton : You can't see it but I'm flipping you off right now. Just in case you were worried I'd lost my more primitive communication methods.
(TXT to Easton) Katherine : I may or may not be rolling my eyes at you in return.
(TXT to Easton) Katherine : Honestly, I was just dipping my toes in the water again so to speak and I had a reason to reach out. It's like you said, we'll never be best friends. But I've realises that there's no reason to be hostile anymore.
(TXT to Katherine) Easton : Yea. I will try and remember that. Promise.
(TXT to Easton) Katherine : This is just as much an adjustment for me as it is for you. I need you to communicate boundaries with me. That's all I'm asking for from you.
(TXT to Katherine) Easton : I will try to communicate with a minimum of swearing and yelling.
(TXT to Easton) Katherine : And in return, I'll respect boundaries, and maybe not be so afraid of facing you in person.
(TXT to Katherine) Easton : Afraid of what?
(TXT to Easton) Katherine : Your reaction mostly.
(TXT to Easton) Katherine : [...]
(TXT to Easton) Katherine : It's not important. You're not the only one getting used to a new way to be.
(TXT to Katherine) Easton : Are you really trying to compare our situations? Because that makes me feel like yelling. A lot. And apparently you're "scared" of that so please, knock that shit off if you want to try and be friends.
(TXT to Easton) Katherine : No I'm not. I was just trying to say that I have things I need to change too. It's not all on you. I was wrong for putting it all on you all this time.
(TXT to Katherine) Easton : Ok
(TXT to Easton) Katherine : There's no need to be defensive. Anyway, I should let you go. Don't worry about the shooting lessons. You're off the hook.
(TXT to Katherine) Easton : That's probably for the best.
(TXT to Easton) Katherine : Goodnight, Easton.
(TXT to Katherine) Easton : Goodnight Katherine
