It's past two in the afternoon on a Tuesday in November and Irvriya had texted Ciprian to see if he wanted to grab a late lunch at the Waffle Shoppe. Apparently his sister ran off of sugary syrup and pastries. Which surprised no one. She's seated at a booth with her phone out, trying to get through a back log of emails that she needed to catch up with. Her hot chocolate's already in front of her with a mound of whipped cream on it. Now she's just waiting.

It's slightly later than they'd said when Ciprian actually arrives, running a hand back through his hair as he looks around to spot his sister. It doesn't take him long, and as he starts over toward her there's a little apologetic look. "Sorry," he says once he gets close enough, sliding into the booth across from her. "Meeting ran long. I'm glad you didn't wait for me." There's a nod to the chocolate as he says this, though it's said fondly.

Stepping in to the Waffle Shop a few moments after Ciprian, is Devlin. He is looking perhaps a bit better than he did the other night. His movements and expression at times betray a level of tiredness that he's stubbornly pushing through. His eyes take in the Waffle shop as he looks for a place to sit. He walks in towards a table that suits him. He pauses as he approaches where Minerva is but sees she has company, just offers a slight smile and nod as he goes past towards the table that is open.

"Cip!" Minerva gives a smile when she sees her brother. She shakes her head, that raven hair of hers going either way, "No need to apologize, I know that things can do that." she states. "Have a seat. I ordered a drink because I was freezing." she muses. "I didn't order any food yet." she adds. She does look to Devlin when he comes in and there's a bit of a smile as she recognizes him, "Mister McCloud." she nods to him as he goes by. "I apologize about the meeting the other night. It usually isn't that exciting." she tells him.

Ciprian settles in, resting his forearms on the table and lacing his fingers together. "I think I'm in the mood for something with a river of syrup," he replies wit ha little smile -- hey, it's small, but it's something! He starts to say more, but Devlin's arrival distracts him. He looks that way, studying the other man for a moment or two before he inclines his head in a polite greeting, accompanied with a, "Hello."

The Mister catches Devlin a little off guard as he pauses in his steps. "It is ok, Doctor Kosimar. Life does not always play fair, Doctor." His tone in saying Doctor does carry respect. He then greets the other man as he offers his hand, "Devlin McCloud, hopefully a future EMT here in town assuming I get through the hoops for Certification for this state. And a river of syrup sounds like a wonderful temptation that should be surrendered to."

"Rivers of syrup are fantastic." Minerva tells Ciprian with a smile. Then there's a look between her brother and Devlin, "Ciprian, Devlin is new to town I believe." she states. "Devlin this is my brother, Ciprian Kosimar. He's a lawyer that works with the local DA." she tells him. Then she gives a chuckle, "It was a bit of a blind side for me. But we're still looking for Steve. Hopefully I can work on it more this evening." she states.

"Nice to meet you," Ciprian replies when his sister introduces him, reaching to shake the offered hand a couple of times. "Apparently I missed all the fun." Coupled with his rather stoic expression -- that may be a default state, considering it's slid back there from the slight smile of a moment before -- it's hard to tell whether that statement is a joke or not, but it might be. "Good luck with the certification. We need as many EMTs as we can get."

Nodding to Minerva, Devlin replies after the hand shake. "Most plans fall apart at first contact, Doctor. And DA Kosimar, a pleasure to meet you." He winks, "I promise to behave... as well as any paratrooper may behave.. after all, it is a reputation we do live up to. Now if I can behave long enough to get through the state certifications." A bit of a chuckle on his part. "Thank you, I do not wish to disrupt your time together. Family first after all."

"Yeah, we do. Gods only know when I'm going to be a bloody mess somewhere again." Minerva mutters quietly. She ended up banged up a lot. "You did. You'll have to come to the next one to meet people if you aren't getting ready for court and things." she tells her brother with a smile. Then she looks to Devlin, turning a little as she does, "Oh you aren't interrupting. Are you settling in alright so far?" she asks him.

Minerva's first words have Ciprian's gaze turning back to her, and there's just the slightest raise of an eyebrow -- almost imperceptible, really. But not quite. However, all he says is, "I hope I can make it." He looks back up to Devlin then, echoing, "You aren't. Please." He scoots over, gesturing for the other man to join them if he wants to do so. "I'm not quite the DA yet, though, just a peon. Maybe one day. Just don't tell my boss I said it." This does elicit a smile, if brief.

"Thank you both, and ambition is good for the soul." Devlin says as he takes a seat. "I am still looking for a nice place. Just need the basics and a studio area to practice Tai Chi Chaun and Kung Fu in." He pauses, "Carport... Don't think I'll need a garage.. or does the snows get that bad here on the coast? Between studies and getting over that flu, I've had to slow down some." He removes his hat and folds it while managing to avoid damaging the bill to slide into a coat pocket. Oh.. and thank you for letting me know about Steve, Doctor. And if you need a good medic.. I'm not to bad so they say.. back at the Oh Four."

Minerva just gives a bit of a look to her brother, but she doesn't say anything. She usually called him when she ended up in bad situations. Then she nods along with Ciprian, "Yes, feel free." she tells Devlin. Then she watches the man talk for the moment and there's a bit of a smile, "Yeah, the flu was killer, but it'll go away soon." she states. "Steve freaked everyone out, but we'll have to see about caring for him until things calm down." she admits with a tired look. Then she gives a smile, "Medics are always needed in this town, so it'll be good to have another."

Lunch to some, breakfast to others who had stayed up entirely too late! At least she's dressed more casually than normal. A pair of pants over a loose fitting sweater, more a nod to the chill than any fashion statement. Even if the material is cashmere. Closing the door behind her, Erin gives a brief glance around to try and decide what it is that smells so good.

What smells good? Rivers of syrup! At least, that's one of the things that smells good in here. Probably coffee as well, for some people. Ciprian included. He is sitting with Minerva and now Devlin, and they're conversing casually, though he has leveled a certain look on his sister. However, despite whatever it is that had caused that look, he does smile at her last words, nodding in agreement. "And it's handy to know one personally, just in case. Maybe you can get a frequent flier discount, Riya." That is a joke, though, as evidenced by the widening smile and the obvious affection in his tone.

"Something about frequent bandages or stitches sound sounds a bit off.." Devlin smirks a bit. "And that coming from a guy that likes jumping out of a perfectly good aircraft into complete darkness is fun." He then hmms, "Hope they have good hot tea here."

Minerva looks to the scars that run up and down her hands and arms now post possession and there's a look to her brother, "I know." she tells him. "And yeah, having an actual medic on speed dial might be good." she muses. Though when the door opens there's a look up and a nod to Erin, "Erin." she greets her. "Sorry about the other night at Seraphim. I need to send a mass email out apologizing for the ruckus." she admits. Then she looks to Devlin, that one pale eye of hers holding an amused look, "A lot of us get injured around here and sometimes hospitals ask too many questions." she chuckles.

"Steve? I know Russell cause quite a stir no matter what Steve did. Vyv is probably still angry over his throwing dirty tissues at him." A shudder at the memory. Erin just introduces herself into the conversation with something of an apologetic smile. Apologetic surely, but she does it anyway. Instead of going to the counter she wanders over to the table, a smile for Minerva and a polite nod for the others she doesn't recognize as readily. "Nothing that happened there was your fault." Her eyes drop to those scars on her hands and arms. "I wish you would have let me take care of those for you." Her voice drops slightly, "No scars that way."

"Mm hmm." Ciprian nods, leaning back against the booth as he looks from one to the other of his companions. There's a glance down to the scars on Minerva's arms, as well, and his smile fades again, but there's something to distract him from it when Erin arrives. He looks up, lifting a hand to her in reply to her nod. "Hi," he says. "Ciprian Kosimar." He quiets then, another glance at the scars in question, before he turns away and gestures to one of the servers.

Devlin greets Erin, "Hello, sorry we did not get to meet before. I'm Devlin McCloud.. and for some reason I get the feeling my job could be endanger around you." He chuckles a bit, perhaps a joke. "And yes, that evening was chaotic.. may be the future ones will be less interesting, I hope."

"Russel is already on my shit list for what he pulled with Vyv. That's not a way for anyone to act when they are a guest somewhere." Minerva states with a nod to that. "Steve just scared a few people. Wasn't an asshole." she adds. "But Rusty..." she huffs. Then there's a look back to her scars and then to Erin, "I tend to keep them to remind me. Plus if people keep using their powers to heal me it's going to alert them more." she frowns. Then she shakes it off. "Erin, this is my brother, Ciprian. Ciprian, this is Erin Addington." she introduces the two of them.

"A pleasure to meet the both of you, I'm Erin Addington." The last name of Kosimar is noted and she looks between the two for resemblances. "Ciprian, Devlin," opting for more informality of first names than last. "Please call me Erin. Or maybe our jobs could complement the other? I'm hoping to eventually be on the staff at the hospital as a nurse in the Emergency Department."

That said, she smiles at Minerva, "Maybe he hasn't been taught, or perhaps there are social niceties he hasn't been taught as of yet." Understanding lights her eyes and Erin smiles more gently. "I know what you mean. I'd never want to alert them more. But never would I willingly leave my friends to suffer pain if I could fix it." She glances around and moves to join an adjacent table to remain nearby. The menu is immediately brought by a staff. She doesn't order yet.

The server comes, and Ciprian orders a coffee, as well as some pancakes, perhaps to drown in the aforementioned rivers of syrup. Once ordered, he turns back, and Erin's last name is noted as well, though he just says, "Erin, nice to meet you as well. Good to see we have so many new medical personnel." There's a hint of dry humor there, but it does sound good-natured. It's then that his coffee arrives, and he takes it with a nod of thanks, taking a sip as he regards the others from above the rim.

The door of the waffle shop opens, bringing with it one Yule whom is dressed in a red button down shirt, a pair of dark gray jeans, and ankle high boots. Over it is worn a navy blue coat, left unbuttoned, to help stave off the autumn chill. Tucked under his left arm is a folded up newspaper, and he heads directly towards the counter to start settling in. That trip buys him a few moments of time to observe, those brown eyes flickering over to the busy table. Erin draws a flicker of recognition, a faint dip of his head, but his attention? It lingers for a few moments on Ciprian, brow furrowed in a look that is trying to remember something.

Devlin first takes a moment to order hot tea, waffles, and sausage. "That works for me." His comment then directed to Erin. "And it sounds like I have a lot to figure out and learn beyond the.. skill set I do have. Still do not understand the them part.. and powers." He then hmms, "For the first time I am starting to feel like a rookie again.."

Minerva gives a bit of a smile to Erin, "Yeah, I know." she tells her with a nod of her head. She's still nursing her hot chocolate. The one eyed woman gives a look over those gathered and then to the door when it opens and Yule arrives, the youngest of the Kosimar family doesn't recognize him, but she gives a nod of greeting. She then looks to Devlin and there's a soft shake of her head, "Nothing wrong with learning. If you need help, you've got plenty of people around to help." she states.

"I've been working on getting my nursing degree for awhile now, just getting closer to finished time." Erin clarifies a little. She does place an order also, "Half hot chocolate, half cappuccino in a large to-go cup and pecan waffles. No whipped cream on anything. Side of bacon, crispy." At the arrival of Yule, she dips her head with a smile, recognizing him also. Dropping her gaze ack to Devlin, she tries to give reassurances. "There are people you can talk to, I could put you in contact with, if you're interested in learning more about the healing and all." She had lowered he voice some while speaking with Devlin, but when she looks back to Minerva, she's wearing a sort of impish smile. "I know you'd do the same. I know all you went through that day over the Billy Gohl.. thing." She frowns a touch. "You'll always be someone I want on my side, Minerva."

"Ah; congratulations, then," Ciprian replies to Erin's first words as he sets down the coffee cup. "That's a big achievement." His head tips to the side as he listens to the conversation without adding anything more, and a slightfrown touches his face as his gaze moves from one to the other, though it's more thoughtful than anything else. His attention is caught, however, by Yule's sudden scrutiny, and his eyes turn that way as well. He looks a little bit confused, until suddenly his expression clears. "Wow," he says, "I haven't seen you since high school. Yule, right?"

Yule slides down into the stool he'd angled for at the counter, and his peering glance towards Ciprian is broken up when the waitress comes over asking for his order. "Bacon and eggs. Coffee, black." Not a mention of waffles, poor soul, but the medical examiner is angling for a lighter meal today. His paper is untucked from under his arm and placed upon the counter, and then he gives another sparing glance towards that table. This time those eyes catch Minerva and what he'd been trying to place? Clicks just as his name is said. "Ciprian Kosimar. Jesus, it's been twenty years. I was beginning to think once people turned thirty-five in the city, they kick you out." A brief and amused smile flashes to his features, and with that bit of knowledge? Now his brown eyes shift, studying each a touch longer.

Nodding to Erin, "Thank you." He then looks over at the man that Crispian is talking to and gives a friendly nod to the man, thus avoiding an interruptions for that. Devlin's attention more focused to the table now, "Any help to allow me to learn more about what is going on is appreciated. I hope it provides me with a few answers about things I have experienced in the past. Starting to realize some events may have other than I thought."

Minerva gives a bit of a nod to Erin, "I know. I just...don't like being healed in..." she trails off when Yule approaches and starts talking. Going quiet. She wasn't sure how much everyone knew around here. She gives a look to her brother though and there's a smile to him, but she doesn't interrupt him. Though she looks to Devlin and listens to him, "A lot of things happened to some people when they were in the military. My ex was in the marines and he had one or two incidents while deployed." she admits. "So I'm sure we can find people with similar situations." she nods to that.

The door opens as doors do, and in walks a petite blonde with long hair, a pair of yellow mary jane heels. Lucinda Lapin wears dark blue skinny jeans, a white tee with with a deep v-neck that shows enough of her lingerie to suggest it's expensive, and a couple of delicate rose gold necklaces, one a vintage locket. She wears a cropped moto jacket in washed leather, closed asymmetrically with a zipper. Luce pauses on the threshold, then continues in, sliding off a pair of cat eye sunglasses, completely unnecessary in the drizzle of an overcast day. She has a couple of pine needles in her hair, completely incongruous with the rest of her look. She walks across to the counter and takes a seat, sliding the sunglasses back on. "If anybody sees a full size cartoon character or a grizzly bear, just throw something at me." And then she crosses her arms, puts her head down, and orders a, "Belgian waffle, extra butter. Real, not that whipped oil crap."

"Thank you, I appreciate that." Erin tells Ciprian and settles into her booth nearby the others. She listens to the greetings from the two, sort of guessing on ages between them. There's no questions asked, but it was nice to hear their fond greetings. Devlin is given an encouraging nod. "I have a few friends that can help you out, for sure." Dark eyes move to Minerva and she nods, trying to portray her understanding. "No, I get it, I do. Just know it's on offer if you need."

Ciprian looks around in a slightly exaggerated manner, before he leans toward Yule and puts a hand next to his mouth, stage whispering, "Only the lucky ones." He keeps an admirable deadpan while he says it, though -- there's only a little upturn of his lips at the end. "How've you been? Didn't you move out East after high school? Or am I misremembering?" Something mentioned at the table catches his attention though, and he turns back to his sister. There's a little softening of his expression as he looks at her, but whatever he might have said is preempted by Lucinda's arrival. He looks up, eyebrows raising at the statement, though he replies, "Will do."

Yule's newspaper is left on the counter to hold down his particular seat, casting just a brief glance towards Lucinda as she settles near it. "That," He murmurs as one dark brow lifts upwards, a brief glance of mischief settling in his gaze. "Sounds like a very rough night." He crosses the handful of paces required to get to Ciprian's table, though his attention on his trip is cast between Devlin and Erin, listening to their shared hints at their professions, or at least aspirations. "Won't interrupt," He promises, even as his hand is extended towards the tall man. "But good to see an old face. And that must make you," It's to Minerva he looks, studying her with a touch of curiosity. "Doctor Kosimar. I'd love to catch up sometime later, yeah?" His offering is to both Ciprian and Minerva, "Yeah. Twenty years in NYC. Just got hired on here as a new medical examiner about a month ago. It'd be good to make a few connections."

Devlin just listens for now as he gets his tea. A lot more going on than he realized it seems. His attention moves from person to person as they speak. He seems comfortable with the situation as he waits to have something useful to say.

There's a moment that the Jewish woman watches Lucinda, then Minerva smiles to Erin, "It's what makes you a good person." she tells her in a soft tone. Then there's a look to Yule when he's crossing across and the woman doesn't interrupt her brother or the reunion of sorts. But when Yule addresses her there's a curious look up, "Did the missing eye give it away?" she asks. Most of the people that went to school with Ciprian knew she lost it, but never the why of it. "Sure, I could sit down and talk sometime." she nods to that. "And welcome back to town." she adds. Devlin gets a look and a small smile when he's just keeping track.

When someone 'will do's her, Luce raises a hand, and gives the room a silent thumps up. And then the blonde's back to resting her eyes. After Yule's trundled off, her left hand creeps out, fingers walking across the counter (yes, still attached to her arm, in case you're a Veil traumatized person reading this), and she surreptitiously snags the paper. Some fluttering happens and it's relieved of its crossword, then put back in exactly the same position it started the moment in, saving Yule's place.

" You're not interrupting, Yule." His name coming back to her finally, mostly from the banter of it, and the references. "Just talking about medical references and stuff. Just didn't want to bore everyone else." Hearing the compliment from Minerva, Erin gives her a smile fillled with warmth. "Thank you." Her drink arrives so she concentrates on that for the moment and listens to the conversation around her.

"It's good to see you, too." Ciprian reaches to shake the offered hand, before he lets go and shifts a little bit in his seat to pull out his wallet. A card is produced from it, which he hands over to Yule. "Of course," he says, "Any time. Give me a call." Judging by the writing on the card, he is currently working as a lawyer in the DA's office. He looks from Yule to Minerva then, and again there's a little smile as he continues, "My sister'd probably be a more interesting connection than me, unless you're planning on breaking any laws." That is probably when he becomes useful. He reaches for his coffee as he shakes his head, turning to Erin. "Not boring at all. Of course, I'm used to sitting and listening to lawyers, so I might not be the one to ask." There's a little self-deprecation there, though again, a thread of humor underlying it.

"Nah," Yule reassures Minerva, flashing her a brief smile, "It was the good eye. Far to shrewd and attentive to not be a doctor. That plus being next to Ciprian? Deductive reasoning." The man's love of his paper must surely be quite strong, because he'd been keeping an eye on it just in the periphery. She probably would have gotten away with it too, if it wasn't for those meddling pages that require so much fluttering to get removed. "You ever want to chat medical thoughts, Erin, and I'm always all ears." Her own name is remembered without a hint of pause for need to recall it.

That hand is shaken, the card taken, and he casts a quick glance over it. "Me? No. But Noelle or Ellis," Two of his siblings, quite a bit younger than he. There's a soft note of affection despite the thought. "Anyway. My food will be ready, and I'm starving." His head dips into a graceful nod to them all before he turns to head back to his stool, sliding into it. His fingers curl around his paper, and for a minute? It seems like nothing at all will happen. And then, with a twist of his wrist Yule seeks to give a square, firm smack right on Lucinda's hand with that rolled up paper.

Devlin smiles a bit seeing the smack on the hand. His food arrives and with a degree of quiet efficiency Devlin tears through the waffles at a rate that might have some wondering if he is even tasting the food. Yet, it seems to be enjoying it. He pauses for a moment to speak, "How close are you Erin to getting your degree?" A few more bites taken. His next question, "When would a good time to meet with either of you about my observations, Erin, Doctor Kosimar?" and again back to eating.. another question perhaps forming in his mind.

"I'm just doing work with the police and things. I shut my private practice down to pursue my occult studies." Minerva states, "But can help out if needed." she tells Yule and the others." She then looks to Yule and there's a bit of a smile, "It's just my natural reaction. Apologies." she murmurs to him. Then she's settling up her bill, "Devlin, you can stop by the shop whenever you like or we can talk via text anytime. I keep a pretty erratic schedule, but if I have people down to meet I can do that." she smiles. "I need to get going though. Cip, I'll be by before I leave for Tel Aviv, Ashira wanted something from there." she muses as she stands. "You guys stay safe." she dips her head to them.

"Ow, dick." There's little venom in that, because, let's face it, a thwap with a newspaper is totally fair game after she got busted snagging his crossword. Said crossword has since disappeared somewheres. Also that didn't hurt at all, so the ow is more of an expression. She doesn't move otherwise, except to turn her head toward the dark-haired chatty one, her hand retreating out of thwapping range. She sniffs once, tips her head to eye the man. "Nice catch."

Waffles are a quick make. Luce doesn't have long to wait before a plate clatters lightly down next to her head, with the soft-voiced interruption to alert her. Not that she was sleeping, but it's hard to tell with those sunglasses on, and maybe she's a regular here. Maybe, sometimes, she is asleep like that. She straightens up, stuffing a folded sheet of newspaper into her pocket — it was under her elbow on the counter. She waves off anything additional and reaches for a wrapped packet of silverware, and jams that into her jacket pocket as well, just as soon as the wait staff's back is turned. She fishes a crumpled bill, drops a twenty on the counter, lightly stained and smelling of strawberries.

She glances over her shoulder as Minerva moves to leave, says nothing, makes note.

"I's like that very much. Most times I feel woefully inadequate, but I've not had a lot of time to put a lot of it to practices." Offered to Yule with a warm smile. Dipping her head when he excuses himself, she goes back to the conversation in the nearer vicinty, just watching him return to his seat for a moment, outright laughter when he accosts the woman next to him. Surely he had a resaon? Directing her attention back to Devlin, she confesses, "I've finished my schooling. I'm just trying to get the nerve up to actually apply. And to decide exactly what I want to do. I'm currently working in a Gym and in a Doctor's office. I'm sure if I go ER Nurse, I'll have to leave both positions." His second question has her glancing towards Minerva, letting her answer first. At the response, Erin is glad she had waited. "You would likely be better off with Minerva's training. She really knows her stuff." A smile betwen the two. A dip of her head to Minerva, "It was good to catch up with you. See you soon and safe travels." Her own food is delivered and she starts cutting up the pecan waffles. "You can join me if you like." But there are two of them, Cip and Devlin. "Or I could go over there." But she does have her food already! "A lawyer? What sort of law do you practice?"

When Minerva stands up to go, Ciprian nods. "All right; I know she'll like that. See you soon, Riya." He lifts a hand to his sister just as his pancakes come. A fortuitous arrival indeed! He murmurs his thanks to the server before reaching for the syrup and pouring on enough to rival the Columbia, but maybe it's to offset the black coffee. We'll say it is, anyway. He picks up his fork and knife, cutting a generous piece for himself as he looks up at Erin. "Criminal law," he replies. "I'm a prosecutor."

"Yeah," Yule confirms about that observation of LUcinda's when it comes to his paper which is already being unfolded until it's half of it's proper size. "Lucky you didn't snag the weather section, else I'd have been upgraded to proper asshole." Those words are light and airy, an off handed remark like such references wouldn't break his heart in the least. His plate comes to join his coffee cup, but he isn't watching, though the arm between him and Lucy? It's planted like the Great Wall of China to protect his plate.

"Any time. Sure we could get you in to the office to observe an autopsy or two in the name of education, as well. You'll just have to figure out how to find me, Erin." There's just the faintest of smiles at that from Yule, a light challenge placed down before the examiner spins back around to focus on his food. It's a piece of the bacon he picks up first, and that is held up in a silent salute of farewell to Minerva when she heads out before the tasty start of his breakfast ends up in his mouth.

Devlin stands up as Minerva leaves and then sits back down. "Have a great day, Doctor." He then returns to his seat. "Could have used a good lawyer down in LA for my troubles. Survived.. but you'd never imagine what a politician can do that you just can not fight.. even with the truth." He snorts as he begins to finish off his food. His eyes take on a bit of hardness for a moment and then soften again, yeah, good guess still bothers him.

Luce's head comes up like she heard something she's not terribly fond of. And with that, the blonde upends the syrup, douses her plate in maple syrup after smashing butter into most of the wells of her waffle with the scrape of a knife. It's not precise or pretty, which is going to bug the shit out of her when she's trying to eat it, but the words criminal and prosecutor just dropped out of someone's mouth and fuck that.

"If you wish to know the weather, look outside." Her tone is more like who reads about the weather, honestly? With double emphasis on the honestly. That was awfully prim for a woman with pine needles in her hair. She does cast a glance at Yule's plate as she rises, though. Good thing he planted his arm. She didn't order hash browns. As soon as Yule's attention shifts to Erin and off of her, like a Weeping Angel, she moves. Except instead of toward anyone, it's for the door. Exeunt!

Yeah, with a plate of waffle in her hands. Funny how the waitstaff either doesn't notice that or doesn't react. Zoooooom.

"Oh interesting!" Erin seems to be genuinely impressed by the prosecutor occupation, though she adds in a commentary. "I wonder how you even have time for a life outside it with all the recent murders." Of course she does realize some of it goes without explanations. It was Gray Harbor after all and some things never got solved. She glances over to Yule and his troubles with the paper. "I could give you the general weather. Rain with a chance of more rain. I'm looking forward to the holidays and Christmas tree shopping and decorating. I imagine there's people who hire out decorating the outsides of houses for such things." Her smile holds excitement at the thought of the holidays. The hint of the challenge is met with raised brows, "You realize the name of the hospital is Addington Memorial. There's probably not a space in there I've not been." Amusement glitters in her dark eyes, but she seems to delight in the challenge issued. At Devlin;s reaction, a good old fashioned gentleman standing when a lady was leaving, she does notice and he gets a smile for his efforts. "It sounds like a tough time down there."

"Oh, I don't know. I can imagine quite a bit." Though this slightly dry reply to Devlin comes after Ciprian's finished the bite, of course. Otherwise, yuck. "It does keep me busy, that's for sure," he continues as he looks back to Erin, but while he looks like he might have said more, the sudden departure of Lucinda has him looking that way again as his eyebrows raise. He doesn't seem to realize that he was the impetus for it -- or at least, if he does realize it, his expression doesn't give it away. All he says, however, is, "Watch out for falling anvils." Perhaps from the full-size cartoon character on her trail. It's said in a friendly way, which lends credence to his cluelessness about the part he has played in her quick exit.

With one piece of the bacon polished off, Yule holds up his paper, though it clearly isn't the weather section. His other hand plucks up his fork, using it to take cut up those eggs over easy. "You sure?" the man asks Lucinda in a tone that is so casually calm it makes it sound like everyone should be questioning what they see out windows. "Might just-" But then she's scampering off. With her plate, and out the door she goes. "Nice meeting you too." He quips out, not even bothering to look over his shoulder as she flees.

"Yeah?" Comes Yule's thought back to Erin, "Love Christmas. It's great. Long as you don't plan to wrap me up in lights and tensil." There is the barest flicker of a smile when she mentions that family name, but he does a grand job of keeping his focus on that paper, pausing to have a few bites of that breakfast. "The Hopsital? Is that where I'm supposed to cut up the bodies at? Well, fuck me." Mischief and amusement dance in that tone, sparing just a brief glance over towards her table.

<FS3> Lucinda rolls Veil Fall: Good Success (8 7 6 5 3 3 2) (Rolled by: Portal)

"Well, that is where most medical examiner's offices are at in smaller towns," is Devlin's comment to Yule. "Hope you don't mind if I try to lighten the load by saving a few potential customers from their misadventures, stupidity, and other assorted issues." This said jokingly as he refills his tea. He nods to Ciprian, "Yeah.. left me feeling like a dumb PoG for sure.. sad thing is that asshole has no clue that even if he walked in bleeding out right now.. I'd do my damnedest to save his sorry ass."

Once outside, Luce hangs a left and all but disappears. She's pretty fast in those little vintage heels. Go go gadget vanish! ... right into the flipping Veil. Somewhere, somehow, the universe is laughing. Maybe a stoner in the parking lot blinked and one minute a blonde was there, the next gone. She leaves no trace behind her.

"That's the attitude that'll make you a great EMT," Ciprian replies as he inclines his head to Devlin, but then he becomes more quiet, considering there are pancakes to be eaten now. He does so with a zeal that is in direct contrast to the rest of his manner, which is rather dry and relatively composed, even when he's making a joke. Of course, it's possible he wasn't joking. Who knows!

Something strikes him then, however, and he reaches into his pocket again, pulling out his phone. "Shoot," he murmurs as he stands quickly and drops some bills on the table. "I'm late. Sorry to run, good to meet you both," he says, looking from Erin to Devlin before his gaze moves back to Yule. "And nice to see you again. Give me a call if you want to catch up." With that, he turns and moves toward the exit -- not with quite the same alacrity as Lucinda had, but still.

"Do me a favor and save the nice ones?" Yule offers back to Devlin with sincerity, though it still holds a touch of humor in it. Those eggs are polished off, but only after he's unfolded the paper to flip the page, refolding it. "What is it you do?" Comes the more serious comment to Devlin, having caught only bits and pieces of the conversation.

"Oh wait, was that an option?" Erin ponders Yule's wrapping in tinsel and lights. "If you're hanging up my Christmas lights then I'll refrain, otherwise I make no promises. I plan on going with a group to go Christmas tree shopping. It's my first Christmas in the new house I bought. I want to go all out." She says nothing of the hospital, nor of the commentary, but she does look amused in return. Reaching for her phone, she dials three numbers, biting her lower lip as she does so. She even hits the speaker button for good measure.
"Operator, how can I help you?"
Erin: "I'd like the number to the Medical Examiner's office please."
Please hold.
A recorded voice: If you'd like to connect to ###-###-#### please press #.
Erin presses the button.
The phone rings. "Medical Examiners Call Service, can I take a message?
Erin smirks. "Just the physical address please. And thank you."
"The address is.." And the address is given.
Erin smiles over at Yule, her overkill moment. "What days are best for company?" She offers a wave to the departing Ciprian, "Take care, it was nice meeting you."

A snort of laughter comes from the man as he slides from his stool, hand reaching down to his back pocket to pull out his wallet. "I end up wrapped up in lights? I'm putting you in a box and a big, red ribbon with a bow. And I might not put it on the box, but wrapping you up in it." A few bills are pulled out, enough for his meal plus a healthy tip, and it's tossed down on the counter as that speaker of the phone springs to life. The end of the conversation has a brief burst of bright laughter that comes from him. "All right, all right. And it's hard to say," That's offered in seriousness, his eyes focusing upon the woman for a moment. "If you want to observe, have to have a case to work on... which, sadly, isn't all that rare. If you are just looking for a day? Mondays are the most likely."

Devlin smiles a bit there seeing Erin tease Yule. He answers Yule, "Sixty-Eight Whiskey or combat medic if you perfer, 12 years under my belt and 4 tours. Been around the block a few times. Working on my certifications for the state to be an EMT here at Gray Harbor. Seems they are not going to waver the certification requirement as might be done for a few others."

Already she's amused before Yule even gets to the mention of the red bow. "A big red ribbon hm? Wrapped around me? Big? What are you trying to say?" All taking the wording deliberately, just like women do! But she takes no offense, she's laughing about it. That is until he mentions not having an exact time for a body. "Well why didn't you just say I have to go kill someone so we have something to observe?" Erin gives a mock roll of her eyes before offering him a light hearted grin. "That hurts to even say! As a healer, I mean. I guess I will have to show up every day until we have someone. Otherwise I'm likely to miss it."

She lifts her brows as she regards Devlin, "Thank you for your service. I didn't realize you'd served. Hopefully they will make it easier on you," she says honestly.

Devlin's answer earns a critical, considering look from Yule, but then a sharp nod comes from him in approval. "Good to have you on board - or at least soon, I hope. Good luck with the certifications." The examiner slides his wallet back into where he got it from, reaching over to the counter to snag that paper. "I'm saying I don't do anything small." Comes his ready retort towards the Addington, one dark brow arching upwards in another flash of delighted challenge. "And if you can just drag the body in yourself? I'll give you a gold star for that. It'll really stand out on your college records." Morbid humor is right up his alleyway, all a part of the coping mechanism. "Anyway. Nice to meet both of you."

Devlin nods to Yule, "Good to meet you. You'll get the honor of whom I refer to and cuss when fighting hard for a causality's life. I'll do my best to keep them off your table." To Erin he offers a smile, "All in a days work.. " his tone turns teasing, "Do they come in time periods shorter than 40?" A bit of a grin there as he sips his tea.

"Nice talking to you again, Yule. I'll work on that body, otherwise, I'll see at the office on Monday." Erin settles in for her pecan waffles now, giving them the attention she's been keeping from them. She flashes him a last, amused smile as he heads out. She takes a few bites and looks over at Devlin with a grin in response to his. "All in a days work." Echoing his words back at him.

Devlin chuckles, "No fun when they don't even pick it up." He sips on his tea. "Though I may need to go spend some time resting again. Still feeling a bit drained." He pauses to let Erin enjoy her food before asking, "Forgive me for being a little clueless.. but you mentioned that your family is an important one in town, assuming I got that right?"

"Oh I never really said they were important in town, just that I share the same name as the Addington Hospital. Addington is my last name. I'm really no one of importance. Not anymore. See my grandmother, Great Uncle or my cousin Patrick. I'm sure they could open more doors for you than I can. It goes with trying to save more people than I should I guess. The backlash is killer." Erin smiles a little ruefully as she finishes off her waffle and bacon. "My cousin Hyacinth has a lot of connections also."

Devlin ahhs, "Actually was not thinking about connections. Just trying to get the lay of the land as it were. I hope you do finish up with your with getting your RN." He hmms, "Sounds like you have a big family.. and backlash?" his tone concerned and curious at once.

"I'm not really trying for RN right now. There's not enough hours in the day for both my part time jobs and school for that yet. Maybe once cloning is a real thing." Erin gives a smile, trying to lighten the banter. "Have you read any of the more recent history of the town? I do have a big family, it's just recently gotten smaller. You'd probably do better to read the history. It would save both of us some unnecessary sympathies." Going really for a brave face there, along with a smile. "So what's your story? What brought you here?"

There is a pause as he sips his tea. "I grew up in an Military family.. Army brat. Been folks in my family serving in all branches since the war of 1812. For me, I enlisted to be a medic and went Airborne. Been a member of the First of the Five Oh Four in the Eighty Second Airborne my entire active duty career of twelve years. I did spend about eighteen months in the California guard while I was working my way to be an LA SWAT team medic." Devlin takes a bit of a breath there.

"Impressive lineage there. Even for yourself, you've served quite awhile. Welcome to Gray Harbor, maybe you've found your place here among all of us townies. If you're looking for lives to save, there's never a shortage of them. Just listen for your responders radio." Erin eats most of her food but she makes no immediate moves to get to her feet. "I wasn't joking about Minerval She knows a lot and I'm sure she can help you."\

Devlin nods, "There is more. The why I moved up here. You see, on one of my runs with EMS where we are learning the LA way of doing things, there was this vehicle accident. Pretty serious one, with four victims. One with minor injuries, the other three pretty bad shape.. the one in the worst shape was barely stable enough to even remove from the wrecked car he was in. The cops had already called for care flights before we got there. Good call that." He sips his tea and then continues, "As we triaged and treated our victims, I learned the first bird to arrive was basically just a flying Ambulance with an EMT and no extra gear. The second bird had a nurse and surgeon with instruments and would show up about ten minutes later. So I made the call, keep the unstable kid on the ground and keep him alive. Send the other two on the first lift. We keep the kid alive for the other bird and got him on the chopper with the Surgeon. The kid died on the OR table."

"Sounds like it was a tough decision to make. I think there wasn't a wrong call there at all. A person can only do what they can do but sometimes maybe fate takes up where healing ends." Her plate is pushed aside, "I can give you my number, if you'd like to get in contact with anyone. I know a pretty good amount of people in this town, including a couple of the paramedics, if you're interested."

Devlin says, "I've meet Sutton and some of the others. Part of the process as my application goes there and assuming I get the certifications, I'll be on the team in a few weeks. To finish the long story in a short way, Kid was the heir apparent of a State Senator. He did not take what happened well. Used his connections to screw up my life and any chances of being part of any EMS in California. And almost killed my National accreditation. Turns out his reach didn't go as deep as he thought. Still, if I want to do this, I had to leave. So a friend I served with had a slot open in at Tacoma in the Washington guard.. and so I came up. One of the guys in the unit told me they needed EMS here.. so took my chances. Seattle and Tacoma were not going to touch me .."

"I'm sorry to hear that, Devlin. That couldn't have been easy having the choice taken away from you." Erin shakes her head, "At least their loss is our gain. We get a paramedic out of the deal. And what seems like a genuinely nice guy. I don't ever see a man who stands when a lady does or anything anymore. That was really nice to see. A gentleman."

Devlin smiles, "Yeah, that is the positive out of things. Just a frustrating path for me to get here to this point. We may be over staying our welcome.. the way the waitress keeps staring at us?"

"I think you're right. I guess I should get on with my day. I need to get to the gym soon. It was nice meeting you Devlin." Erin gets to her feet after paying. "Take care and welcome to Gray Harbor."

Devlin settles his bill, "Have a good one. Looking forward to may be catching you in a hand off in the ER in the future. Get that license.. I have faith."
