It was another routine shift in the ER and the usual runs for the rescue squads. At least Devlin did not get cut this time and to Zara's surprise, he managed to slip out a little early to show up as Zara's shift ended. After a few minutes, pizza was decided on for a shared dinner (date may be?) and now, here they are coming into Pizza Kitchen with Devlin holding the door for Zara.

It's never an easy day in the E.R. and Zara is pleased to see Devlin show up out of the blue. A kiss to his cheek in greeting before she quickly changes out of her uniform and into something decidedly casual. Just as well they're going for pizza.

A nod of thanks to his gallantry at holding open the door. "Probably not the kind of place we need to book in advance" she laughs, but just in case he has, she will wait for him before heading deeper into the restaurant.

"Nope.. just walk up and order. Slice or if your bold by the pie depending on the size," Devlin says as he comes up next to you. "I tend to get one of their personal pies and go PHD on it. No fish or fruit for me though. They have good food here, though.." He hmms, "Not a huge fan of some of their pasta.. but the rest always good." He walks with you to near the register, commenting to the person taking orders, "We're still finding our brains.. will take a moment." easy to pick up on a bit of easy humor in his tone.

"You do know that if I'm seen in a place like this, I'll be kicked out of the 'Doctors for Healthy Eating Society'" Zara asides quietly with a giggle, gently nudging you as she does so. She looks over the menu. "So I better not ask for pineapple. I wouldn't want you to run away in terror" she smirks before a curious look. "PHD?" An apologetic look to the person at the register. "Sorry, I think my brain has hidden itself very well. We'll just be a moment."

Devlin chuckles a little, "PHD, a little Midwestern short hand I picked up on. Short in this case for Piled Higher and Deeper." He grins, "We all need to enjoy so called bad foods. Just in moderation is all. And if the society won't buy that, you can always blame me." He slips an arm around your waist with a hint of a snug there. "If you like pineapple, go for it. Just not my style is all."

"In that case, I'll have a Hawaiian pizza - ham, cheese, and pineapple. And I'll have a whole one since I am starving. Hey, if you're going to behave badly, go all the way. Right?" Zara gives her order...and throws in a thickshake request too. "I am going to need to jog twice tomorrow morning to make up for this." Though her tone suggests it will be worth it.

"Have a quiet day at work?" There is no objection to the arm around her waist. She is happy to lean into it.

Devlin leans in a little himself, "Personal size, my usual.. and load her up. I'll have a Sam Adams to go with it." He hmms, "It was quiet for Gray Harbor, saving more than a few from their personal versions of stupidity." He takes a moment to start settling the bill as he asks you with a little tease in the tone, "Behaving or having something other than water to drink?"

He grins a bit, "Running.. huh? I still do that at times. Besides we both have jobs that demand a lot from us. I swear it should count for exercise in someone's world."

"I try not to get in the habit of wine straight after work. That way leads alcoholism" Zara smirks before shrugging. "I like thickshakes. It's one of my vices. Sue me" she winks before helping to find a table for them both, her own arm around your waist now.

"I thought you'd be all about the exercise. Ex-military and all." A laugh about stress being counted as exercise. "I think I'd rather jog. Hey, why don't we go camping soon? Head out into the woods for some alone-time. Away from from the madness for a couple of days...and nights. Especially the nights."

Devlin helps you take a seat, "Never thought about a shake and pizza going together." He pauses for a moment before he goes on, "Still in the reserves. Things get nasty and I could get deployed again. Though the unit is rebuilding, that could be a few years before they are ready." He settles not across from you, but at a seat to your side to share a corner. "Camping sounds nice. Dear season is just around the corner too. Just about time, almost out of good venison for the grill and less than 3 pounds of jerky. Got 3 tags this year." He grins, "Two here.. and one up at Fort Lewis."

"At least you eat what you hunt. Hey, you can have a thickshake with anything. Even a beer" Zara replies before screwing up her face. "Okay, maybe not a beer. We could make it a hunting slash camping trip if you like."

A nod about Devlin being whisked off back into a warzone. "Something might come up that needs my assistance too. You never know, I could end up at a hospital in the same war?" A faint smile at that, though it is something she hopes doesn't happen. "But let's talk about something more fun. Which is pretty much anything" she laughs.

Devlin says, "Could do that.. " He smiles a bit. "lets see how that works for our schedules. Hopefully the over time issues I have been dealing with clear up. Got some new trainees to spin up and see how they handle things. Gray Harbor tends to be rough on newbies." He reaches to squeeze your hand, "Ok.. pleasant. Like breakfast at your place?" he teases slightly. "I am still looking for a six string. The last one" he takes a breath, "was given to me by my sister. It was destroyed when an RPG hit the truck. "Been borrowing a friend's guitar to practice on."

Zara returns the squeeze to her hand. "Sure, we could have breakfast at my place. As long as you stay the night first" she teases with a wink. "You mentioned what happened to the last guitar. That sucks. I'd still love to hear you play though, so make sure you get one soon. You want an acoustic, or is there an electric one you would prefer?"

"I guess I should check my schedule too. Rostered on most days of the week but that's by my choice. Never really had a reason to have some days off. Not for a while."

Devlin nods, "Schedules can be a pain. I did put in for the Paramedic in Charge position. If that goes through, I get a bit more choice in a lot of matters. As to a guitar, an Acoustic is what I am looking for. Never really played an electric much let alone owned one. May be later." He hmms as the food is brought over, "Smells good. I do confess.. those are interesting evenings that I look forward too." He then winks, "May have to arrange breakfast at my place here and there."

"Isn't it great that the higher up you go, the more likely you can have time off." The food does indeed smell good. "Acoustic. Got it. Any particular kind? You can tell I know nothing about guitars." Zata manages to get a bite into her pizza as her phone goes off. "You're kidding me" she grumbles before checking it. "I just got off shift!" Though yelling at the phone does not make the emergency go away. "I'm sorry, Dev, gotta go." She takes out her apartment keys and hands them over. "Why don't you take our meal to my place and I'll join you as soon as I can." A quick kiss to his lips. "I'll make it up to you."

Devlin nods after the kiss and gets the keys, "I will. Take good care of whom ever your being called for. That is the important thing. I'll be here for a bit to finish my beer."

Devlin is at a table with two meals being set up for take home. Both barely touched. Currently he is sipping on his beer and munching on a few garlic strips. For those that caught it, a few moments ago the lady he was with had to bolt after getting a message. Devlin has accepted her taking off with good grace.

Probably around the time that Zara is excusing herself is when Grace and Kim comes in. The former humming some to herself. The words from Zara has her glancing that way. Offering a small smile if either of them look her way. Other than that letting Kim lead them. Currently dressed relaxed, in a jacket and jeans.

Kim hand in hand with Grace. Offers her free one in greeting to them. Unlike her casual finance she is dressed up in her gothic loitia finest. Black full dress with lots of frills on the dress...oh so many frills. She does notice that Zara is leaving. She tugs Grace towards Devlin's table. "Hey there Dev. Good to see you again! How have you been...since...eh that one thing?"

Devlin smiles to the pair of you, "I am doing a lot of better, thank you for asking Kim. How are you doing Grace?" He sips his beer, "Sadly seems my date had to dash.. " he shrugs but there is a smile in his eyes, "I thought I had demands on my times.. Gray Harbor loves to keep Doctors busy it appears."

Kim raises a eyebrow to Devlin. "Your date? Weren't you seeing some other than the doctor? Sorry I'm probably just having a hard time remembering the name of the your girlfriend." she gives a shrug "Yeah GH seems to have a hard time on a lot of things. Do you mind if we sit down? So we can catch up. I'm very interested in hearing how things are going for you."

Devlin says, "Have a seat," he invites, "Morgan, she took a position with the Coast Guard. They sent her way south of here." He sighs, "And.. distance killed things." He sips at his beer. "I'm currently seeing a Doctor from the ER.. kind of nice seeing her when I ride in with a patient." he smiles a bit. "I hope that things work out. So far.. its been good."

Kim takes a seat and tugs Grace down beside her. "Right, right...Morgan. Well good for her. So...are you two eh?" she bites her lip for a moment. "You know like poly? I mean maybe I'm misreading things and I'm sorry if I am." she begins. "Oh...oh I had a encounter with that doctor. She is very nice. So congrats. Eh...I really let my mouth run on don't I?" she shakes her head. Before offering a hug to Devlin "Whoever completes you or is there for you. I mean I couldn't wish anything else for my BFF's cousin could I?"

Devlin hugs back, "Not poly.. just moved on after several months is all. If nothing else.. this is good for me. Zara has similar interests to mine. Plus, I can talk shop with someone that understands and appreciates my creativity at medical problem solving." He sips his beer again, "I have had a lot of over time, we are short staffed but may be getting a couple of new guys to break in. We do need them."

Kim lips go into a O shape. "Ah alright. I'm glad it is good for you. I mean that you and Zara are a good fit. It is good you can find someone to talk out things with...Eh I'm not trying to be...I want to say..." she pauses as she collects herself. "I mean the first time I meet her...is it also because of the glowly thing?" she really doesn't know anyway else to put it. Kim looking at his beer and gesturing for the waitstaff to bring her one as well. "Oh you got new staff in? That's great. I really wish I could be more helpful in local crisis. I am trying to be and if you ever need a server hacked...well I am there."

Devlin smiles a bit, "Well, there is a politician that I would take some enjoyment at a few of his political secrets getting to the press would be fun to watch from up here. But seriously, no need there yet. How have things been for you?"

Kim tilts her head "A politician. I mean unless it's a orange person I would post all of their secrets on the dark web...well even then it wouldn't matter." she shakes her head "Oh things for me? Going very well." she says as she squeezes Grace's hand. "My Tsuma and I are doing very well. I am also getting out more. I mean you know my last encounter with the odd...and I was almost eh...well I want to do the right thing. To defend life...but the voices..." she trails off.

Devlin nods as the boxed up food is brought over to him. "Well, I need to get some sleep. Doesn't look like Zara is escaping soon." He offers a hug, "Just glad you are doing ok. I will have to catch up with you later."
