(TXT to Alexander) August: so. cops asking people to commit credit card fraud for them. that sound like a Monaghan thing to you?
(TXT to August) Alexander: That sounds like a stupid thing. Monaghan wouldn't order cops to do that, I think, unless it was to frame or destroy evidence. Some cops are just corrupt. And stupid.
(TXT to Alexander) August: that was my thinking too, re: Monaghan. in that case, there's a cop with the Art--weak, though--who tried to lean on Abitha, the one who owns the gaming store? trying to get her to give him credit card info. Harvey Liu.
(TXT to Alexander) August: passed it on to Ruiz but I figure you might want to keep an eye out for him since you run into cops a lot.
(TXT to August) Alexander: The one who saw the elves with us. I remember her. Do you want me to look into Liu?
(TXT to Alexander) August: it might not hurt. normal cops being corrupt is one thing. ones with the shine? that's maybe a problem. could be Them.
(TXT to August) Alexander: All right. Harvey Liu. I'll poke around and see what comes up about him.
(TXT to Alexander) August: thanks. how're you doing, by the way. I mean, after the funeral. need any patching up?
(TXT to August) Alexander: I'm sad. But the leg healed up fine. It was only a bit more than a scratch.
(TXT to Alexander) August: glad it wasn't too bad. and...yeah. wish we'd been able to help some of the regular folks who got dragged in, but those things were just too fast.
(TXT to Alexander) August: I got some of the flowers that popped up, though. and some of the bird's feather's. if you're feeling curious.
(TXT to August) Alexander: Yes. Always curious.
(TXT to Alexander) August: alrighty. I'll drop by your place and we can go over everything.
(TXT to Alexander) August: and listen. about when you and Itzhak and I went into the Veil. you know we're okay, right? if you don't, consider this knowing it.
(TXT to August) Alexander: I didn't know. I worried. I'm sorry.
(TXT to Alexander) August: it's alright. in your position I'd have hopped off into the Veil without even talking to anyone beyond a text. so it's not like I can't appreciate how you felt.
(TXT to Alexander) August: not saying I wish you hadn't decided to go after the first thing we came across, just, I'm also not mad at you about it.
(TXT to August) Alexander: I can't go unless someone takes me.
(TXT to Alexander) August: a fact for which I am eternally grateful. (no offense.)
(TXT to August) Alexander: ::frown face emoji::
(TXT to Alexander) August: we both know, like me, you'd just run off looking for her and we'd never see you again. either because you get Lost or because something eats you.
(TXT to August) Alexander: Things have been trying to eat me for thirty years. I'm
(TXT to August) Alexander: I want to say im good at not being eaten. but lately I feel weak and useless
(TXT to Alexander) August: you're neither, Alexander. let me be the first to assure you of that. no one with as much of the mind art as you is. hell, I can't do half what you can.
(TXT to Alexander) August: so you can't cross. I can't live in the damned city. and neither me nor Itzhak found Isabella or de la Vega. They let them go. so if you're weak, then we all were.
(TXT to Alexander) August: yeah! also like now everyone has to take it seriously. AND she can psychometry, maybe. (Scene 4851)
(TXT to August) Alexander: its not just that. Isabella was taken right from my house. i couldnt do anything. I couldn't stand up to alice. or even megan. what good are these abilities if they never let me make anything better?
(TXT to Alexander) August: Ellie was taken from her damned bathtub once when I was in the other room. I lost my fucking mind about that.
(TXT to Alexander) August: and not being able to stand up to megan and alice just means they were stronger than you, or got lucky. you're not always going to win. but you don't always lose. remember when you took care of those cultists who took thorne?
(TXT to Alexander) August: and all those times you've calmed me down so I could be in the hospital for someone? and last I checked none of us stood up to megan or alice.
(TXT to August) Alexander: I guess. Thank you. 🙂
(TXT to Alexander) August: your welcome. 'I guess', if you're not careful I'm gonna tell Itzhak and Ruiz about this. they'll yell at you about how you're not weak.
(TXT to August) Alexander: I don't see how having friends yell at me would help me feel better.
(TXT to Alexander) August: you'd be surprised. it'd be that fond aggravated yelling. well, maybe de la Vega won't yell. he'll say 'stop being a child'. Itzhak will yell about how you've saved him a dozen times and if you keep calling yourself weak he's going to plotz.
(TXT to August) Alexander: Ruiz would say 'stop being a fucking child'. He curses a lot.
(TXT to Alexander) August: fair. also he might opt for 'baby' instead of child. and he might say it in spanish. 'maldito bebé' or whatever.
(TXT to August) Alexander: Ha. Yes. Only if he really means it, though. He speaks Spanish when he means things.
(TXT to Alexander) August: makes sense. unfortunately I have to guess any time he uses spanish, and that's just from all those years I lived off this puerto rican place in college (don't judge me, I went to school in Oregon, their education system is a fucking joke)
(TXT to August) Alexander: I went to Oregon, too. Eugene campus.
(TXT to Alexander) August: oh, I meant for high school. well for college too, undergrad. corvallis, though, OSU has one of the only botany departments left in the country. what was your major?
(TXT to August) Alexander: History. Which no doubt contributes almost as much as my emotional instability to my unemployability. 🙂
(TXT to Alexander) August: eh, you could be a teacher, with a history degree. CC or HS, if you don't think you'd want to strangle the later (or their parents) on a daily basis. emotional instability, well, you don't have to know much history to know how fucked everything is.
(TXT to August) Alexander: I teach a couple of 'community enrichment' classes online for the CC system. History of crime, and research methods for personal history discovery.
(TXT to Alexander) August: see? employment. you could broaden that, if you wanted, but I understand if you'd rather not. it's not like I'm not keeping a lower profile for personal reasons.
(TXT to Alexander) August: so my point is, you're not weak. you're entirely capable. not being able to overcome everything isn't weakness. I get it feels like it, though. plenty of times I wish I could be more help to all of you, especially with how our healing keeps weakening.
(TXT to August) Alexander: The healing isn't the best thing you contribute. It could go away and you'd still be strong and useful. You're smart, stable. you connect people. you're not all edges like Javier or all static like Itzhak or me, or all CHARGE like Isabella.
(TXT to Alexander) August: well. thank you. I don't feel particularly stable, but maybe it's just relative. anyways you two aren't all static; you're both brilliant and insightful and you think about things in ways no one else does. that's invaluable. isabella's not all charge. maybe, mostly. but she's also dedicated and methodical. she doesn't do things half-assed. and sure, de la vega's pretty much all edges. it's to defend the stuff he cares about, though. understandable, given the givens.
(TXT to August) Alexander: I didn't say it was bad, being static or charge or edge. Just that you provide something no one else does, and it's not because of your healing. It's you.
(TXT to Alexander) August: mm, well. right back at you. but I'm glad you don't think it's bad. (and it's also not weak. get used to me saying that, BTW.)
(TXT to August) Alexander: It's not weak. I'm weak. Weaker than I should be. Fault lines that are easily broken when the right pressure is applied. But I try to be better. 🙂
(TXT to Alexander) August: okay, got to get back to work. feel free to pass on anything about Mr. Credit Card Fraud to de la Vega. I wouldn't be surprised if these guys are a problem for him sooner or later. I'll stop by with the feathers soon as we've both got time.
(TXT to August) Alexander: I will. Be careful, and hope to see you soon.
(TXT to Alexander) August: eh, we've all got those, Alexander, myself included. all anyone can ask is that we try to do better. which is hardly weak.
