It's Friday and Spring is settled in nicely so far. But it's a bit chilly. Penny, or Miss Faust has been in already for awhile, but she's in search of a coffee refill. That means she has to leave the basement lab to come upstairs. She's dressed in one of her work dresses, modestly tailored and the color of evergreens. She's wearing black flats instead of heels. She gives a smile to one of the guys at the desk, "Anything come in while I've been downstairs, Harry?" she asks him.
Standing behind the counter listening to the calls as they come in, Michael has his lunch bag at hand and is idly sipping at a mug of coffee. He answers on behalf of Harry, since the man is temporarily distracted and doesn't immediately answer, "Nothing new," not that he was immediately familiar with when she'd come in, but there hasn't been anything new in the past hour. In his uniform, he is immediately recognizable for a local officer, one of the handful.
Penny's brown eyes go from Harry to Michael and there's a smile to him, "Thanks for that update." she tells him. It's a genuine thing, nothing to sarcastic. "So are you just coming on shift or getting towards the middle? I've been stuck down in the basement with all the bodies we got in this week." she frowns at that. She slides a wrapped cookie over to Harry and then she looks to Michael, "Would you like one? I got extra and I usually bring Harry one." she tells him.
By way of answering for future reference, Michael answers, "I work three to midnight," and nods at her 'thanks' with an equal sort of sincerity. Hearing about the bodies, he nods his head solemnly and shakes his head at her offer of the cookie. Given his build, he probably eats a very specific set of foods with little room for excess sweets. Or maybe he just doesn't like cookies. "I was just coming in for lunch, mostly, and I still haven't had the heart to eat in the cruiser," he mentions.
Penny gives a nod of her head, "Three to midnight, got it." she states with a bit of a smile. The refusal of the cookie isn't thought on too much. Some cops kept themselves in great shape. "I'll take it." Harry chuckles as he takes the other cookie. "Harry will eat all the excess sweets you don't want." she chuckles. "Well, the cruiser is like a tiny temple for some cops, so getting crumbs and things in it I'm guessing is close to blasphemy." she states. "I'm Penny, by the way." she offers in greeting.
"Penny Faust, the coroner, yes ma'am," Michael confirms and offers her a hand to shake. "I'm Michael O'Malley," he returns and standing back, goes back to sipping at his coffee, walking towards the coffee maker to give himself a refill. That bag of lunch still hanging in his hand as he walks. "Not that you need an excuse, but what brings you up from the basement?" he asks as he stands there by the coffee maker, finally starting to sort through his lunch bag with one free hand.
Penny gives a smile and takes his hand, giving it a fairly decent shake, "It's nice to meet you, Officer O'Malley." she tells him as she lets his hand go. "And I was just coming up from the basement for a coffee refill. I need to replace the maker downstairs at some point and the stairs are extra exercise." she muses. "So that's it really. Coffee and fresh air." she admits.
"Gotta get those steps," Michael says and grabs up the pot again to fill a cup for her. In the process of doing so he gets a call on the radio and answers promptly. "I've got to go to that, it was nice meeting you in person, Doctor," he says and tosses his coffee mug in the sink in passing and heads out through the doors.
