Lucas was brought it super early this morning, according to initial checkup he had no bruises, or cuts, or lacerations or other external wounds, but he did have a ruptured appendix and several broken ribs. Initial diagnosis was acute appendicitis, which apparently he... slept through? … and secondary injuries from falling out of his bunk when the organ ruptured. He has been in intensive care for the last few hours and is currently expected to eventually recover with proper care.

Erin works at the hospital now so that makes it easier to go in and out of the rooms. Her cousin had mentioned to her that Lucas was injured and another friend pf hers had said the same. So she comes into his room after checking his charts and has a seat for a moment at his bedside. She's currently off duty and just checking on her cousins best friend. That she loses focus for a moment and has a far away look in her eyes, pay her no mind..

Abby is working in the ER. She's not so much Intensive Care material. And yet, she did help when Lucas first came in, possibly when he was out of it, so while she's out and about doing her rounds she decides to poke her nose in for a quick check. She's got some paperwork tucked under one arm, that someone somewhere is probably waiting for, but it can't be anything too urgent! She's on duty, however, wearing her sky blue scrubs with little clouds and rainbows, and colorful nursing clogs. "Hi," she says after standing by the entrance, watching for a moment, addressing her soft greeting, barely above a whisper, to Erin.

Lucas is lying in the bed, looking pale and drained, his vitals tracked by machines, having finally stabilized and come out of danger areas. Then suddenly his coloring seems to get better and the readings begin to come up. His eyes flutter and he begins moving a little, his breathing evening out.

It's a somewhat slow process, the bruising lessening while the complexion improves from the pasty look to get more color. Erin notices that his breathing is improving and suddenly wears a slight smile before looking towards the entrance and Abby. "Hi," she greets softly. "It looks like the patient has improved some." Understatement for sure, but she doesn't announce healings.

Abby glances briefly at his chart, then glances briefly at the monitors, and her lips pinch into a tight thin line. "Hmm." She sets her hands down by her hips, draws a breath, then breaks into a warm bright smile. "Sure looks like it! I love a good statistically unlikely recovery, that's for sure. It beats the other kind of... statistical anomaly, so yay!" She pumps her fist, eyes darting from Erin, to Lucas, and back to the monitors.

Lucas's eye flutter open and he looks confused, "How...what...what am I doing here...." He glances at the IV, the backless gown he has somehow been put in, and the two ladies in the doorway.

Erin isn't quite at the doorway, but seated near the bedside. When Lucas wakes, she does get to her feet though, giving Abby a sort of covert look. "Katy was worried about you. She said she'd tried texting you but you didn't respond. So I told her that I would be able to come see how you are and let her know. Looks like you will make a full recovery." Another look to Abby with a lopsided smile that holds more than a touch of ruefulness. "Much better than that sort of statistic. I guess we can chalk up another victory for the good guys."

Abby turns her smile towards Lucas. "Well, you had a little situation. But it sure looks like you're doing great! Very good vitals. They'll probably keep you a while under observation, though..." she motions with her thumb back over her shoulder towards the intensive care unit with a small shrug. She glances down at her paperwork, and sneaks a small curious look in Erin's direction. "Yep, sounds good to me! I don't complain about these ones."

"What ...what time is it" He looks at the clock, "I... I over slept...I am late...Atli is supposed to be..." he starts to rise but falls back into the bed, not wholly recovered yet apparently.

"Me either. He must have a really strong will to live." Erin does keep standing but she moves nearer the door. "Certainly a good idea to be kept for further observation as a precautionary measure." Her brows arch. "Lucas, please get some sleep. We can come check on you later. I'll let Katy know you are improving and she can let Atli know also."

Abby offers Lucas a quiet, reassuring smile, voice pitched to a quiet, casual, calming tone. "You came in this morning with a ruptured appendix, and some other minor injuries, but that's all been taken care of, and you're stable and actually... you're doing really well, judging by these vitals, at least! Obviously your attending doctor still needs to look at you, but hopefully you won't be stuck around here super long and we can get rid of you and send you off home soon! And - there you go," she turns and gestures towards Erin with a smile. "Nothing to worry about."

"A… a ruptured appendix....weird." He shakes his head, "I... thought..." He shakes his head again, remembering the beauty pageant, "It must have been a dream"

"Apparently my cousin Katy and August were also injured.." Erin tells Lucas. She says nothing of the Dream though. A smile at the explanation Abby offers and gives a brief nod, as if to agree with everything she says. "Nothing to worry about. Just get better, Lucas. Everyone else I know of is already feeling better also."

"Funny things, dreams!" Abby smiles a little too tightly at that, head shaking as her hands go back to her hips. "You know, I once managed to injure myself with a bunch of raisins during a dream - well, I must've been sleepwalking. But you had a ruptured appendix and - according to what I'd heard, some broken ribs from falling off your bunk. Well, I wasn't personally present when they were poking around, but that's that your chart says. But you're doing great, so just get some rest, don't worry about it, let your body do the rest of the healing since it's doing a great job so far, right?" She looks to Erin for support on Lucas' body doing a great job of healing all on its own.

Erin gives Abby a smile of complete agreement and support. "Most definitely. You're doing a great job of healing now. I've got a date though, so I can't stay any longer. Those on duty will take care of you, Lucas. I'll probably see you tomorrow if you're still around." After going to the door, she smiles at Abby with a tiny, almost imperceptible shrug. "See you soon."

Lucas nods slowly, leaning back in his bed, weird that the others got hurt to, must have been coincidence. "I was support to give Atli a tour of the firestation a few hours ago, I hope she doesn't think I stood her up"

Abby waves it off, "I'm sure, if she called the firestation, someone's told her what happened. And if not, Erin'll make sure the information gets back to her." Then she adds, in a lower voice, leaning in, "I'm pretty sure she can't be mad at you over a ruptured appendix."

Lucas nods slowly, "Ruptured appendix....how ….how did I sleep through a ruptured appendix?"

"I have no idea," Abby confesses with a hint of a smile on her face, though a tiny worried crease sets on her brow. "But you did wake up - and fell off your bunk. So it must've been a pretty sharp wakeup, I wouldn't say you slept through it, exactly, right? You should probably try to sleep it off, though, the more you rest the sooner it heals."

He nods slowly, and sighs, "I guess sometimes the world tells you the slow down, and you have to listen. Its just... things were going so well"

"You'll be out and about in no time!" Abby offers confidently, and even gives Lucas a small, encouraging thumbs up. She does tilt her head, "Well, maybe you'll have to be on light duty for a while, but - that's just more time to show people around the firehouse and so on." Wink. "I'll go and let the ICU nurses know you're doing so much better, see if they can get your attending in here to look at you. Get lots of rest, and feel better!"
