- Local Born and Bred - The Kelly family is local to Gray Harbor. They're kind of a wrong-side-of-the-tracks group of n'er-do-wells.
- Loyal Ex-Con - He did 3-5 years without complaint instead of giving up his boss. Loyalty with him goes far and he'll go the extra mile to repay it.
- Man of His Word - Lies are for the weak. He uses few words, but he sticks by the ones he uses.* Stay Down! - Joey Lee's a brawler, and a damn fine boxer with a mean left cross.

Joey Lee Kelly grew up on the wrong side of Gray Harbor. Sure they had a big house but the money ran out to take care of it long before their dad ran out on mom. That's alright though. To cover costs siblings, cousins, ...he doesn't know who that one person was that lived there for a year to this day but they fixed the back porch up alright. In any case they never had much but they had one another.
When you don't have anything though you learn to grow up fighting to defend what little you have and sometimes get what you need, and Joey got good at it - Real good. His twin, Jaime, got the sense of humor, but Joey never took kindly to the digs about his family or their condition or the things that were said (that were true) about their mom. He doesn't talk about how or when she passed, but sometimes he still talks to her ghost that floats around attached to the house. That's normal right?
The truth was they needed money and Joey Lee was good at two things: Fighting and...well...ending fights. For a while he started getting damn good as a boxer, and could have been great if he had better discipline. It was Felix that saw potential in him and offered to help him out...for a favor. The truth was food needed to get on that table and some debts needed to go away and he helped make that happen. Sometimes Felix helps out other people and they ain't so respectful about his generosity. That's when Joey or someone's sent to pay them a visit and explain to them Felix has needs and feelings too and that need is getting paid back, owed and interest, on fucking time. And his feelings? Well sometimes when trust is damaged other things get damaged as a result.
The police have always taken an interest in what the bossman has going on. During a sting operation Joey Lee got caught. They offered him a deal to roll over on his boss. He told them to go get fucked and did the 3-5 for assault without budging once. While in jail, he might be smaller than some of those assholes but he learned to run that yard really damn fast in a eat or be eaten world. In return the bossman's always helped out his family. Sometimes a sibling needs work and he'll toss some their way. Joey gets paid damn well so now that he's out? He's making sure the boss gets the same courtesy from others.
That aside? He's not an unreasonable guy. There are rules, and people are expected to live to their word. Everyone's got a family to take care of. It's not personal, it's just business, and business is good. He's still got a soft spot for other kids who have it really rough like he did.
