Social

Huckleberry Trailer Park, much like Elm that it is connected to, has a silent agreement to take care of things themselves. That agreement also includes No Cops. Elm Street and the Huckleberry have earned their reputation for a reason, and for the most part crime polices crime. What happens when there's something else? Exceptions get made.

At first nearby residents might night have noticed that the sun wasn't going down. Didn't it? Well it did but there is fire lighting up the evening sky leaving the park bathed in a brilliant glare and thick shadows. The smoke is billowing high in purple clouds as the trailer that belonged to a small handful of irresponsible, but generally well meaning persons is engulfed in flame. It also happens to be the now once residence of Gray Harbor's largest dealer who seems to have possibly left enough weed in the floor of the trailer to get the whole damn park stoned.

The hazards are apparent as the heat start so blister and spread: will this go out, and is there anything else in there that people need to be worried about. Nearby trailers are at risk and who knows what of the residents as this thing starts to get a bit out of control.

Vic Grey was sleeping. Sleeping and showering are basically the only things she does in that tiny little Airstream of hers. The bartender comes bursting out of the shiny silver trailer in pink boyshorts and her Smurfs tee, with nothing else but a messenger bag slung crossbody. Her hair is a tousled mess, and she looks about ready to punch whoever is making all the damned noise that woke her...up. "Oh shit." She digs into her bag for her phone and dials 9-1-1 to report the fire.

As they say some times luck can be on the side of places even like a trailer park. Devlin and the new guy he is breaking in just happen to be driving close enough by to see the smoke. The lights and siren are turned on as Devlin calls in the fire. As the truck pulls up, Devlin calls in the address to dispatch, and cuts the siren leaving the lights flashing as the truck makes its way in to get closer to the building where the fire is.

The smoke cloud is thick. Lot number 3, the double-wide trailer, is already burnt toast. Vic's smoke alarms are starting to go haywire from the smoke getting in. What doesn't bode well is the grill that's nearby, of the siding on Vic's airstream. The heat causing plants in the area to wither, and on the opposite side where there is a roof hatch fire is making for that electrical line above. Is it reaching for grabby hands? What are these civilians doing standing around? Why does everyone stand and look??!

Vic snaps into her phone, "This is Victoria Grey in slip 44 of the Huckleberry Mobile Homes. There's a fire in space...I think it's 4, and it looks like it's spreading fast. There may be people inside the trailer, send EMS and Fire right away." She doesn't stay on the line, she knows her name alone will twig on Ruiz's radar and he'll be sure people get sent out. Then she's jogging towards the flames while snapping off a text to her boss. What can she do? She can see if people need rescue, she can maybe use her mind to dig a firebreak. She can...maybe get totally stoned off the fumes.

(TXT to Joey) Vic : 911. Sumpter's trailer is on fire.

The EMS truck is stopping as Devlin hops out of the truck, "Murphy.. just park the damn truck up another 50 feet up. And start checking for causalities and bring me the other extinguisher." He opens a side compartment on the move to grab a fire extinguisher. Devlin then heads first to where the grill is to pull it out to the road. "Hey.. if anyone sees a propane bottle or something like a gas can," as he yells out, "Get them away from the fire."

(TXT to Vic) Joey : Mother fucker. Like that ain't some convalescence.

(TXT to Vic) Joey : Watch your ass in case they're trying to flush us out. Nicole's here. Keep me updated. Don't die.

(TXT to Joey) Vic : I think you mean...nevermind. Got it boss.

(TXT to Vic) Joey : I mean be careful

The civilians are all getting a contact high. hey if that trailer is going out it's going out the way it lived: getting people stoned to the gills. Well it'll take the edge off the terrible evening. The grill is hot but it rolls just fine getting the propane tank out of the immediate line of fire. Fire is peeling up at teh windows and it won't take terribly long for the center roof to cave in. It han't yet. You do fire training though Devil can assure structural integrity is going to go soon enough.

Next trailer over is starting to catch, and the dry lawn is not helping. Civilians around are trying to move their cars away from trouble. One about 32 years old, female has oven mitts on to protect herself as she is trying to get into the next trailer over that's catching at one corner. She is calling for help. it's going to take the FD a minute or so to get going. The fire is trying to spread in the other direction towards Vic's trailer.

Nearly Naked Vic. Surely there will be all new rumors about her tomorrow, as she jogs to where the flames are, blue eyes scanning for anything that might make the fire worse. "Anyone in there!!?" she shouts towards the burning trailer. That roof is clearly going to collapse, so she shifts to try and use her abilities to keep it from coming down. She darts a glance towards Devlin, "Usually three to five people crashing in that place, I don't know if they got out!"

Well, good bet that little bit of information just -made- Devlin's day. He taps the radio, "Going in, possible five people in burning structure." He then calls out, "Murphy!! burn and inhalation victims.. And we don't have time for procedure. Grab my mask on the double!!" With that, he uses physical to protect himself as he goes in blasting the entrance from the extinguisher and start looking in the first room.

The door is stuck but gives way. With the way the door unlocks and is shoved in it's a damn good thing Vic is holding up the damn roof. It's a lot of pieces for her to hold onto but there's focus and pure grit that seem to be working in her favour to say not today to this collapse.

Looking around it is hard to see if anyone is there. The floor is not going to hold for long but there are possible a few things to pull out of the bright glare: There's a hallway at one side, and to the left there's a closed door partly ajar probably to a master suite.

Vic grits her teeth, and feels the heat against her skin. She doesn't know how much longer she can hold it up, but if there are people alive in there, she used to be a cop. She hasn't been able to completely shuck that, despite now playing for the other team. She has a little of the mental gift, but not enough to find people without being in line of sight. She has to focus, concentrate on each bit of roof that is slowly breaking down, hanging on to the separate pieces. "ANY LUCK? HURRY MAN!"

Devlin does a quick check.. and his face said it all.. -Son of a bitch..- He comes out the front, "No one here.." He then moves towards the trailer where the woman headed, "Muphry!! Move your ass, double time over with my mask," Devlin barks out. He looks to where Murphy should be coming from with his respirator as he looks to see if the woman is outside of her trailer on the side closest to the trailer he just left. "Anyone over here?" he calls out. A quick glance over his shoulder looking for Murphy is made.

Thanks to Vic holding the roof up Devlin's able to stay low as the heat blisters all around him like an oven. There is more fire than there is roof and it's then when he gets out Vic can feel it start to just come apart and cave in ; the sensation rippling back to her being like picking up a molten jigsaw puzzle with both hands crumble apart. Also? Standing this close to the damn heat is NOT fun, let these two tell you all about it.

Devlin does come out empty handed.

The woman with the oven Mitts has managed, turns out smartly, to punch out the glass to get to the lock to try to get the door open. It's the neighbor no one ever really hears from. Some are private. The young woman, medium skinned, and trying not to panic says briefly, "Old couple. Candice and Nathan. I didn't see them come out. No one answered the phone." She moves through seeing Murphy run towards the trailer, she runs down the steps to make room.

The Fire department is audible on that hose truck. Sirens are never something one wants to here but today they might be the cavalry. There's a second set as what sounds like another medical team with with them.

With the word that no one is in Greg's trailer and Devlin coming back out, Vic lets go of the roof with her mind, slumping a bit from the exertion and holding her hands up to shield her face from any sparks and debris when it comes down. She turns to look where the EMT is heading next, then sweeps her eyes towards her own trailer for a moment. She's pretty sure anything illicit that Sumpter had stashed in his home is now charcoal for the next community barbeque, and making her feel far less upset about the fact her own home looks like it might burn to the ground. She looks like she might go try to save her airstream, when that girl mentions the old couple. "Goddamit." She runs after Devlin, preparing to try and keep things intact for the EMT to evacuate the survivors.

Devlin grabs his respirator as he grumbles, "You run like a leg." It is expertly put on in a hurry followed by his going to the trailer, "Got away from the fire, Ma'am." He says to the woman before he presses forward to enter into the adjacent trailer. He taps the radio, "Collapsing structure, no one inside. Got two in the next lot over possible." And with that, he goes in, ready to use his extinguisher to make holes in the fire. If he heard the hose truck come in.. hard to tell. Leaving Murphy to get things set up.

Vic senses trouble overhead. The electrical lines are getting damaged. If they break and fall, live wires are going to make everything worse. Her eyes snap to the transformer box that controls the flow of electricity into the trailer park. She flicks a hand in that direction, feeling out the workings of the mounted device. With a snap of her fingers she snaps the line fuse in half, killing the power to Huckleberry in one swift motion. No more current travels through the lines inside the park.

The neighbor ('Ms. Oven Mitts') doesn't disappear but is trying to help get the neighbors a safe distance away. They may not have a homeowner's association here but they have a community and at least a few people with some level of sensibility to help evacuate persons. The truck is pulling up and procedures are happening swiftly to connect to the nearest hydrant and assess the area.

The new trailer is heaps better than the old one they just left which is more of a flaming bowl now. That is not to say that this trailer is not on fire. It's not a blazing inferno like its neighbor but there is smoke in the building. The fog is thick but there is the 70 year old couple passed out in the living room. He's passed out on the couch mapping and the woman is on the floor whom Devlin got a mental ping off of.

OUTSIDE Vic is picking up a nasty buss of distress from the overhead electrical. With good tactical placement she shut the service off. As the team rolls up with their hoses there is a HUGE scare as teh line snaps and... nothing. What was anticipated to be a hail of sparks made worse with a water hose is entirely ablated.

Devlin gets to the couple. He takes a breath and then uses his mask to give the old woman a few good breath's followed by her husband. He then crouches to pick up the old man and looks to see if the woman is getting up, "Come on.." He coughs a little, "Please get up, we need to get you out of here.. I've got your husband."

Vic moves to help Devlin haul people out. She's probably inhaled way more smoke than she should, especially considering her recent lung surgery. "Hurry, this way!" she calls through the door, holding a hand out for the old woman if she needs help.

The three of them manage to get the two occupants out. Murphy is ready with the mask when they get there and a staging area safely outside of immediate danger on the lawn. The truth is the husband is not looking good and they both look rather like a dead fish. What they are able to do is revive the 76 year old woman and get her stable. Murphy is still trying CPR until EMS arrives.

These are the hard truths about fires being nasty, but definitely saving one is better than saving 0.

The neighbors continue to watch horrified and amazed in the contact buzz that is Gray Harbor's other largest drug dealership close its doors. Several tenants took scorching damage insurance may or may not be amicable to fix. Vic is going to want to sleep somewhere else. At least she has the keys to somewhere else close by. Devlin and Murphy are going to be reprimanded and lauded for breaking protocol and quick decisive action, and also wind up with many wrapped foods left on their porches and back at work for them.

Vic helps get Candice away from the burning mobile home, beginning to hack and cough herself from breathing in the smoke. She doesn't have a respirator like Devlin does. Or protective clothing. Or pants. What the fuck is she doing playing hero? She could have just moved her trailer and let the rest burn. Dammit. She might also be spending at least a little while sitting on the back step of an ambulance with an oxygen mask over her face and a blanket wrapped around her. Shows over kids. At least she has go bags stashed at the gym and the twofer. A text gets sent off to her boss again.

(TXT to Joey) Vic : No one was in Sumpter's trailer. Whatever he had stashed there is charcoal. My place is damaged, gonna need to crash at the gym tonight after the paramedics clear me. Couple people were hurt, they're working on an old guy still, dunno if he'll make it. Smoke inhalation.

(TXT to Vic) Joey : You need food I got that lasagna thing in a bowl in the fridge you can have. It's from last night. Still good. You know where I keep the booze. I'll be by later.

(TXT to Vic) Joey : Get out of the damn smoke, limp lungs <3

(TXT to Joey) Vic : Who made the lasagna? I don't eat random anonymous lasagna, Kelly!

Devlin and Murphy work together on the couple. With the old woman, the pair gets her breathing unassisted and conscious. As to the old man, "Come on..." as he works on him, "Don't let the bastard win.. It's not your time." He keeps at it and then exclaims, "Yes.. that's it.. come on a few more beats.." Anyone with the sight can see as Devlin did compressions he used glimmer on the old man, "Yes.. keep going.." Devlin gets excited seeing the strip as he communicates with the hospital and administers medications now. "That's the way.. tell death.. NOT To DAY."

(TXT to Vic) Joey : I did and it's damn good. Also I don't blame you.

(TXT to Joey) Vic : There was enough weed in the smoke I'll probably eat all the towels and the turnbuckles off the ring when the munchies hit. Stay safe, boss.

The man does get a heartbeat back. The breathing is shallow and they're going to be shuttling him to the hospital and on a ventilator tuit suite. For now he is alive. As the chaos starts to be reigned into control the Woman with the Oven Mitts(tm) walks over to Devlin, Vic, and Murphy. Though tired she solemnly says, "Thank you. For helping them. And us."

When the company captain comes over to Devlin to issue the part one of a chew out, Devlin replies, "That trailer.. looked like someone tossed in a malotov into the living room of that trailer." Then the chew out part one comes, Devlin just nods, "I'll keep that in mind.."

Devlin smiles to the woman with the oven mitts, "Just doing my job ma'am." and he continues to support till EMS is released from the scene.
