Tobin
Tobin is the proprietor of Gray Harbor Boat Tours located just off the docks at Gray Harbor Bay. There are two ships -- a smaller one for short tours and small private parties, and a larger one for dinner cruises, events, and longer tours. Gray Harbor Boat Tours has been in operation since the 1950s, and Tobin took over its operation in 2014.

Likes to read and teaches piano. From New York. Hasn't been frightened off by all the weird in town, and was given his mother's name as someone to look up in town. Tobin suspects the person who gave it to him might have been his father. Endured meeting Tobin's friends under duress during an intervention for one of them. It was more than just a coffee thing.
Most people find Alexander a little offputting at best, but Tobin doesn't mind him or his stories at all. There's something about him. He isn't entirely sure what it is, but he's not as quick to dismiss Alexander as others might be.
Part of the Gray Harbor Adventurer's Guild and Tobin's best friend as a child. Byron was charismatic, industrious, and persevered despite his home life. Tobin admired that. They stayed in touch even when Byron moved away, but he's secretly glad that he's back in town.
Used to pick on Byron when they were kids, but the two seem to be getting along now. If Byron's not holding a grudge, Tobin won't either.
Knew one another growing up. They still see one another down at the bar on Friday nights and she comes out to ride the boat from time to time.
Erin Addington was never particularly close to the group, and Tobin didn't know her very well, but now that she's his neighbor -- bonding has been had over lasagna and cookies.
Geoff was the one with the crazy ideas, and Tobin was the enabler, always finding some way to push the late night shenanigans just a little further. There may have been some things lit on fire. There may have been some broken bones from falling off of things (or jumping). There were fences scaled, and places poked into that should not have been explored. But that was the fun of it.
Librarian and companion. They were in the same class growing up and have a kind of easy, companionable friendship.
James hung out with the younger kids because he was closer to their stature. He was part of the D&D group that Tobin was in.
Part of the Gray Harbor Adventurer's Guild and another good friend. Kevin was the nerdy one who started the D&D games. Tobin always had fun playing with him, though they lost touch for a while.
One of the many kids of Gray Harbor that Tobin's mom made cookies for and welcomed into her home. They were friends as kids, but she went all emo and bailed on Gray Harbor, and they lost touch.
One of the many kids who came to hang out at "The Club House", as Tobin's home has come to be called. One of the many kids his mom took a shine to. She's a lot younger, and they didn't spend a lot of time talking, themselves, but they were always cool with one another.
Absorbed more during those D&D games than she let on. Investigator extraordinaire. Sweetheart.
- Local - He was born and raised here in town and has lived here all his life.
- Boat Tours - He owns and operates the Gray Harbor Boat Tours, giving guided tours and hosting events.
- Glimmer - He has that spark, though he doesn't talk about it a lot. He might be willing to open up to others with a similar spark.
- Parents - His father, Charles, left Gray Harbor when he was young for New York. He may still be there. His mother, Lillian, vanished shortly before high school graduation and has yet to return.
- Mom - Tobin's mother was highly empathic, just like he is. She tended to take care of all of his friends, particular those who had hard home lives. She would bake cookies, offer them a safe place to stay if they ever needed it, or just an ear or a hug. She, like her son, was always very accepting of everyone.
- Sketch Artist - In his free time, he likes to sketch -- people, places, animals, random things he remembers from dreams.
- Puppy - Tobin recently adopted a puppy that was found abandoned near the Firefly woods and named him Mason.
Tobin Gilford was born and raised in Grey Harbor and is well acquainted with the oddities that exist here. From the time that he was a young child, he knew that there was something "other" about the place, and strange things happened around him. When he was in elementary school, his father wanted to leave Grey Harbor for a lucrative job in New York, but his mother insisted on staying. Her family had been in town for as long as anyone could remember, and it was her home. She had no interest in going to live in New York. They fought for some time, and eventually they split, leaving Tobin with his mother. Just before graduation, his mother simply vanished one day. The tea kettle was still on. Her gardening tools were still out. She'd been known to slip in and out from time to time, and Tobin wouldn't be able to find her, but this was the first time that she'd gone for more than a day. Days turned into weeks, and graduation came and went. She never returned.
Tobin was a good-natured kid, friendly and good to others. He began working part-time at the Gray Harbor Boat Tours when he was in high school and then continued on afterward, eventually taking over the business. There are a couple of boats, a smaller one for short tours, and a larger one for dinner cruises and weddings and the like. He's an expert regarding navigating the harbor, and knows a good number of stories to tell those who attend the tours. Most of them, people write off as myth and legend.
He has had plenty of experiences moving in and out of the Veil. He is convinced that his mother is caught somewhere in-between, or that one of the Dark Men took her. He hopes that someday he might find where she's gone and bring her back. He's also convinced that it's from her family that he has gained his uncanny knack with the Glimmer. His first experience with it, was following an "imaginary friend" that his parents and other friends reported never to see, through the veil and into a dream world filled with an enormous tree house. But when he told others about the tree house, they rarely believed him. Now, he keeps a lot of his experience with the Glimmer to himself unless he finds another with similar abilities.
He stands a couple of inches above six feet with a lean build and a slightly tanned complexion in the summer months that fades over the winter. Dark eyes are framed by loose collar-length dark hair that occasionally obscure their view. He has a straight nose, and an easy smile that is usually present more often than not. Appearing to be in his late twenties, he seems no stranger to physical activity and is in good shape. He tends to dress practically for the weather, spending much of his working hours outdoors. Often seen in jeans and hiking boots with a t-shirt in warmer weather, and layers in colder weather, he can occasionally clean up and be seen in a suit -- but that's reserved for special occasions. He wears little in the form of jewelry save for a silver ring or two on his fingers.
