Anytime his left arm is exposed, one can see a tattoo of a vulture skeleton rendered like a medical journal drawing. Any further removal of his shirt would reveal three more vultures and a shield-shaped insignia.

- Military: Old service member? Leon spent a decade nearly constantly deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan.
Leon Gyre led a hard life from the word Go. His parents were a pair, and not much else. Dysfunctional, alcoholic, violent. The usual sort you see in a trailer park. Leon grew up with this, one parent just as likely to be in jail for something as the other. He hated it. He hated them. It was all he could do to find distraction. He kept to himself, stayed as invisible in school as he did as home. He wanted out of this white trash life.
Finally, he found his out. Military. On his 18th birthday, and unknown to literally anyone, he enlisted with the Army. He didn't care he only had a month left of school to graduate. He was gone. It was a god-send. He took to it completely. The scrawny, invisible kid became a ripped and cut machine. All the energy he had never had anywhere to put went into his training, and he excelled. Not soon after, it was straight to Iraq. It was a shitshow, just like anyone would remember. Hard fighting against guerrilla forces resistant to the government the U.S. had helped out in place. After a few years of that, it was off to Afghanistan.
One day, separated from his unit by heavy suppression fire, Leon was trying to find cover. He was terrified, panicking. He didn't want to die. He'd go back to the damn trailer park, just don't let this be the end, he was thinking. He kicked in a door, and... three men, insurgents, armed with Russian rifles, wheeled on him. He screamed... Then they screamed... in abject terror... He pulled the trigger, he gunned them down. They didn't fire a shot. They had been frozen by his fear.
He lived. And it was terrible. He'd shot men before, he'd suffered the guilt and the pain of losing that bit of humanity before, but it was nothing like that night after it first happened. He wanted to die, and he had fought so hard just hours before to mean he lived.
But weird things kept happening like that, and he started to figure out that it was actually his own will doing it. He learned. He used. He needed to stay alive. He needed to succeed, keep his unit alive, keep the fight going. He could understand the locals pretty well now, way easier than before with his crude Kurdish education. He could get them to trust him, and feel when they were lying to him. Then every night, the dreams, the suffering, the negative grasp around his emotions would take hold and it took everything he could not to scream himself to sleep. Before long, Intelligence noticed. They started deploying him not as infantry, but recon, teaching him numbers, photography, everything he needed. He could get in, get out, and strangely, no one could put the pieces together.
It took its toll, however every time. Dreams, suicidal thoughts, the pain he felt from people's minds he read that had lost loved ones, or were suffering their own fear and crisis. Finally, after a decade of almost constant deployment, he decided he was done. He was honorably discharged, moved back stateside, figured he'd use his GI Bill to get his GED and some college level courses. He picked a trade that was a tad rarer, but wasn't going anywhere soon. His parents were dead, he found out, probably about a year before he came back. Lit cigarette. Died just as classy as they lived.
Sure, he thought, the negative cloud his parents created wasn't there anymore. Why not start back up in his home town? He started a business, got a small place to live, got a van, some tools. Now all he needed was... something to deal with all the nightmares.
Large. That's the first thing anyone would think. Not only was he a good few inches over six feet, Leon was a muscular man, built like he'd lived a hard life. His hair was close-cropped, practical, but not quite military in bearing. His eyes are a soft blue, just as prone to hard focus as they were to wary glances. His chin is strong, his face not unattractive, a bit of stubble there that seemed well kept. Most often, he wears clean, well fitted clothes, prone to casual t-shirts and workman's jeans, but clearly a man that takes care of his appearance from habit, discipline. On the third finger of his left hand appears to be a silver-colored ring.
