Through thick and thin, mostly thin, and now on a new adventure in a strange place (if only they knew how strange).
Newest of the new guys in town. Former military. Definitely been burned in the past. Decent company on a ride-along.
Fellow new guy on the force. Paperwork buddy.
- New in town. Carter and his sister Claire just moved into their dad's old place with the fun task of cleaning it up.
- Rookie. He has only just completed his field training after graduating from the Academy, and is new to the force, having come from SFPD in California.
- Swimming/Baseball. He likes sports and was a pretty strong swimmer and not a bad baseball player.
- Foster kid. Grew up in the foster system, and was never formally adopted.
Carter doesn't know a whole lot about his parentage. He and his sister Claire were born in San Francisco, CA and were put up for adoption when they were very young. He has a few vague memories of his mother as a woman with a sad smile. He and Claire were raised in foster homes for most of their lives, though fortunately were never separated. Eventually, they stayed with a long-term foster family that they stayed with through high school. Unfortunately, once out of the foster system, they were on their own with very little to get by on. Some financial assistance allowed Carter to go to community college for an Associates in Criminal Justice, and then he went to the Police Academy. Recently graduated and having completed his field training, he is a green rookie, just starting out.
Carter was always pretty good in school, getting decent grades, and he got along alright with other kids. He had a handful of friends, but never really made lasting or close relationships with them, since he always lived on that edge of waiting for the other shoe to drop, of having to be prepared to give up where he lived and everything he knew to start over again. It kept him from really making the sort of lasting bonds that others might make during their college years. He did play a number of sports, though, through high school and afterward. He was a strong swimmer, but also played baseball.
He and Claire tried to do the best they could, but living in San Francisco was expensive, and they were struggling. Without family or much of a support system, it was hard for the two of them. Then, they received a letter from a lawyer informing them that their birth father had passed away some time ago and that it had taken a while for the lawyers to track them down. Their father's estate had been left in their name with a modest inheritance. It wasn't much of an estate -- an old house that had been abandoned for years filled with who knows what, and various other assorted odds and ends, and a bit of money that they could at least do more with in Gray Harbor than they could in San Francisco. The only stipulation to the will was that they had to move to Gray Harbor and occupy the house.
While Carter does Glimmer, he knows nothing about it as it has been latent up until his arrival in Gray Harbor. He is only just now starting to sense that there is something very strange going on in this town that he's moved into, and that he has some strange abilities of his own, which he will soon discover.
At 6'1", Carter has an athletic swimmer's build, with fair skin and defined musculature. He appears to be in his early twenties. Dark eyes are expressive at times, and guarded at others, concealing his emotions when necessary. His hair is dark as well, though sometimes highlighted with golden brown during the summer months. When on duty, he wears the uniform of the Gray Harbor Police Department, but when off-duty, he tends toward jeans and t-shirts or crew-neck shirts and layers when a chill sets in.
