The instructions in this guide will only work for people that have the builder power. This is just a way for staff/builders to quickly see how to make a home for new characters.

Neighborhoods

Homes should be located in one of the pre-existing neighborhoods. The list is below.

Once you know which neighborhood, you can use jump Neighborhood Name, then walk to the residential area (usually called Along <Street Name>) to get to the room where you want to build the house.

Building a Room

The number of the house is pretty much arbitrary. Just keep in mind that even-numbered and odd-numbered houses are on different sides of the street. Other than that... don't sweat the details. Yes, it's probably not normal that all the houses have such easy numbers (e.g., "4 Bayside Road" is a little weird, since most addresses on the west coast are longer, but we're not going to obsess over it).

Basically, just pick a number in the general range of those already existing, and roll with it. Then type: build Character's House=#,O

For example: build Bob's House=11,O - This would create a room named "Bob's House" with the exit / address number "11" going into the house and the exit "O" (out) to get out of it.

If you're building an apartment, just change it to "Character's Apartment," and remember that apartment numbers usually start with the floor number (e.g., 501 is going to be on the 5th floor, 110 is the 1st floor, etc.). For a trailer, just use "Character's Trailer."

Assigning Ownership

While you're in the room, type owner Character (or owner Character1 Character2 Character99 for multiple owners). This will give the person the ability to change the description.

Close the Job

When you close the job, be sure to include a reply to the person, and let them know the name of their new house, so they can jump there and set their home.

Update the Wiki

Edit the character's page on the wiki to update their tags. Navigate to their profile at https://gray-harbor.com/char/<name> and click the Edit button. On the front page, there's a box that says "Tags." Add the new neighborhood tag with commas as separators (e.g., ths-1999,addington,res-bayside).

The list of tags:

  • res-bayside (Also for people with houseboats)
  • res-baysideapt (For the Bayside Apartments)
  • res-elm
  • res-huckleberry
  • res-oak
  • res-spruce
  • res-maple
  • res-sycamore
  • res-broadleafapt (For the Broadleaf Apartments)
  • res-livenaframes (For the Liven A-Frame Cabins)

Thank you!
