Lyric knew that she was expecting company tonight so after the shot of tequila and half the tacos, she rushes home with the other two tacos in a wrapper. It's on foot though that she arrives and glances around to see if Cole had arrived yet, climbing up the stairs of the white and dark blue mobile home with the potted plants and couple of flamingos.
Cole is right on time for when they agreed to meet up, which means that he turns up just a minute or two after Lyric, checking the address to make sure that he has the right lot before walking up and knocking on the trailer door. He's dressed in a pair of comfortable jeans and a light grey t-shirt with a windbreaker on over it. He hangs out outside, and waits for her to open the door.
At least it gave Lyric the opportunity to finish off the dollar tacos and wash her hands. When she hears the knock she walks over to open the door with a smile, fully expecting Cole to be there. She's not disappointed! Opening it further, she steps back, "PLease come on it." It's not cluttered or new, but it is clean. Letting go of the door, he can leave it open or close it, both works. "I'm glad to see you."
Cole is just as expected, there on the doorstep. When she opens up the door, he comes inside and takes a look around, grinning at that amazingly blue shag carpet. "Whoah, how many cookie monsters got skinned for that carpet?" He laughs a bit though, not seeming to mind it, certainly. "Yeah, nice to see you, too. How are you doing?" he asks as he takes a look around the place. It's clean, and that's the important thing. He doesn't seem to mind the threadbare or even the garish color. There are no bugs, and it's clean.
"Cookie monsters. That's funny!" It hadn't occurred to Lyric to put the two together as yet. She does now. Once he comes inside, she grins, "I am doing good, just had some tacos for dinner from down the road. I can show you the bedroom and the bathroom. You can see my room too." Of course the kitchen is blaringly obvious there next to the living room. "And out the back door is a small deck too, with a grill. If you like grilling out or anything. I dunno how to use it." A motion towards the hallway, she seems like she really wants to sell the place to him so he'd stay as she gives him a hopeful look. "Your room is first. Then the bathroom."
"Yeah, I'm not much of a cook," Cole admits with a little grin. "I could probably figure out the grill with a youtube video or two, though." He follows her down the hall to take a look into the first bedroom with its blow up mattress and closet. He gives it a nod, and then takes a look into the bathroom, glancing around briefly. Clean. Everything is clean, that that seems to be his primary concern. "It's a nice little place. I mean, clearly well worn, but in good shape."
"My room is here," Lyric shows him, just so he has a complete lay of the land and she points to a corner of the closet. "That's the breaker box, just in case the power ever goes off or something." A nod is given about the grill. "I don't even know if the grill works so we don't have to mess with it. I can make simple breakfast things and of course sandwiches and spaghetti. And the grocery store has a great deli." Stepping back out she leads the way back to the living room. "Does it look like you'd like to live here?"
Cole takes a look at the bedroom and makes a note of where the breaker box is. That's a good thing to know, and then he nods, following her back toward the living room. He slides his hands into his pockets and says, "It's definitely better than staying at the motel, and if you want the company, I really wouldn't mind not being alone, either. If you're sure, then yeah, I'll take you up on that offer."
"I'm sure and I'll make sure you got privacy, but I still really do want to learn your kind of dancing if we get the time sometime." Lyric has a seat, "You can move in as soon as you're ready and just make yourself at home. There's a few beers in the fridge, you can have anything you want in there too. I don't mind sharing anything. Just be comfortable and it's as much your home as it is mine." A smile is given then, letting him get a beer or something if he wants. "If you need help moving I can help you."
"Yeah, I don't mind sharing either. Whatever I get and put in there, you're more than welcome to, as well," Cole says, wandering over to one of the couches and settling onto it. "At the moment, I really only have a fwe things at the motel. I didn't bring a lot of stuff with me. I figured I could always ship whatever I need here once I settle down somewhere. So I can throw the clothes I have and the couple of suitcases in the car and just bring it over tomorrow morning."
"Thank you." Lyric smiles and gets up to put her shoes by the door only to walk back and curl up a little on the couch with her legs beneath her, still sitting up. "Tomorrow morning then." She digs into her pocket and pulls out a single key on a keyring and offers it over to him. "Welcome home," she smiles brightly. "I have some extra hangers if you need any for your clothes."
"I'll stop by the store and pick up a few things," Cole says, "Though yeah if you have a couple of hangars, I'll deifnitely borrow those." He reaches out and takes they key on the keyring and he adds it to his own, which only has a couple of keys on it -- one ofor the car, the other which may be to some kind of a storage unit, probably where his stuff is back home. "This is.. so weird. I guess I hadn't expected to find a place so fast.. or to have a roommate.. but it's kind of cool at the same time."
"It's kinda weird. But we'll get used to it, I bet. If not just let me know if you find something better okay? Never be afraid to tell me if it's not working out or you're unhappy or something." Lyric smiles, trying to look reassuring to him. "Want to talk about where you came from before? Or anything? Or is it too soon?"
"I promise I'll let you knwo if it's not working out," Cole says, "But I get the feeling that we're going to be just fine." He grins at her then. When she asks about where he came from, he says, "Boston. I grew up there. My family's still there. I went to a performing arts school, and was a ballet dancer. I was going to be in the Boston Ballet, but I got hit by a car, and .. things changed after that. I almost didn't make it."
"I think we will be too. Best buds," Lyric teases lightly. "Boston. I wonder what it's like there in such a big big city. I guess it would be really hard to see others like us there with so many people around all the time. Do you miss your family?" Lowering her eyes to his legs she frowns a touch. "Where did you get hurt? Was it really bad?"
"I mean, Boston's a pretty little city compared to a lot of others. Tiny when you look at someplace like Los Angeles or New York," Cole says, taking off his shoes and setting them off to the side as he draws his legs up to sit cross-legged on the couch. "I didn't really see anyone else like us. I didn't really know what I was seeing when I first saw what I did, and didn't really understand it." When she asks about his family he nods and says, "Yeah, I do. But they..." He shakes his head a little. "They look at me differently now, and I just couldn't take that.. pity. I'm not a victim." When she asks where he got hurt and if it was bad, he just nods, "Yeah, it was bad."
"I don't know who my dad is. I never have. My mom though, she's not around anymore. Not since I was pretty young." Lyric considers him and his family. "I guess sometimes it is better away from family. Maybe they mean well, maybe my mom did, maybe yours does, but at the time it sure doesn't seem like it does it?" Turning more to face him she rests her cheek against the back cushion of the couch, "If it matters any at all, I don't think you look like a victim. You came out here on your own based on a feeling. That's about the bravest thing I could think of."
"Mine mean well enough, and I do miss them, but I needed to do my own thing right now, and I think they're too busy morning all the hopes that they had, that they don't seem to understand that things have changed, and I'm moving on even if they can't," Cole says with a slight shake of his head. He smiles a little lopsidedly at her and says, "I don't know if it's brave or stupid, but I'm committed to finding out at this point."
"If it's stupid then there are a whole lot like us here. People who came, people who are born here. Others who are born here then leave and then come back again because they can't stay away. I was at the Two if by Sea bar earlier and the bartender is like us. And a french lady that works for the florist? She is too. Her name is Genevieve. We should write down a whole list of the people we know are. But then I'd worry someone would find it." Lyric hesitates on that then sighs. "Maybe we better not write it down. You know, you can go ahead and spend the night here if you want, the bed could be made, I have sheets and all. Then you could just go get your things in the morning and check out of the motel then when you get your things. I mean if you want. I have to go put in a few applications on my phone for a few places in town. But you're welcome to stay."
