Text

(TXT to Itzhak) August: hey you and ruiz weren't at karaoke, what gives

(TXT to Itzhak) August: figured you wouldn't pass up the chance to embarrass him with a bit of George Michael

(TXT to August) Itzhak: God I wish

(TXT to August) Itzhak: he's messed up

(TXT to Itzhak) August: shit, sorry, that sucks. you two okay? you're not in the hospital, are you?

(TXT to August) Itzhak: we're at my place. he's not okay. he's really not okay. something's wrong with him

(TXT to Itzhak) August: ...wait, you mean like, mentally not okay? you need me to get a referral from Katie? insurance is pretty shit about paying for phone in but we could sort that out later

(TXT to August) Itzhak: uh, well, I mean, you're not wrong, but

(TXT to August) Itzhak: it's worse than that

(TXT to August) Itzhak: he's

(TXT to August) Itzhak: i don't even know how to explain it. something else is in his head.

(TXT to Itzhak) August: worse?

(TXT to Itzhak) August: shit. you mean, like, Them. or something of Theirs.

(TXT to August) Itzhak: yeah. something like Them.

(TXT to August) Itzhak: he tried to shoot Cavanaugh. no, he didn't try, he would have shot him. he was just fucking with him. terrorizing him.

(TXT to August) Itzhak: cavanaugh had to cross the border to get away from him

(TXT to Itzhak) August: well that's new and fucking awful. so, he's at your place. how bad are we talking here. like when it was...(he gets the other text) Jesus. are you there alone?

(TXT to August) Itzhak: no, Marshall's here

(TXT to Itzhak) August: ...can he even get back out? he didn't seem that strong last I checked him.

(TXT to August) Itzhak: like Gohl. yeah. except worse, because he doesn't...

(TXT to August) Itzhak: I went in and got him

(TXT to Itzhak) August: okay. look, first thing's first. do you need anything? I mean, aside from us getting him fixed, which we're gonna do. but, until we can get Hyacinth or Alexander to look at him, what else do you need

(TXT to Itzhak) August: I assume you both got out of there with all your limbs

(TXT to August) Itzhak: I don't know. I can't hardly think. Cavanaugh's okay. I knocked de la Vega out with a fucking tree branch, August, why does that hurt so fucking bad

(TXT to Itzhak) August: because you know you'd rather cut off your own arm than ever hurt him, and They didn't give you a choice

(TXT to Itzhak) August: okay no need to give me things you need now. if you think of something, text or call or whatever. in the mean time, feel free to talk to me about anything you want

(TXT to August) Itzhak: he did something to me. like a spell. a spell of horny. made me feel it.

(TXT to August) Itzhak: never had anyone do that to me before. kind of had the idea I could do it, but, never have

(TXT to Itzhak) August: look it's hard to not laugh when you describe it that way.

(TXT to Itzhak) August: sounds like that thing de Santos and I do with the mind Art. you know, when we've calmed you down? just, with lust instead.

(TXT to Itzhak) August: you probably can, that one's been getting stronger in you. I've been able to do that since I was young. it's the first one I had.

(TXT to August) Itzhak: so my point is I might have accidentally made out with Cavanaugh

(TXT to August) Itzhak: I dunno what the hell de la Vega wanted by cursing me with the world's most painful hard-on, but probably not that

(TXT to Itzhak) August: you realize that's literally a Talmudic argument. 'my boyfriend made me horny with his psychic powers and then I made out with this other guy'

(TXT to August) Itzhak: shit, you're killing me

(TXT to Itzhak) August: sorry that was the first thing that came to mind. but I expect he was trying to distract you. or make you uncomfortable.

(TXT to August) Itzhak: tried to distract HIM with it, but didn't work

(TXT to August) Itzhak: or maybe it did and that's why I could hit him. idk.

(TXT to Itzhak) August: it might have. but also a guy like de la vega isn't distracted by sex. he's distracted by obfuscation and indirectness. refusing to play his game. that frustrates him, and that distracts him.

(TXT to Itzhak) August: rabbinic rhetoric aside, that wasn't your fault. sure, maybe you two both could have not done that, but it's not like you were out there thinking 'fuck de la Vega I'm getting me some of this got blond soco' you know?

(TXT to Itzhak) August: *hot

(TXT to August) Itzhak: god dammit Roen, i'm crying i'm laughing so hard

(TXT to August) Itzhak: we totally talked about double teaming him before too

(TXT to Itzhak) August: glad I could help. now there's a mental image.

(TXT to Itzhak) August: so look. we'll get hold of Hyacinth and Alexander, see what they can come up with. how about I bring you and Easton some food.

(TXT to Itzhak) August: (...)

(TXT to Itzhak) August: also I would have figured de la vega and Cavendish are still being bitter about whatever went down with them though I suppose that doesn't preclude a little hate fucking

(TXT to Itzhak) August: cavanaugh*

(TXT to August) Itzhak: CAVENDISH well I'm calling him that now

(TXT to Itzhak) August: you absolutely should, courtesy of my phone

(TXT to August) Itzhak: yeah uh apparently they thought each other was dead or something.

(TXT to August) Itzhak: just to make this way harder on me than it could be, i guess

(TXT to Itzhak) August: well that's sticky. but it was also a couple decades ago.

(TXT to Itzhak) August: so I can't speak for them but the guy I was, at 21? he's dead. that's just how it is. it's really too bad but he's not coming back. so in a case like theirs, as shitty as it is, the people they were are probably gone.

(TXT to August) Itzhak: I read his memoirs

(TXT to Itzhak) August: what I mean here is, what they had then, that's not coming back. anything now will be it's own thing.

(TXT to August) Itzhak: he's had like three careers. he's an astronaut. I swear I'm not going to turn this into how much better than me he is except maybe a little

(TXT to August) Itzhak: yeah, okay. I read you

(TXT to Itzhak) August: good because he's not. how'd you find them?

(TXT to August) Itzhak: de la Vega texted me to get him back across the border

(TXT to August) Itzhak: and I didn't know he was ferkakt until Cavanaugh told me. and then he showed up acting. weird. cold. flat.

(TXT to August) Itzhak: like the way people say Alexander acts even though he doesn't

(TXT to Itzhak) August: sorry I meant, the memoirs, what did you think. but that sure doesn't sound like him.

(TXT to Itzhak) August: had he said anything about being in one of their constructs?

(TXT to August) Itzhak: you'll love this, Amazon recommended them to me. I was like TJ Cavanaugh, pilot, that's funny...wait a minute

(TXT to Itzhak) August: betrayed by Amazon. I bet if you look up things in plants they'll hit you with me next.

(TXT to August) Itzhak: they're good. but I read 'em kinda trying to hope to get a handle on who he is. no luck.

(TXT to Itzhak) August: ghost written? or long enough ago it was before he had his Art?

(TXT to August) Itzhak: no, he wrote them. just...he talks a lot about stuff he did, and engineering and engines and stuff, which is all awesome don't get me wrong. but not a lot about ...himself? i don't know how to say this.

(TXT to Itzhak) August: no, I think I get what you mean. he didn't introspect much, sounds like. didn't talk in way which showed you him.

(TXT to Itzhak) August: there's a bit of...I guess I can call it self-honesty, or self-acceptance, you need to reach before you can do that.

(TXT to August) Itzhak: don't tell anybody I said this. but he told me he's had to hide that he likes guys his entire life. that he did everything for NASA under false pretenses, because of that.

(TXT to Itzhak) August: having to hide he was queer doesn't mean he was doing shit under false pretenses. means he was working for people who didn't care about him enough to let him be himself.

(TXT to August) Itzhak: yeah, that's what I thought too, but couldn't think of how to say it

(TXT to Itzhak) August: not surprised to hear he thinks that, though. there area lot of people who go into the military for a career and they take the higher standard stuff real seriously, but then don't hold the command structure to the same requirements.

(TXT to August) Itzhak: seems like he blames himself pretty good for carrying on with de la Vega in the Navy. but hell, how is it his fault when straight guys are allowed to bang like screen doors?

(TXT to Itzhak) August: so then they blame themselves. whatever, Sally Ride was the first queer person in space and that was the damned 80s, the military and NASA can suck his dick

(TXT to Itzhak) August: this is going to sound kind of dumb because it is, but bear with me

(TXT to Itzhak) August: one if the major things the military really beats into your head is that you're serving a higher purpose, that you're doing all of this because the country and the constitution are institutions worthy of your sacrifice

(TXT to Itzhak) August: but when you're queer, you're pretty much not included in that. by definition, thanks to shit like DOMA and DADT.

(TXT to Itzhak) August: but since following orders and the chain of command and the code of conduct are etched into your damned brain, it puts people who have military careers in a position of either realizing it's all bullshit

(TXT to Itzhak) August: or finding a way to make it their fault. so, rather than decide the entire military is bullshit and built on a pack of lies, they go with option b

(TXT to August) Itzhak: yeah he's definitely on option b. the poor guy.

(TXT to August) Itzhak: de la Vega never seems to feel like that, or maybe he just doesn't talk about it.

(TXT to Itzhak) August: which is why random sergeant x can bang all the women he wants, but Joe so as jerks ONE other dude off and he's failing NASA

(TXT to August) Itzhak: I thought it must have been more or less like when I was in prison, but I didn't have to swear fealty to some bullshit organization in there. I stayed away from anybody for my own good, you know? so it turns out it's way worse what they went through.

(TXT to Itzhak) August: (so much as*) not that I can speak to your pillow talk, but de la Vega doesn't strike me as a guy who delves into that stuff

(TXT to August) Itzhak: he don't talk about the military at all. my pop didn't either

(TXT to Itzhak) August: yeah the thing there is no one is laboring under a false assumption prison is awesome and patriotic. or at least no one who's not a total idiot. but being negative about the military, that'll get you some shit these days

(TXT to Itzhak) August: your dad might've been in Nam. won't blame anyone for not talking about that.

(TXT to August) Itzhak: yeah. he was.

(TXT to August) Itzhak: late. when it was really bad

(TXT to Itzhak) August: speaking from personal experience about something on a related level, yeah. sorry, itzhak, I know that had to be hard on him and all of you. no mental health counseling in this country then.
