Text

(TXT to Ruiz) Byron: (Ring Ring. Byron Thorne's name comes up)

(TXT to Byron) Ruiz: (picks up on the tail end of the fourth ring, right before it goes to voice mail) De la Vega.

(TXT to Ruiz) Byron: Captain de la Vega, Byron Thorne. (As if Ruiz didn't already know that) I wanted to extend my condolences to you and the GHPD family. Just read in the Gazette that Police Chief Thatchery was found dead at Firefly Forest.

(TXT to Byron) Ruiz: (a pause, and then he clears his throat lightly) Thanks. I uh, I appreciate it. I'm sure you can understand, this is a very difficult time for those of us at the precinct.

(TXT to Ruiz) Byron: Of course. I understand. Thatchery showed up in town right before I left for college. I congratulated him on his position then, so I'm sorry to see that he's gone. Seemed like a good sort, I think.

(TXT to Byron) Ruiz: He did the best that he could. In a town like this, it's a bit of a feat sometimes. Didn't know you knew him back then. I'll, uh, I can let you know once I've got details on a funeral. If you want.

(TXT to Ruiz) Byron: Even after my father died, I still kept in contact with the GHPD family. Knew the Police Chief before Thatchery for most of my life. But yes, I would appreciate that. Thank you. I won't bug you about details on what happened. I obviously know better, but I hope you catch the person or people who did this.

(TXT to Byron) Ruiz: :chuckles briefly. "I know you do. You won't ask, and I won't tell. I'm glad we understand each other. And Mr. Thorne, we don't take cop killers lightly. We'll find this fucker." A beat, and a rustling in the background like he's shifting the phone from shoulder back to hand. "Anything else I can help you with tonight?"

(TXT to Ruiz) Byron: (There's light laughter coming from Byron's side too) I'll wait for the official statement to come out. And, just one thing before I let you go: I figure you've heard about Easton Marshall's disappearance by now.

(TXT to Ruiz) Byron: (Byron adds in) Um, Elias Weber, the guy whose family owned the bookstore? He seemingly disappeared too recently. The evening of the Sitka grand opening at the casino. I was told that he never got off the ferry heading back to town.

(TXT to Byron) Ruiz: (a beat, and a semi-audible breath) Easton Marshall, yeah. I've got an APB out. It's going to be a dead end, he's not.. here.

(TXT to Ruiz) Byron: Right, Bennie told me that. So this is two disappearances. Vanishings.

(TXT to Byron) Ruiz: Mm, hold on. Weber. Elias Weber.. right. Missing person report was filed two days ago. Nothing there, either. Look, have you considered that it might be possible to enter the Veil and become lost? Unable to find your way back out. Like maybe you forget yourself, or.. I.. (he trails off)

(TXT to Ruiz) Byron: You know what's strange, now that I think about it. Isidore Reede, Isabella's brothe and the mother of my best friend vanished around the same time as well. The funny part is, that was the same year that Thatchery came to town. Coincidences, but interesting ones.

(TXT to Ruiz) Byron: Yeah, a lot of people get lost in the Veil. I used to think they were sucked in, like with Dreams. But thinking further on it, I guess... they could have gone in voluntarily.

(TXT to Ruiz) Byron: (He quickly adds) Vivian Glass is still missing too. (His ex who he'd reported as a missing person around the winter holiday season)

(TXT to Byron) Ruiz: (there's the thump of a sliding door being slid open, then the drumming of something in the background that sounds like it might be rain) I'm not sure there's any such thing as a coincidence in this fucking town, Thorne. (a sigh) I haven't made any headway on her, either. It's.. sometimes it's too much. You know?

(TXT to Ruiz) Byron: (Byron nods regarding lack of information on Vivian, though Ruiz won't be able to see it. He then responds to the last thing Ruiz says with a laugh) After a recent incident, I had the mind to leave town as well. Maybe one day, when I smarten up. (A thoughtful pause) You were with Bennie when she went to the Asylum?

(TXT to Byron) Ruiz: You should leave. You should take Lilith and leave, and never come back.

(TXT to Byron) Ruiz: (after a moment) Yeah, I was with her. Why?

(TXT to Ruiz) Byron: Yeah, I should. Like I said, maybe one day. We both have unfinished business here in town and things to take care of. Ahh... as for the Asylum, (The sound of a deep exhaled breath) If not Marshall, I was wondering if maybe Vivian could've been there. Then I heard the place vanished and... there was a doctor exploding people's heads? Do you /think/ she could have been there? Vivian was looking into the Asylum with Easton before her disappearance.

(TXT to Byron) Ruiz: (makes a sound like he's thinking about that) No. I think I'd have.. felt her mind, if she was. I mean I can't promise it, as I didn't know her well at all, but. I don't think so.

(TXT to Ruiz) Byron: Yeah, I figured as much. Don't know if you heard, but my friend, Tobin Gilford finally left town after he stopped being able to sense his mother's presence. I guess she's finally gone. For real. (A thoughtful pause) Anyway, I won't keep you any longer. Again, my condolences for Thatchery's death and I hope things don't get too complicated over the precinct due to his absence. (That last bit is said more lightly with a touch of humor).

New Content

(TXT to Byron) Ruiz: I hadn't. I think he'll be happier elsewhere. And thanks again. It'll be an adjustment, until a new Chief's named. You and Lilith take care of yourselves, yeah?

(TXT to Ruiz) Byron: We'll do our best, thanks.
