(TXT to August) Itzhak : okay so violin wood
(TXT to August) Itzhak : tonewoods, they're called,
(TXT to Itzhak) August : I've been watching the sapwood on these saplings all day. the active xylem. and the phloem. their heartwood's very thing but they already have a tiny bit.
(TXT to August) Itzhak : what
(TXT to August) Itzhak : wtf is xylem
(TXT to August) Itzhak : do you know how many times i had to try to type that word.
(TXT to Itzhak) August : xylem is what makes heartwood. like we needed for your bow. it pulls water and food out of the roots and out to the leaves. that's sapwood. active xylem.
(TXT to Itzhak) August : why did they make a new word for it. tonewood. why not just use the name of the part of the tree they need?
(TXT to Itzhak) August : spider's back. guess he's determined to make a web on the ceiling.
(TXT to August) Itzhak : idk, because other trees don't make good tones i think
(TXT to August) Itzhak : spider's probably a girl
(TXT to August) Itzhak : uh so are you okay
(TXT to Itzhak) August : oh, good point, she. that makes sense--sort of like we call some trees conifers, and cedars, and so on.
(TXT to Itzhak) August : I'm totally fine why would I not be
(TXT to Itzhak) August : most of the cedars here are cypresses though. just fyi.
(TXT to August) Itzhak : great. good to know.
(TXT to August) Itzhak : are you drunk?
(TXT to Itzhak) August : no, not drunk. it's possible I'm high. I don't know if it counts as 'high' when it's dryad ichor. (ty to Alexander for that word)
(TXT to August) Itzhak : are you joking me??? you're high on "'"'ichor'"'"? did you lick a dream tree? tell me you didn't lick a dream tree, roen, i expect better of you
(TXT to Itzhak) August : I'm not you so of course I did NOT lick a dream tree
(TXT to Itzhak) August : it's possible that finch and I did shake hands with some. actually I'm pretty sure it was an oath? details hazy at this time.
(TXT to August) Itzhak : okay first off how dare you
(TXT to August) Itzhak : you did blood brothers with dryads? is that what you are telling me?
(TXT to Itzhak) August : high on dryad ichor I am still sure you would absolutely chug maple syrup from over there do not deny it
(TXT to Itzhak) August : they didn't seem to have gender, so I think it'd be just a blood bond. sort of.
(TXT to August) Itzhak : okay blood siblings of indeterminate gender. this is how I know you're fucked up btw
(TXT to Itzhak) August : er. ichor. bond. sorry, thinking is very hard and abstract. the wood burning in the woodstove is really loud. like an avalanche.
(TXT to August) Itzhak : do I need to go over there?
(TXT to Itzhak) August : I think eleanor doesn't want you coming over here. at least not right now.
(TXT to Itzhak) August : we can talk about wood. I mean, tonewood. okay we can try. no promises.
(TXT to August) Itzhak : okay you got Eleanor. is Fincheleh okay? do i need to go check on her? this is exactly the kind of thing de santos is great at handling though
(TXT to Itzhak) August : someone drove us home. Jen. pretty sure it was Jen. suspect I know what Finch did to Ignacio once we dropped her off.
(TXT to Itzhak) August : so don't expect a text back from either of them for a while.
(TXT to August) Itzhak : message received. so okay tonewoods. primarily we're going to need maple and spruce. the spruce has to have a really tight, straight grain. the maple doesn't but all the awesomest violins are made of curly maple or flame maple or whatever so obviously mine has to be too. the seasoning is also a thing
(TXT to August) Itzhak : ebony for the pegs and chinrest and tailpiece but those pieces are small and not rare, can get that shit anywhere
(TXT to Itzhak) August : can grow your own special spruce for that. you can name it, if you want. but I don't think their names work like our names. they thought the names Finch had for her shrubs were silly.
(TXT to Itzhak) August : poor spider. she's having a rough time. fell again.
(TXT to August) Itzhak : you're killing me here roen. name a spruce? what should I name it? isn't that like in charlotte's web where the dad says you don't name the pig because you'll slaughter it?
(TXT to Itzhak) August : that's kind of a human problem though. maybe the spruce wants to be named, then you'll remember who went into your violin.
(TXT to Itzhak) August : that may not have made a lot of sense.
(TXT to August) Itzhak : ...actually that made perfect sense. okay, I'll name the spruce
(TXT to Itzhak) August : glad to know that the ichor hasn't completely rendered me useless
(TXT to August) Itzhak : should I name the maple too if you think we should grow one?
(TXT to Itzhak) August : flame maple I can make. I mean. I can...encourage. shape. it's hard to explain.
(TXT to August) Itzhak : and by we I mean you
(TXT to Itzhak) August : yes we should name both. it can be like, siblings. maybe that will make them more suited for the violin? maybe that's not a thing.
(TXT to Itzhak) August : I need a little piece, though. so I know how to show it what to do. the wood.
(TXT to August) Itzhak : maybe they'll know how to resonate better together if they grow up together. now you have me talking like you
(TXT to August) Itzhak : yeah I have my rental you can check that out
(TXT to August) Itzhak : it'll be like that except more
(TXT to Itzhak) August : the dryads are supposed to come back and apologize to me after we plant the new brood. finch was pissed at them.
(TXT to Itzhak) August : if I ask for more sap though I think Alexander will give me a lecture
(TXT to August) Itzhak : are they actually going to do that? i mean, apologize to hairless monkeys
(TXT to Itzhak) August : not sure. I guess we'll see in a month. next new moon. or something. does the veil have a moon?
(TXT to August) Itzhak : yeah. usually
(TXT to August) Itzhak : the moon is real important in a psychoactive kinda sense? so yeah
(TXT to August) Itzhak : kinda wanna watch you get lectured by Alexander not gonna lie
(TXT to Itzhak) August : they said next time the moon was dark except I was too busy not falling over to ask them for clarification on that.
(TXT to Itzhak) August : who says I'm telling him.
(TXT to August) Itzhak : nice try but you already said you told him, busted
(TXT to Itzhak) August : oh. right. I should tell eleanor to confiscate my phone. maybe I will once she wakes up.
(TXT to Itzhak) August : I wish I could explain what this is like. I can feel the spider climbing the wall again. sense the silk she's leaving as she goes, maybe so she won't fall. it's great but I also hope it stops soon so I can do anything.
(TXT to August) Itzhak : getting really, really high on weed is a lot like that, everything moves slow and it's so fascinating you don't want to stop watching. also you can't remember how to pick up your water bottle but maybe that was just me.
(TXT to Itzhak) August : ...yeah. you're right, it IS a little like that. except on weed I wasn't able to feel the individual parts of a cell moving around. doing things. I swear I can feel RuBisCO doing its thing in this spiderplant right now.
(TXT to August) Itzhak : that is kinda awesome, i have no idea what rubisco is but that is awesome. don't do anything too wild though okay
(TXT to Itzhak) August : it's me, the most you need to worry about is me digging a hole and trying to live in it.
(TXT to Itzhak) August : ribulose 1,5 bisphosphate carboxylase oxygenase
(TXT to August) Itzhak : you can dig a hole and try to live in it, that's cool. when this stuff wears off you'll be dying to get out and get in the bathtub
(TXT to August) Itzhak : that doesn't tell me anything roen
(TXT to Itzhak) August : it's the most important enzyme complex on the planet. also it's kind of bad at its job. don't tell it I said that though.
(TXT to Itzhak) August : okay when I'm not riding the dryad ichor rollercoaster...I will see about finding a good maple. and spruce.
(TXT to August) Itzhak : it'll be our secret that nabisco is bad at its job
(TXT to Itzhak) August : sadly most of the scientific community is aware of that. but I feel like letting the plants know will insult them. it's their biosphere after all.
