Isolde was sitting up at the counter of the Grizzly, poking at something or other on her phone. Maybe some kind of matching game with the way her finger was sliding to and fro. Her long red hair was pulled back in a ponytail and she wore a pair of jeans with a gray long-sleeved shirt and work boots. Her frog charm bracelet was peeking out from under her left sleeve. There was a strawberry milkshake beside her - because obviously cold treats were perfect for cold weather - and a large plate of french fries. The perfect combination and the breakfast of champions.
Adam was enjoying the time off he had from his move and getting acclimated to the town. Pulling up outside of the Grizzly, he made his way inside with a big of a grin and a whole lot of wonder. The decor amused him to no end. He wore a black bomber coat that was now unzipped when he enters, his shield on his waist even though he was off duty. Still he wanted people to get used to him before he started moving around in his dress blues.
Sitting at the counter himself, he glanced toward Isolde trying to place if they met, before ordering a large stack of french toast and sausages.
Isolde looked up from her phone when someone sat down. A decidedly sunny smile was offered as those wild, curious blue eyes studied the newcomer. "Hello! Just stay away. From the omelettes. " it's a serious warning even as she eats a shake dipped fry. "Who are you?" Her speech and tone was decidedly a bit more childlike in contrast to her clearly older appearance.
"No omelettes, any other advice?" He smiles back both warm and friendly as he turns to face Isolde. "My name is Adam, just transferred here from Seattle. What's your name?" He was fit and trim, keeping his black hair cur short.
"Seattle? Neat. Seattle is a fun place sometimes. Lots of things happening." Isolde nods. "My name is Isolde! Izzy is okay too. " She extends out hr hand to offer a shake. "It's nice to met you." The badge is noted as she does this, which prompts the curious question of - "Are you a policeman?"
"It is nice to meet you as well." Even his hands are warm when he shakes. He nods his head while still smiling. "Yes I am Izzy. I was in Seattle for a few years on the force but my sister moved here and loves it so I came down so she would not feel so far from family. How about you, are you from around here?" He politely asks for a cup of coffee, sipping it black.
Isolde peers at Adam for a moment after the handshake is over. "This town is very gray. I am surprised anybody. Loves it." She eats another french fry. "Most of the people are good. But the town itself is..." She does a little hand wobble. "Almost a year! I was living with. My best friend. Alexander. But I finally have my own place." Sounding rather proud of that.
"Congratulations." He cuts a chunk of sausage. "It is nice to have your own place. I just missed her." He chuckles. He cuts his french toast and takes a bit then looks to Isolde. "Jewels is a photographer by trade and really enjoys the feel of the pictures she is able to take here. She is a history buff, loving older structures." He nods.
"Ohh cool! Taking pictures is fun. Do you wan to see a funny one?" She doesn't wait for him to confirm, instead just taps on her phone and then shows him a picture of her standing in the woods at night with a tree frog on her head, two on each shoulder, and a scattering along her arms and hanging on her legs. "Aren't they so cute?! Frogs are the best. " Then she would put her phone back over to her side. "So are you staying long then?"
"That is adorable." He adds more syrup but was clearly paying attention. "Yes, I completed my transfer here, will be at least a few years before i consider it again. I like it here, I do need to see about finding a gym." He pondered that. "Any place you recommend?"
"I do lots of odd job stuff. And I walk everywhere so I don't. Really need to. Work out." A few more fries eaten as Isolde contemplates. "But there are some. Kelly's Gym. On Elm? It's a boxing place...and I think there is one. Uhm, at the strip mall probably!" She nods a few times. "Winter will be over soon and it will get a little better. The gray will not be as gray."
"A boxing gym would be great. I did a bit of amateur boxing while I was in college. The weather taking a true will get us out, which is great. We have a hunting background, Jewellia and I. Dad use to take us both and we really enjoy it. Helps that if we get lost in the woods we should freeze." He laughs.
"Be careful. In the woods. The woods are a bad thing sometimes." Isolde nods again before taking a drink of her milkshake. "What kind of things do you hunt? Or like to hunt?"
"Usually follow the season's, have hunted deer, fishing. If something is dangerous to Jewels and will attack then I will protect her, if we stumble into someone's home I'd rather no one get hurt. But nothing too crazy. You said the woods are bad?" He stopped eating to focus.
Isolde contemplates for a moment, shifting and seemed to really concentrate on Adam for moment. Less so looking at them then looking around him. Finally, she straightens a bit and gives a crooked smile. "Like I said. This town is gray. There are more bad things than good things that happen. If you see the old Sawmill just. Stay away from it.Or if things feel strange...turn around and go home." Is all she offers before brightening up again. "Are you going to the St. Patricks thing in a couple weeks?"
The hairs on the back of his neck stood up when Isolde spoke like that. "Thank you for the advice. I will keep it in mind and keep her away from the sawmill. If work requires me to go... Tonserve and protect." He nods and sips his coffee.
Parking her car next to her brother's truck, Jeweelia climbed out, pulling her leather jacket a bit more around her in an attempt to fend off the cold wind. Walking up she pushed the door open and stepped inside. There she stopped for a moment as she simply looked around, her expression showing that she had never seen anything quite like this in her life. Giving her head a small amused shake she headed for the table where Adam was sitting, giving him a bright, happy smile, and looking curiously at the woman he was seated with giving her a smile that was just as warm and friendly.
Isolde looked over her shoulder as the door opened. She and Adam were seated up at the counter. She watched the woman make her way over and, after looking looking between them finally asked, "Are you the sister?" Question curious and smile bright. "My name is Izzy!" She offers up before dipping a fry in her shake and eating it.
She looked at Izzy as she spoke and smiled, holding out her hand. "I am! My name is Jewellia ( pronounced Julia) it is nice to meet you, Izzy. Did Adam already tell you he had a sister?" Jewellia was small standing only about 5ft3, and her long, curly brown hair was left loose around her shoulders. She was dressed in light-colored jeans and a dark blue sweater, along with winter boots.
Isolde easily shook her hand and nodded. "Mhm! He mentioned that you take pictures. And that you two. Like to go hunting." She offered, leaning against the counter lightly. "How long have you. Been in Gray Harbor?" Raising a brow, curious. Her speech was a little stilted and perhaps reminiscent of a child.
Jewellia moved to take a seat on the other side of her brother, but where she could still talk to Izzy easily enough. "I have only been here for a few months. I love it here, well not the weather. it is a beautiful place for photography. Lots of old forgotten places, or just unique ones like this one." She nodded again " Our father s former military so he taught both of us hunting and survival skills, usually whatever is in season. How about you, what is it you do, Izzy?"
Isolde listens thoughtfully, nodding a bit here and there. "I was telling Adam. Be careful in the forest. Stay away from the Sawmill. And i things feel wrong - to turn around and go home." Another fry eaten. "I do odd job things. Almost been here for a year. It's a very gray place...but most of the people are good."
"The sawmill? I thought people worked out there, or is there a different one, and why should I stay away from it." Adam would know that tone his sister's curiosity had been piqued. "Both Adam and I are pretty comfortable in the woods but if i ever feel weird about it I will keep what you said in mind." reaching out she swiped a piece of sausage from her brother's plate while he had stepped away, and then picked up a menu to look it over.
Isolde shook her had. "It's been abandoned a long time. Like...long long. Lots of deaths. Very dangerous." Pointing with a fry at the menu, "Like I told Adam. Avoid the omelettes." But doesn't seem inclined to elaborate on why. "Are you going to the. St. Patrick's Day event? In a couple weeks?"
She looked curiously at Izzy. "Interesting. I am not sure f Adam had a chance to tell you or not but I like the history of places, would the library have the history of the sawmill for me to read?" She blinked and looked at Izzy curiously once again "Why avoid the omelets? "When the ST Patricks day even was mentioned Jewellia smiled brightly. I was hoping to. Adam will probably have to work, but I was planning on going and maybe having a few green beers and taking some pictures. How about you?"
"It might! Harper is the librarian. You can ask her if she is there when you go." Isolde offered and brightened up. "Yes! It will be my birthday! A party with out needing to do work. It will be great." She wiggled a bit in her seat. "Also maybe the historical society place might have information too."
"Happy early birthday Izzy!" she couldn't help but smile at the other woman. I will make sure to find you at the party and buy you a drink or three from both me and my brother."She nodded when she mentioned the historical society. "I think I will try there first."
"Thank you! I haven't done things. For my birthday in a. Long time but, this is going to be good." Isolde agreed. "A good thing in a gray town." A pause, and then a giggle. "Though it'll be a green town." she finishes off her french fries. " They at least maybe can. Point you in the right. Direction."
The clipped childlike way Isolde occasionally spoke in was something that Jewellia had noticed, and made a mental note of, but did not mention. She laughed softly. Definitely going to be a green day for St Patrick's day. Maybe I will put green streaks in my hair in celebration or something."She pulled a curl over her shoulder and looked at it before throwing her hair back over her shoulder. "And yeah if they don't know maybe they can tell me where I can find the history of it. "
"That would be cool! Green hair. I am going to wear my green frog shirt. I'm going to add shamrock drawings." Isolde nodded emphatically. "I hope I see you there! Green curls would be very neat." A sip of milkshake taken. "Where were you before Gray Harbor?"
" You like frogs?" She smiled. When her food was set in front of her she added syrup to her waffles, dipping her sausage link into the syrup before taking a bite. "I was in Seattle before I was here. That is where Adam and I are from."
"I love frogs." Isolde picked up her phone again to show Jewellia a picture of her standing in the woods at night with a tree frog on her head, two on each shoulder, and a scattering along her arms and hanging on her legs. "My boyfriend is going to help me build a terrarium in the spring so I can have my own!"
She leaned over so that she could see the picture and laughed giving an AWWWW sound as she did. 'That is completely adorable!. I have been thinking about adopting a kitten myself. "
Isolde grinned and put her phone away again. "Kittens are cute. My friend Alexander has a bird. Luigi. He's grumpy but adorable." She relaxed against the counter a bit again. "What kind of kitten?"
"What sort of bird does your friend have?" she looked at the other girl curiously as she continued to eat her breakfast. "I was thinking of a little black kitten r maybe a Calico. I volunteer on the weekends sometimes, so it depends on what they have and what needs adoption the most when I go there. Calico's are my favorites though."
"You will have to show me pictures some day after you get one." Isolde smiled. "Luigi is a green conure. We watched TV together a lot. When I was living with my friend." Her head tilted ever so slightly. "How often do you volunteer?"
"Watching TV with a bird. That sounds like that would be pretty entertaining, if nothing else watching the bird's reactions to what it is seeing on the tv. I will totally show you pictures when I get the kitten, you will have to show me your frog once you get him too!" Shre took a sip of her coffee. I volunteer once a month more if I have the time between taking freelance photography jobs."
Jewellia stood opening her purse and laying out the money for her and her brother's breakfast. "It was great meeting you, Izzy. I am sure we will see one another again, I have to buy you a green beer for you birthday after all. She smiled. "Have a good day.!"
"It was fun. I need to visit them again soon. It's been a while." Isolde mused, finishing off her shake. "I can't wait to see and yes! I will share pictures too." She agreed, wiggling a bit in her seat. "I have a special spot in my home. That is going to be just for the set up." She checked her phone as Jewellia started to take her leave. "I should go too. I will see you both later! Have a good day." She flashed smiles all around and then put down some money as well - heading out not too long after.
