Felicity's relationship with her parents is strained, to be honest. Her father is hyper-focused on his political career, and it was in deference to his career that she was persuaded not to pursue her faith to the extent she would have liked. At the end of the day, it was the right decision - she loves teaching music - but there's always going to be a touch of resentment there.
First-born child of Clyde and Susan Addington (nee Johnson), Felicity came into the world just when her parents were starting to get their feet under themselves financially. Her father was charming and intelligent, and he'd grown up in Gray Harbor, returning to town after obtaining a law degree to set himself up as a respected local lawyer. Two siblings would follow Felicity, and all three would grow up comfortably in this strange town. It wasn't until Felicity herself was already a teenager that two things happened.
First, Margaret Addington - the family matriarch - began to take an interest in the doings of Clyde and his family. It was obvious that Felicity's father was about to enter local politics in a big way, having hopped from the school board to the City Council, and Aunt Margaret - who had, until that time, barely been of note to this particular branch of the family - reached out to bridge the divide.
Second, Felicity felt something different about herself. It manifested in a small way, just a little jolt out of the ordinary. It wasn't a big thing, but she had been practicing piano - as she was obliged to do by her very socially-conscious mother - and she felt someone looking at her. Some*thing* looking at her. Chasing it with the corner of her eyes, leaving the piano behind, then-thirteen-year-old Felicity followed it out into the yard, and from thence down the street. She wound up disappearing for two days, and her parents were panicked. The story she told when she returned was... confused. She said she had gone out to Firefly Forest, fallen into an old basement-room at the abandoned sawmill, and gotten stuck there for two days. But search-and-rescue had searched all over that forest, and that child was definitely not out there. Still, when they went back to verify her story, all the evidence supported this claim.
In Felicity's mind, what happened was equally confused. She followed... whatever it was. It lured her, lead her, had her ride her bike across town, to Firefly Forest. There, she knows she heard the sweetest music she'd ever known, something like the music of God, something that lifted her soul. Time stopped having meaning in that music, and she sat down in a sunny glade that she'd never seen before - and she'd been all over this town in her childhood - to listen to the hymns of her own soul. It was only a few hours, she thought, only a little while, time enough yet to return home and her parents would never have to worry.
Over the next few years, Felicity would experience these moments of rapture intermittently. She learned to be more cautious, to listen without following. When she went off to college, she had every intention of becoming a nun - to listen to the voice of God forever. But, away from Gray Harbor, the music was dim, almost non-existent for months and months at a time, and she ached for it. Her parents were aggravated at the talk of nunnery - it wasn't politically expedient to have a daughter that was some sort of religious mystic - and, between the lack of music and their leaning on her, she agreed to study music and education.
And that's how Felicity wound up the music teacher at Teddy S. Addington High School. At least here, she still hears the music.
Blonde-haired and green-eyed, taller than average at 5'8", Felicity's attractive even if she doesn't seem to go to great lengths to accentuate her appearance. That's not to say she's mousy or even timid about her appearance, just that she tends to dress modestly, styles her hair nicely but not ostentatiously, and prefers understated make-up rather than flashy cosmetics. She has a warm, pleasant smile that brightens her pale green eyes, puts dimples in cheeks that are a little plump otherwise, framed by shoulder-length, pale blonde hair that she often sweeps back into a tidy bun or braid. By no means is Felicity a chubby woman, but there's an overall softness to her physique, curvy rather than slender.
