These last few days, Jonathan's been taking some walks, trying to think about a few things. And so today's walk has taken him over to the Boardwalk and the beach, just having made his way up from the beach, looking around a little thoughtfully. There's a smile on his face as he walks, and he looks rather relaxed.
After a lunch meeting with a client, Katy joins Jonathan on one of his walks. The Boardwalk was always their place, and she knew that's where he loves to go for runs and walks, not to mention the fact that the place holds so many memories, both beautiful and heartbreaking.
"Hey, babe," she says when she finally catches up with him, "What's going on?"
Jonathan smiles as he sees Katy catching up with him. "Hey," he offers, with another smile offered to her. "Sorry I've been heading off for those walks more often these last few days," he offers to her, with a smile.
"There's no need to be sorry, I know they help you," Katy says with a gentle tone of voice, "You're free to do what you want with your time. Is there anything bothering you?"
Jonathan smiles a bit. "Not really bothering me, but the conversation after you came home from that party made me think about some things."
"Anything you want to share?" Katy says as she links her hand to his and they continue walking.
"It made me think about if it's true, that we'd always be looking for that perfect moment that never comes. I was also a bit worried. What if doing something like that would change things for bad, or something like that. Which I don't believe it will, but I had to be sure," he offers to her.
"Wait, what kind of bad thing do you think would happen?" Katy asks quietly, slightly confused. "Are you talking about...the gifts, the Dreams, something else?"
Jonathan shakes his head a bit, letting out a momentary breath. "No, I was not thalking about those things, just the most important part of this, you and me." He goes silent again as he smiles to her. "I've never been as good as you at planning things..."
"I know..." Katy says quietly, watching Jonathan with keen interest as they continued their walk. And then she realises where they are along the Boardwalk, the spot where they'd first met near Sweet Retreat. A smile creeps along her lips.
"Tell me, do you still have that dress somewhere?" Jonathan asks, after a few brief moments as he sees where they are. It's said almost as an afterthought, before he smiles a little. "So, the hotel in Seattle when you used my last name..." he begins, a bit slowly.
"Yeah, I have a whole section in our giant closet full of dresses. You can pick which ever one you want me to wear," Katy points out, then he mentions Seattle and his birthday trip. "Yeah...what about that?" she asks quietly.
Jonathan smiles, "When you said you wanted to try it out." He pauses for a few moemnts longer, before he continues, "Was that because you would want the name in the future, hmmm?" Watching her rather carefully for the moment, he adds, "Because if so, I think that would be quite nice..." That part is offered rather quietly, as he keeps his eyes on her.
"I'm glad you think so too...It's something I've thought about on and off for a couple of years now, since your concussion," Katy explains, "We spent years as friends while you chased your dreams...but then the concussion changed everything and it made me think about how quickly everything can change. I guess I was just waiting to see if you were thinking about it too..."
"I never stopped thinking about it," Jonathan replies quietly. "Even when I was out there chasing the dream, I hoped that one day we would find each other again." There's a brief pause, as he looks out to the sea, then back to where they're standing not far from Sweet Retreat. "A part of me wishes it would have happened far less painfully, though." It's said with a grin, and quite lightly, even if he's serious too.
Felicity walks along the boardwalk with a small mix breed dog of somesort. It yapps and trots on the end of its leash happily as the woman following it looks into the shops quietly
"And here we are," Katy says with a smile, "We always come back around to this place, don't we?" The blonde looks around with a smile on her face.
Jonathan smiles, nodding a bit. "Always back to this place, and each other," he replies. Looking around, he notices Fellicity and the dog, and he offers them both a nod and a smile.
Katy waves at Felicity as she approaches, giving the dog some pets. "Hey, Felicity! It's been a while! How are things at the high school?" she asks with a smile.
The small dog looks like a fluffy little cotton ball, and it licks Katy as it wanders over for its pets "Totoro quit bothering Katy" she tells it before rolling her dog, "Hey Kat, yah was not sure I wanted to come back.." she intones quietly. "Did I interrupt you?" she eyes Jonathan
Jonathan smiles. "Hello," he offers, before he looks to the dog. "Quite a nice dog you have," he offers, before he looks between Katy and Felicity, offering them both a smile as he lets Katy handle the introductions.
"This is Felicity, she's the Music Teacher at the high school now...she's been gone a while too, but now she's back. She's one of the few people I would actually say hi to while in town. You know how most Addingtons are, Jon." She smiles. "Felicity, this is my boyfriend, Jonathan Wallgren."
Most Addingtons, mmm Felicity looks off into the distance a moment and seems just to space out a bit before her dog moves to lick at her ankles.. she cuddles the fluffy little thing and she smiles a bit "boyfriend? well that is good, we all need what we can find here." she says a little quietly.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Felicity," Jonathan offers with a smile, before he looks to the dog again for a few moments, before he smiles. "Life has truly been far better here after Katy moved here," he offers.
"Yeah, it's a new thing, I packed everything up after Christmas and moved here. I figured, that even despite everything weird about this place, there was at least one thing worth sticking around for." Katy smiles. "What made you come back, Felicity?"
Felicity nibbles on her lips "you cant hear the music away from this city." she tells Kat, whatever that might mean. But then she maybe crazy it was in the family name afterall. She nods her head to her cousin and she pauses, "I should try and find myself a intimate friend." she grins
"I lucked out, Felicity. I just happened to be at the right place at the right time." Katy glances over her shoulder at the Sweet Retreat before she says, "You know what though? You should totally come over to the apartment sometime. Jon's great in the kitchen, and we can talk, hang out. Whatever."
Jonathan smiles as he listens. "And, interestingly enough, that right place was more or less here," he offers. At Katy's suggestion, he nods with a smile. "Always willing to come up with a good meal for a guest," he offers.
Felicity gathers her smalldog up and she smiles then to her cousin, though she offers a small shrug "maybe sure, I mean if I wont be a third wheel, but, Totoro and me we should continue our walk, will I see you later?
Felicity gathers her smalldog up and she smiles then to her cousin, though she offers a small shrug "maybe sure, I mean if I wont be a third wheel, but, Totoro and me we should continue our walk, will I see you later?"
"No not at all, we've been trying to put ourselves out there a little more and I know you picked up the music teacher gig not too long ago, we should definitely catch up." Katy assured Felicity. "Or we can go out someplace. It's up to you."
Jonathan smiles, nodding as he listens. "It's always good for the two of you to catch up, and it's always nice for me to meet people I don't know that well from before as well." Another smile is offered, "I'm sure we will all see each other later. Enjoy your walk," he offers.
Felicity gives a little nod of her head to Kat before she smiles and she moves along the road "I would like that." she says as she continues on her way
"So where were we?" Katy asks as she turns back to Jonathan after Felicity's departure.
Jonathan hmmms a little as he hears that. "Let's see... We were talking about how we always seem to come back to this place? Oh, and names..."
"So tell me, what's on your mind?" Katy prompts him, waiting for him to speak.
"On my mind? Now that can be a scary question," Jonathan replies with a grin, before he lets out a bit of a breath. "I've not really managed to do any sort of planning for something like this, but after I thought a little about it, I realized there'll be no perfect time for things..."
Katy looks expectantly at Jonathan, still holding his hand, but doesn't say a word, waiting for him to continue.
Jonathan smiles. "I'm probably just rambling on here, aren't I?" There's a few brief moments of pause as he continues on. "I know we've both been thinking about it, and since we both know how fast life can change, especially in this place with all that happens here." He lets out a bit of a breath as he watches her. "I've already told you I want to be by your side forever, and while I'm very happy with how we are today, showing the world that sounds like a good thing." Another breath, deeper now, and he gets out those last words. "Would you want... to marry me?" Those last words are perhaps spoken a bit more rushed, like he was worried if he didn't rush them, he'd draw them out forever.
After placing a sweet, loving kiss on his lips, Katy smiles and says, "Of course. There's no one else for me but you. I would like to spend the rest of my life being with you, supporting you, being your partner."
While he had a feeling what her answer was going to be, he was still nervous, in case she actually would say something else. But that kiss on his lips and the answer makes that nervousness fade as Jonathan smiles. "And I want to be the same for you, for the rest of my life," he says, words kept rather quietly.
The sound of a volkswagon engine can be somewhat distinct. This one is softer, but still notable, as it pulls around into a parking spot by the sweets shop. It's a VW camper van that has been painted all over like a space nebula. It pulls in and the lights flick off. The internal lights flick on and Kailey can be seen inside, peering forward to look out at the boardwalk, and then up at the sweets shop. She makes a face and hops out of the van, bundled in a windbreaker and multicolor crotched slouch hat. "Eeeesh, it's freezing," She grumbles as she burrows deep into the jacket, hands tucking into pockets. She begins to walk towards the sweets shop, not exactly looking where she is going. It's night. People aren't here at...oh look people. Kailey stops a few feet away awkwardly. They seem to be having a moment. She tries to quietly slip past on her way to the door of the ice cream parlor.
"Hey, you wanna go into Sweet Retreat?" Katy suggests with a grin, "I know it's still too cold for ice cream but maybe we can still have something delicious. Milkshakes? I don't know."
Jonathan is unable to hold back a grin as he hears Katy's suggestion. "Seems like it's the right place to go at a moment like this, doesn't it?" he offers, with a smile. He offers a nod to Kailey as well, rather politely, as he turns towards the Sweet Retreat.
Kailey smiles at the two and bobs her head. And being the nosey person she is, and hearing Katy's comment, she chimes, "They've got hot chocolate and hand made marshmallows. And chocolate covered marshmallows. And other hot foods too. You better believe I'm going for cocoa and mallows." Her smile breaks into a toothy grin and she holds the door open for the two of them.
"That sounds lovely." Katy is grinning from ear to ear as she and Jonathan walk towards Sweet Retreat. She smiles at Kailey and adds, "I'm Katy by the way, and this is Jonathan. Counter okay for you guys?"
"That sounds quite wonderful," Jonathan replies, his own grin rather wide as well. "Thank you," he offers to Kailey as she holds the door open, before he nods at Katy's words. "The counter's good."
"Kailey," Says the girl with the faded purple and pink hair. It's long enough her two colorful braids peak out from the cap. And she removes it when they all step inside. "Nice to meet you both. Counter's fine by me," She lets the door close behind her once the other two are inside. The waitress seems to recognize her and looks surprised. "Yeah, yeah, he knows," She tells the woman with a waving of her hand, to fend off any comment. "Hot cocoa with home marshmallows, whipped cream and sprinkles. Mozzy sticks with ranch and a grilled cheese with extra cheddar," She lists the things off knowingly and cheerfully.
"You guys together?" Asks the waitress, glancing at Jonathan and Katy with a smile.
"Oh, no, I'm on my own!" Kailey replies quickly.
"I mean, if you'd like some company, you can hang out with us, Kailey," Katy offers with a smile, "I mean, I don't mind." She gives Jonathan a smile.
"It's nice to meet you, Kailey," Jonathan offers, before he smiles as he listens to the interaction. "I don't mind either, company's always nice," he offers as well.
"What would you dears like?" The Waitress asks of Jonathan and Katy.
Meanwhile Kailey gives a lopsided smile. "Thanks. You guys look like you're on a date though.?" She sounds uncertain.
Katy says, "I'd like a hot chocolate," Katy orders with a smile before she explains to Kailey, "We were out for a walk. We live nearby and we love just hanging out at the Boardwalk. It's where we first met almost 12 years ago. Right outside this place actually.""
Jonathan smiles, nodding a bit. "Hot chocolate sounds good," he agrees, before he nods a bit at Katy's explanation. "So this has become a special place to us," he adds.
"It is a pretty special place," Kailey agrees with a grin and nod. The waitress nods and moves off to take care of orders. "If only it weren't so cold in winter. I have never enjoyed the cold too much. I try to spend my winters down south, but this year..." She shrugs and pulls out a pen, beginning to draw on her napkin.
"I just moved into town in January. Thought it was time to settle down," Katy explains, "It just feels right." She smiles. "It's a good thing I'm an indoor sort of creature. I don't really have to do much in the cold if I don't want to."
"The cold isn't so bad," Jonathan comments a bit lightly. "I've been in far colder places." It's offered with a smile, before he adds, "I always loved the winter, though."
Kailey chuckles a bit at Jonathan defending Winter. "Well it is lovely. The cold just cuts right through me," She says cheerfully. "I -did- go up to Northern BC a couple years ago to see the northern lights. That was pretty trippy and super cold. But worth it. Have either of you ever seen them? Magic!"
"Before I moved here, I usually only visit Gray Harbor during the summers and for a month during the holiday season, I was usually gone by the second week of January so the fact that I've stayed through the winter's been kind of crazy. But I guess it's not the place that makes a home...it's the people." She smiles at Jonathan.
Jonathan smiles, nodding at the words about the northern lights. "I went to college in Alaska, so I know how great the northern lights can be," he replies, before he grins at Katy's words about it being the people making a home. "Quite true," he replies.
Kailey grins with glee as her hot cocoa comes. "Ohhh, thanks," She says and leans in to lick the top of the whipped cream off. That is when he phone rings and she makes a face. "I'll be back," She chimes, and heads towards the back and the bathrooms. Answering the phone with a cheerful, "Hi doc!"
