Crazy: Alexander isn't what you'd call stable, and hasn't been for most of his life. He started having night terrors around his fifth birthday, and has developed a reputation for erratic behavior, violence, and just general disconnection from reality ever since, earning himself the local nickname of 'Crazy Clayton'. While a large part of this is that he refuses to lie about Dreams and he disturbs people by talking about the things his Glimmer picks up, he's also got a lot of unusual quirks, isn't always good with 'normal' activities, and does have an explosive temper that can erupt into violence when he's stressed or badly surprised.
Whip-smart: When he's not scaring people by being crazy, Alexander tends to scare people by being both nosy and very good at picking up on things people would rather not be picked up on. He's a trove of weird information, and excels at research and investigation. He has an unlicensed investigative practice with a web-site and everything, and does a lot of client communication online.
Rooted in the Town: The Claytons aren't an important family, but they are a Gray Harbor family, through and through, and his parents are reasonably well-respected, even if Alexander himself is mocked and/or pitied. His father was a popular coach and teacher before he retired, and his mother was a nurse at the hospital. There are a few Clayton cousins here and there.
Cults: If you're a townie, and interested in old gossip, it's well-known that Crazy Clayton was even worse as a teen, and ran away to join a cult when he was 17. And then, it's rumored that he was in another cult during college, and possibly afterwards, as well. In the last ten years or so, though, he hasn't so much as attended a church service, even though his parents are Catholics in good standing with the local parish.

I like plots! I like being IN plots, and I even like RUNNING plots. I do have my preferences, though, so I'm putting those out there in hopes of meeting up with people who enjoy similar vibes.

Running
* I will happily run Dreams - generally horror themed, or occasionally action-filled or humorous. I like a bit of gore, but will ask about people's limits. Still, if you have a horror Dream that you'd like someone to run, let me know!
* Spooky events/drama - On the reality side of the Veil, I'm happy to run murder-mysteries, crime adventure sort of things, or haunting sort of events.
* Short - Because it's 2020 and I only have so much juice, what I run tends to be short (1-3 scenes) and self-contained. Other players are welcome to take any NPCs/elements that I introduce and do whatever you want with them. It's a shared setting, and I do not care as long as people are having fun.

Participating
* Most of the above also goes for the things I like to play in. If you have a plot that would fit pretty well into a police procedural or TV supernatural drama, then I'd almost certainly be interested in it! I don't have the brain or energy for long, slow burn plots - 2-5 scenes for a plot is about my sweet spot, especially if it takes less than two weeks. After that, I'll start to wander and forget things.
* Squicks: I don't have many. I'm not a huge fan of lingering on torture - that it happens is fine, but a highlight or two and then fade to black would be my preference. Most things, just ask if it seems like it might be something people would object to; while I don't have a lot of hard limits, there are certainly things I just may not be up for at a specific time.
* Loves: Crime, skullduggery and sneaking, exploring the dark side of small town Americana, getting to use Glimmer in interesting and unusual ways, action, Alexander getting the chance to be a walking disaster without messing up other people's scenes.

The deep forest, shadowed and steady. He seems kind, and is not a half-bad dancer, even when paired with an inadequate partner. A heart both foolish and wise, who pours himself out on others, not without counting the cost, but reckoning the cost is worth it.

He's intelligent, healthy, well-adjusted, doesn't seem to have any addictions, vices, or dark secrets aside from the ones that come with being an Addington. I really don't know why he seems to enjoy hanging around me. But I enjoy his company, so I guess we'll see how long before I do something crazy enough to make him think better of it.

Bright. Dark. She hides as much being the shiny as I do behind the crazy. Somehow, one of my best friends. Maybe because she doesn't push away easily.

System Information

I'm lousy at meeting new people, and Alexander is terrible at social...anything, but particularly social scenes. Fair warning: Alexander is not great at human interaction, has some 'quirks', and is prone to violence when pressed. Pretty much any log with him in it can give an idea if he'd be fun to play with for you or not!

Townie - Alexander has lived in Gray Harbor for all but 6 or 7 of his 40 years. His parents are townies, too: his father was a football coach at Addington High for about twenty years, and his mother a nurse at Addington Hospital. They're both still alive and reasonably well-liked, and participate in things like bridge clubs and senior's nights out now that they're retired.
Investigator - Alexander is an unlicensed investigator who takes on bizarre cases that no one else wants or thinks are useful - as well as just poking his nose into things whether he's wanted or not. OOC, I try not to 'horn in' on people's history or pasts, but if ICly you want a nosy asshole asking uncomfortable questions, Alexander is happy to oblige. He also takes on clients for jobs as diverse as murdering rogue Elves on Shelves or supernatural stalkers, to trying to figure out whether your girlfriend is an Illuminati agent who is stealing your creativity through your genitalia.
Crime - Alexander is obsessed with crime. Again, OOC, don't want to horn in on people's fun, but if you're a criminal or a law enforcement professional who OOC wants some IC scrutiny from a local nutjob, Alexander can provide! His investigation of a crime can also give him plenty of reasons to stumble over someone or drag them into something chaotic.
Dreams - Finally, Alexander has a tendency to be swept into nasty Dreams. Random people near him might get sucked into them, too. If you want to meet in a Dream, just hit me up! I don't mind running a self-contained Weird Thing that forces characters together for a bit.

Availability: Usually EST evenings, and more flexible during weekends. Can sometimes play during the day, Eastern, but work may make things slow/erratic.

Let's be absolutely fair: Alexander's parents did nothing to deserve him. His father was a respected high school teacher and football coach, his mother was a nurse until she decided to become a stay-at-home parent when she got pregnant with him. They did everything they could to raise a proud, productive American citizen. Unfortunately, Alexander only covered one of those things (maybe two on a good day). He was ferociously precocious from a young age, but undisciplined and with interests that verged from the esoteric to the morbid, and a level of chill that could be best described by the word "none". Not to mention the vivid and unrelenting night terrors that started when he was five and ended...well, he's still hoping.

When he was thirteen, the Gray Harbor PD banned him from showing up to any more crime scenes, writing any more letters to the local cops, and ESPECIALLY from writing letters to the editor about flaws in the cases (particularly when he was right). When he was 17, he ran away to join a cult. That lasted six months before he quit. Then it was a rock band, which lasted only half that because had as much musical talent as he had chill. Then he went to Eugene, OR for college, joined another cult of "ceremonial magickians" (YES they used the 'k') which was mostly an excuse for Classics students to get high, get naked, and paint pictures from the Seal of Solomon on each other. That lasted long enough for him to get a history degree, but eventually he was ejected for just being too damned...weird. Taking it too seriously. And occasionally blurting out things that nobody told him, and that he had no way to know.

Having absolutely no practical use for a degree focusing on the history of crime with a cognate in a dead language, he drifted back to Gray Harbor after a few years. His parents made it quite clear that he would not be allowed to mooch, so he started doing odd jobs. Very odd jobs. He's not a licensed private investigator (licensed are one of the ways THEY track you, don't you know?) but if you had a thing weird enough that not even the real PIs wanted to take your money? Alexander would. And his track record is terrifying. That, and occasional payouts from trawling fugitive reward sites keeps him in rent money and food, although he's not getting rich anytime soon. He's no longer quite the hot mess he was as a 25-year-old, but the words "creepy", "intense", and "needs help" get used quite a bit. He does, truly, wish to help people, and he's frighteningly smart when he's in the same dimension as the rest of the world, but between the nightmares and his own lack of social skills, he's not exactly a comforting or credible presence.

Alexander stands at an average height, a couple of inches under six feet tall, although he often looks a little shorter due to the defensive slouch of his shoulders. His features are lean and intense, with dark eyes usually sunken above sleepless circles, and hair recently cut into something that's a little untidy but stylish, short at the sides and back but long at the top, easily swept back to keep his stare, which tends to be unsettlingly direct, unobscured. Despite his approaching middle-age and the slouch of his body, his shoulders are broad, and he looks wiry but toned in build. His body language can swing from subdued and withdrawn to manic without much warning, but his voice is actually quite pleasant when he's calm, and even when agitated, he's more likely to speak more quickly than more loudly.

Today, Alexander is wearing a massive sweater in a mottled, almost camouflage color of green. It is not at all flattering, and not just because the sleeves are bunched up around the wrists, elbows, and shoulders in unsightly lumps. The sweater hangs down to his mid-thigh, and a few bits of the knit have started to come unraveled, waving small unattended threads in the air like a walking threat to people's OCD. Below the sweater, there's an unremarkable pair of faded blue jeans, and sturdy work boots that have clearly been made for walking through all manner of Stuff.
