There are two avenues for being a business-owner on the game: Either build one yourself, or take over an existing business. The current list of available businesses is below; if it's blank, there are none, and you can make your own.
To create your own business, please consider whether or not an existing or very similar business already exists. While we will allow for some replication of ideas (i.e., there can be a couple of bars or coffee shops), we reserve the right to put a limit on new business types. We will update the suggested concepts to include what types of businesses are not currently being accepted.
If you are creating a new character that will own the business, you should be sure to include the business type in their background (which will allow staff to contact you in case the business type isn't available).
Once your character is approved (whether new or existing), please [/jobs submit a request to staff] to ask for the business to be built. Remember that you are limited to three rooms per character, and these rooms need to include both your business and your home. So really stop and think about what rooms you need built, and whether or not some of them can be done via [/help/details details] within the room's description (e.g., you probably don't need an actual bathroom, just pretend). Please include the business name and the neighborhood.
Building in AresMUSH is essentially restricted to staff. Once your business has been created, you will be assigned as its owner. From there, you should do the following:
IC

Creating a page for your business on the wiki gives it a little more visibility. You can look at an example business for a finished product.

Once you hit save, you need to do just a little bit more.

Your page will now show up on the list of businesses and in its respective neighborhood page.
If you are taking over an existing business, please [/jobs submit a request to staff] to ask to be made the owner of the room(s). You can then make any changes to the description(s) as needed. You can also then go to the wiki page for your business, making any updates.
Make sure you remove the available
tag if it's still there, so it doesn't show up as a business people can take over.
If your business will be employing other PCs, make sure you add a little bit of info to the page about what roles you're looking for (e.g., bartender, waitress, janitor). You can then get your page to show up on the list of now-hiring businesses by adding the hiring
tag to your page.
If you are not looking for any PC employees, remove the hiring
tag.
