It was a long day at the Salon. People are starting to prepare for the holidays. Time to get their hairs done and their nails did. After work, Nicole is starving and heads to the Pizza Kitchen for a slice. She has no qualms about going out to eat by herself. Lowering herself into a booth with a sigh, the hairdresser stretches out her long legs. She's still wearing her work attire; black boots, long wide-legged black trousers, a long-sleeved black shirt with a ballet neckline and a pair of suspenders today. Her hair, meticulous of course. She looks up over the counter where the menu is, deciding on what she shall indulge in tonight.

Walking in, Devlin has that clear case of hat hair. A GHFD logo with a red cross is on a light jacket that he wears. The jacket is open and makes it easy to see his has Garryowen Irish Pub, Gettysburg t-shirt on. Blue jeans with a black leather belt and black field boots complete.. what passes for his look. Not exactly Mr. Fashion here. He seems to know a few people that he nods to a couple of folks as he heads to the counter. "Afternoon," he greets a few in passing.

Having made her decision, Nicole leaves her jacket on her seat, marking her territory, and heads to the counter to place an order. She ends up standing in line after Devlin. "It's a pizza kind of night, yeah?" Nodding up towards the pizzas being made, and those available to order by the slice, she asks, "what's your pick tonight?"

Devlin nods in agreement, "PHD man myself.. " And the counter person rolls their eyes. Devlin winks a bit, "Translation.. pile it higher and deeper.. I tend to go for the Supreme style to boot. How about yourself, Miss?" his manner and voice carrying that easy casual respectful tone.

It might be obvious that Nicole is trying to figure out just what 'PHD' might be. Her thoughts making her eyes squint a little. Is it Pepperoni... Ham... D. She gets stuck on the D. Thankfully not for long, as Devlin clears it up for her. She smiles and nods, then adds, "Nicole. Nicole Stein. Nice to meet you... and I think I might go for the..." Her eyes scan over the options again. "The barbecue chicken sounds pretty good right now. Filling, tasty, messy... works for me."

"My usual.." Devlin says to the counter guy, "And a Kona Long Board.." He then introduces himself, "Devlin McCloud, one of your friendly neighborhood paramedics." He smiles warmly, "I just got off shift. Was an easier one this time around."

Kailey pushes open the door and back the hood she wears. Looking around the place briefly she heads for the counter. Eyes going to the displayed menu she purses her lips thoughtfully and drums the fingers of one hand on her belly. The banter in front of her gains a brief glance, but her nose wrinkles at the bbq chicken. Devlin gets a once over as her eavesdropping picks up his profession.

"I just closed up shop for the night too. I own the Curl Up and Dye. Hair salon." Nicole's eyes look up to Devlin's hair. "In case you are ever looking for a place to get a trim. My day was insane, but, that's okay. Bills get paid when business is good." She smiles and when it is her turn to place her order, she gives it. "Two slices of the barbecue chicken, and a Dr. Pepper."

When the door opens up again, she turns to see who entered. She has seen Kailey a time or tow, but never really talked too much. Still, she offers a friendly smile.

A bit of a shrug on Devlin's part, "Yeah.. been putting in some over time. We had a few paramedics get hurt. Thought about going back to a high n tight.. but my cousin, Hera, threatened to do some nasty things with a dull rusty spoon to me in my sleep if I did..." He chuckles, "But I could use one. May be if I can get a couple days off." He looks over to the new comer and gives a polite smile. Of course seems the pizza place has gotten a bit of Devlin's business as the cook was already getting the personal pie ready for him.

Kailey vaguely recognizes Nicole herself and gives her a return smile and bob of her head. Suddenly it is her turn and she steps up . "Extra large double pep, sausage, olives, mushrooms, and extra cheese. To go. And a slice of your pepperoni that's ready. Don't need to heat it up," She says cheerfully as she pulls out a phone-wallet thing in neon pink. A familiar name has her head coming up from pulling out a card to pay. Devlin gets a smile as she says, "Hera's your cousin? She seems nice. I'm supposed to bring some of my art by soon. To her gallery." Then she passes her card over.

"I promise," Nicole says to Devlin as she waits for her food. "It won't take two days for a trim. Maybe just half an hour." She gives a wink to him then tilts her head. "I never knew a cousin so... particular about another cousins hair. She must really like it." She glances aside as Kailey orders, trying to control her eyes from growing too big. She might fail a bit. But for all she knows, Kailey might be taking the pizza home to a few people. Surely, possibly, maybe it isn't just for her. There is a brief inconspicuous glance towards the other womans belly though.

"Cool," he says to Kailey. "Always fun meeting those putting art in her gallery. Some I understand.. some.. well, less said the better." He then nods to Nicole, "Yeah, but a good ten hours of uninterrupted sleep comes first. When your taking care of someone in pain.. last thing they worry about is your hair." He then makes a bit of a grim joke, "Back in Afghanistan.. I was so admired some people wanted me to work on them so bad that I ..." He then grimaces.. "Yeah.. never mind, that was bad.. at least it didn't go out as a tweet.."

Kailey is getting the pizza for at least two. Technically. But given she's been seen with the giant known as Everett around town? Probably not just for herself. She accepts her card back, tucking it away, and then the slice on the paper plate. "Oh, can I get a cup for water please?" And accepts the smaller cup from the clerk. Moving to the drink dispenser she doesn't both with ice. "Hey, I don't understand some peoples art half the time," Kailey says to Devlin, chuckling faintly. "I like to think my art at least makes sense half the time. Given it's landscapes and surreal-scapes and space shit," She takes a bite of her pizza and leans against one of the half-wall partitions as she waits. "So," She swallows before continue, this time addressing Nicole, "Did I hear right? You own one of the nearby salons? I need to redye as you might be able to tell," And she lifts one faded pink and purple braid up, wiggling playfully in a faux-wave.

Nicole begins to smile and nod towards Devlin, but her expression sobers when he mentions Afghanistan. Her brow furrows though, a bit confused. Shrugging, she says, "f only more people could edit their tweets pre-tweet." She hands her cash over to pay for her meal, telling the server at the register, "keep the change," and collects a tray bearing a plate with her two slices and a cup of Dr. Pepper. She starts to head back to her booth with tray in hand, but stops when Kailey addresses her. "I do. I think the only?" She tilts her head, trying to think if there is another. "I own the Curl Up and Dye." She looks at the braid held up, then back again towards the belly. "I have some semi-permanent options that are safer for um... " She is not going to be one of those people who point out that a woman appears to be pregnant without the information first offered to her. "for um, hair. Less harsh. Less chemicals, you know..."

"I was a medic in the army," Devlin explains, "With the Eighty Second Airborne, twelve years active duty and did four tours total between Iraq and Afghanistan." And then he eats with a speed borne of someone that eats as if he knows it will be interrupted. "My personal filters sometimes revert to field at times.. still adjusting." He smirks, "I've managed to make some hard boiled cops blush a few times.."

"Natural probably is better when you're pregnant, huh? Absorbing things through the scalp and all?" Kailey apparently had not thought of that because her brows go up. Eyes wide and then her lips purse in a thoughtful manner. "That'd be great. I like to keep things colorful, but leave it up to the stylist. You can't dictate art, and hair is just another kind in my opinion," She replies cheerfully before taking another two bites of her pizza. A smirk around her mouthful and she chuckles as she chews. "More cops need to be made to blush," She says around her mouthful, hand held up to hide the see-food.

Nicole nods to Devlin as he speaks about his time in the military. At the end, she smirks as well and says, "I hang out in Kelly's gym. I've heard some things. Not sure I -can- blush anymore." She laughs, but then, as she resettles in her seat, close enough to keep up conversation, "but seriously. Thank you for your service." She starts in on her pizza then. One slice lifted and a bight taken, After chewing, and swallowing, she says to Kailey, "oh? You're pregnant? Congratulations! Then yes, even more reason to use safe dyes or pigments." She nods and takes another bite of pizza, eyes shifting between Devlin and Kailey as they talk. However, she realizes it is hair art Kailey is talking about. Smiling, she nods. "I tend to agree on that front, and love when I am able to go all out, you know? Usually, people tell me exactly what they want."

"I'm still in the guard.. so my hair has to be in regulation. It's a bit tighter than what the GHFD and PD allow. Not a lot of room to express one's self." He finishes his pizza and beer pretty fast, "Crap.. I have drill in a week.. damn.." he sighs, "I will have to get that hair cut sooner than later." About then his phone kicks off with a choral rendition of *Gooory Gory Gory, what A Helluva way to die..." he kills it quick as he looks at the display. "Sorry.. I need four hours of grumpy sleep before I deal with you again for more OT.." He takes a breath, "Looks like I better dash home to get that sleep before round 6 of.. no sleep for Devlin."

Kailey looks down at her belly and then back up, vaguely amused and smiling for it. "I promise, not just from eating too much carbs," She says with a giggle. "Well, then I'll be calling -you- soon. Cause I like going all out and seeing what the stylist does. And the pink and purple are really faded." It's true, they've gone pastel and some of her tips are that bleached-out color once more. "Though I do like my pinks, all color is fair game if you ask me." Another bite of her pizza and then she's moving to snag a napkin and wipe grease from her chin. As Devlin gives his phone dirty looks she chuckles and says, "No rest for heroes? At least the pizza is good?"

She's eaten most of her first piece of pizza when Nicole nods to Devlin. "It was nice meeting you. Oh.. here." She reaches into a pocket of her leather jacket and holds out a business card to Devlin. "Call when you get a bit of time and I will fit you in the schedule. Can't have you out of regulation." She smiles then to Kailey. "Ooh. I will have to see what I can come up with then!" She gets another card out, offering it to Kailey. Sure, they could just look it up, but she likes giving out the cards. "Same for you."

"Thank you." Devlin takes the card, "Nice meeting you both. Time for this ol'e trooper to make tracks for the rack."

Kailey was just about to ask for a card when she is presented with one. A bright smile and she takes it with a nod. "Wonderful. I'll call and make an appointment tomorrow then. So how long have you been in Gray Harbor?" She asks between another bite of her pepperoni. Which is slowly disappearing as she waits.

She waves Devlin off then looks to Kailey, taking a sip of her Dr. Pepper. "Depends. I was born and raised here. Left when I was 18 though, Came back a couple years ago. You?" Nicole picks off a piece of chicken, seeming to already be getting full.

"I actually only came here last August. Was here for a few months, left for winter, came back. But...settling down. I -must- be crazy, but I am," Kailey chuckles and shakes her head. Then her number is called and she turns to the counter and walks over to accept the box. "Thank you," She says before turning back to Nicole. "This place is something else. Well, better get this back while still hot. Nice talking with you. Talk tomorrow!" And she turns to head out with a chipper wave.

Nicole lifts the rest of her piece of pizza in a toast to Kailey as she gathers her order. "Take care," she says. "And I'll be looking forward to your call at the salon. Have a good night." When Kailey leaves, Nicole continues to sit at her booth, finishing her meal slowly as she relaxes before she too heads out.
