<FS3> Finch rolls Alertness: Great Success (7 7 6 6 6 5 4)

The fever has been rocking Gray Harbor. For the most part things have been weird and trippy. For the budding mentalist they have been epicly surreal. This is another great example of things feeling normal sitting in the Grizzly Bear Diner in a booth as they wait for Ignacio to show up. The AC is out. There seems to be one waitress there. There's the usual habit of browsing through the phone looking for thing that entertain. On the radio they're playing Muzak that is a muted background of popular 80's and in front of Itzhak is an auto trader magazine.

<FS3> August rolls Alertness: Good Success (8 7 7 7 5 4 4)

<FS3> Itzhak rolls Alertness: Good Success (8 8 8 5 5 2)

Finch hasn't felt normal in over a week. She's all kinds of sick thanks to her charmingly adorably yet maddeningly frustrating boyfriend. Sitting in the Grizzly Den Diner feels normal only in that she's not in bed puking up her guts into a bucket ever twenty minutes or so. She blinks around in confusion for a moment, trying to remember how she got here and coming up epically blank. "Did I order anything?" she asks Itzhak, because she can't recall.

Itzhak's slumped back in the booth, one knee hiked against the edge of the table, flipping through the Auto Trader. He just bought a shop truck but several people have asked him to scout out cars for them. What a burden! He looks bizarrely healthy for a guy who just barely got out of the hospital and then went and instigated a fistfight. "I ordered you toast and tea," he answers Finch. "Ugh, can you believe they're asking eighteen thousand for that junk!"

August, the reason Itzhak is looking remarkably hale and hearty, is looking a lot better himself. He could still stand to put in some weight, and he's working on that in the form of a pair if waffles with whipped cream and bananas, which he doesn't remember ordering. They taste good, though! ...he thinks.

"Not a shocker, they way overcharge for garbage anymore. Why you think my car's ten years old?" He'll just use glimmer to keep it on the road forever at this point.

It's Finch that hears it. It's a muffled sound, her phone, his ringer going off. When Itzhak flips through the paper there's a character drawn in the ads. And in the ads they are looking at him. The next ad they are slowly turning away, and on the next page walking from one advert into the frame of another one. They are still photos but people moving even in stills from advert to advert is something else. The waitress comes by and sets out tea for two and two coffees and a large dinner plate piled with pancakes and toast. It says ROSA on her name tag.

Finch makes a sound at Itzhak. "I am so sick of tea and toast," she mutters. She doesn't need William Gohl up in her skull to be cranky, the Flu has had that covered. She picks up her tea, then squints at the sound of her phone and begins looking for where she put it.

"Hear ya," Itzhak says, glancing up at Finch with a hitch of a sympathetic smile. He picks up one of the cups of coffee, looks back down and what the hell. Those eyebrows go alarmed. He flips the pages back and forth. Is he seeing this right? "Uhhhhh, guys?" The illustration of the person in the ad is not doing as they should and staying in one place! Is he hallucinating from the flu again??

August pauses midbite to peer at the ads with the still image person. He slowly lowers his fork, leans over to squint. "What...on Earth..." He glances up at the waitress back down at the figure. He sighs, looks askance at Itzhak. "Please tell me we're not Over There."

Yes. Yes, you are.

There's a pic sent to Finch's phone. And then 1 becomes 4 becomes 18, becomes several. Ignacio looking at the camera standing in a garage. The next Hands come up. Then they press to the glass. It's like a slideshow that flips and becomes smoother the faster she scrolls like stop motion. A little Figgy banging with a tiny FIggy fist against the inside of her glass. He looks up and tries to lean on the edge of the frame and he starts shaking it looking back to her. Something causes him to look off camera a bit alarmed.

Itzhak hears it. The faster he digs through the auto mag the faster the now two figures seem to be rushing around the corner and to a garage. in one of the ads for breaks and shocks.

August... for what it's worth the pancakes are pretty fucking moist!

"Iggy?" Finch asks, staring at the phone, swiping through. "Guys? Iggy's in trouble I think." She turns the phone for them to see, and catches a glimpse of the magazine and the moving figures. "That....looks wrong..." She blinks.

"Oh no." Itzhak cranes his long neck to look at Finch's phone. "I'm gonna be so mad at him!" He scowls ferociously at tiny-Iggy. ...Are the Auto Trader people going after Ignacio?! Itzhak barks at the magazine, "Hey!" and reaches into the frame to stop them. That is NOT GOING TO WORK, Itzil! Or is it...?

"What the hell..." August peers from Finch's phone to the Auto Trader. "Can you tear out the page? Will that stop them?" He sees Itzhak try to reach into the page, grabs his other arm. "Careful," he warns, "who knows what we're dealing with."

<FS3> Itzhak rolls physical (6 4 4 4 4 3 3 3 3 2 2 1) vs Too Much Truth in Advertising (a NPC)'s 8 (8 7 7 7 5 4 4 3 2 1)
<FS3> Crushing Victory for Too Much Truth in Advertising.

<FS3> Ruiz rolls driving (5 5 4 2 2) vs The hell was that?! (a NPC)'s 6 (8 8 7 7 7 6 5 1)
<FS3> Crushing Victory for The hell was that?!.

<FS3> Ruiz rolls driving+reflexes (8 8 6 5 4) vs What the Hell Was That (a NPC)'s 6 (8 7 6 6 5 4 3 3)
<FS3> Marginal Victory for What the Hell Was That.

As Itzhak goes to swat them away from the page he reaches in,...and in... and he falls right into the page becoming graphic art in the process. Itzhak manages to stumble but not trip over the edge of the margin and the advert frame on the way in. In the frame he even trips over a trash can and a outside the diner windo w a trashcan rolls into the street in front of Ruiz's car.... when was he on patrol last and why he is doing it now who knows. Where Finch and August are the lid roooooooooolls by the window.

"What the hell is going on?" Finch declares, and she watches Itzhak get pulled into the magazine, yelping and reaching to try and grab the mechanic's foot, much as Ignacio grabbed hers when she was pulled into that Hedge.

There's a screech of brakes from out front of the diner, as what looks like an unmarked police cruiser brakes and swerves slightly in an effort to avoid a trashcan that spontaneously tumbles into the street. The thing has bull bars mounted on the front for a reason. And that reason has nothing to do with rogue garbage receptacles. CRACK as the vehicle comes to a halt and half crumples the thing, sending it skittering away to the curb.

<FS3> August rolls Physical: Good Success (7 7 6 6 4 2 2 2)

And like that August hangs on and is pulled through the page on their side of the table. Looking back at her phone and the page the art style matches and it becomes clear that The pictures sent to her on Finch's phone are not snap chat filters. Outside the car comes to an abrupt halt. Inside the waitress has gone into the back. Seriously where is everyone and why is the Muzak getting louder?

Not August too! Finch grabs the magazine, trying to see what happened to the two men and looking for Iggy in it, yelling obscenities at the top of her lungs, some of them in Spanish. Of course the first words Iggy taught her were curse words.

Ignacio is somewhere terribly proud. It's a beautiful thing.

Itzhak curses as he trips over the trash can, stumbles to a halt, and discovers he's now an illustration too. And that his cursing was silenced, this is a family show! He pulls August through with him, to his dismay. "----!" Now August is also a drawing.

August falls in after Itzhak, stares at their surroundings, Itzhak, himself. His expression gradually changes to 'you have for to be fucking kidding me'.

The cop car swings up to the curb and the lone occupant climbs out, also dressed like a bit of a cliche; which is to say, in the black on black and hefty duty rig of a patrol officer. Never mind that this particular cop is a captain, and his job requires he wear a (cheap) suit. He looks down at himself in some confusion, then through the window of the diner at Finch sitting there. Confusion.

The magazine shows August and Itzhak's location following them like a comic. Oh god... this is that damn video. Awwww hell. At least for Finch there's someone outside because in the comic... Auto trader? There's at least an address? Is there one?

In the Book there's 2 goons out front banging on the door to the garage: Itzhak's garage. Inside, by Finch's phone's indication anyhow, Ignacio is trying to hold the door shut looking around and trying to find out how to get out of there. Giving up the 2 sketchy looking mechanics look like they're about to get inside and spot Itzhak's car and one of them makes a dash for that while the other is still trying to force entry on Itz's place. Not okay!

Finch gets up from the booth and she heads for the door, spotting the police officer. She kicks it open with a combat-booted foot and stomps over to him, all five feet, four inches of her. "Do you see people moving in this!?" she demands of him, shoving the magazine open to the strange ads in his face. Oh look, there are illustrations of August and Itzhak, and they are moving. "We need to get to Steelhead Garage like NOW!"

<FS3> Itzhak rolls melee (8 7 7 4 3 3 2 2) vs Sketchy Guy (a NPC)'s 3 (7 6 6 6 1)
<FS3> Marginal Victory for Sketchy Guy.

NOT HIS CAR! Itzhak roars, "Hey you BLEEP get away from my *BLEEP*ing car!" and charges the dude, six foot one of illustrated Jewish fury. He goes for him fist-first without hesitating.

<FS3> August rolls Spirit: Good Success (8 7 7 6 5 5 4 3 1 1)

August pauses for half a second to remind himself that last time other people were the cartoons, and it hadn't made sense even though he wasn't. He leaves the guy going after Heartbreaker to Itzhak, since he sounds mad enough to take care of it, turns his attention to the one after Ignacio. This isn't real, so he doesn't feel too bad about reaching out and trying to break the guy's fucking leg, one hand slowly curling into a fist and turning sideways with a swift yank, like he's turning the bone by hand.

Ruiz looks like he's still trying to orient himself to all of this. What the fuck kind of a dream turns him back into a beat cop, anyway? "Fuck," is his conclusion on that front, right before Finch rolls up on him with her combat boots and her stomping. "Who the hell are you?" What cop addresses people like that? Questions for the ages. He does move back toward his cruiser though, and pop the back door open for Finch. She gets to ride behind the cage!

<FS3> Itzhak rolls Athletics: Good Success (8 8 6 4 2 1)

<FS3> Ruiz rolls Driving: Success (8 7 5 3 3)

<FS3> Ignacio rolls melee (5 4 3) vs August's melee (8 5 3)
<FS3> Marginal Victory for August.

Itzhak takes a swing at the guy rolling up on Heartbreaker, his beloved car. The sketchy guy (you see what we did there 😃) ducks and comes back around and hits Itzhak hard with a wrench making the tall lanky man buckle. With some great alacrity he runs over and sliiiiiiides across the hood. He throws the door open, stoops and tries to hotwire the beloved vehicle one, OH! it catches on the second time and wasting no time nearly running over. That car goes tearing away down the street and abruptly around the corner!

The man ... sketch person? Sugust lacerates with great aplomb doesn't bleed so much as teh blue lines that draw him smudge violently until ink bleeds draining the colour from him and he erases slowly from view. This also means as Ignacio charges out to throw things at his assailant it's not the criminal there. He comes out swinging a fire extinguisher at August who is able to step out of the way as the guy comes stumbling out. He stops though, grabs August's shirt and pulls him towards him and out of teh way so he's not run over as the guy takes off like a bat out of hell.

"Finch Celaeno," the pink haired pixie declares. "I'm sure you'll remember that someday when you arrest me for murdering all the men in my family. But for now, people are in trouble. Go man, Go!" Finch is a weird name. He might remember a similarly bird-named woman from long ago, at a party, somewhere not here, what did she tell him her name was? Wren? Finch climbs into the back with a grunt. "Hurry, please!"

<FS3> August rolls spirit (8 7 7 7 5 4 3 2 2 2) vs Break Engine (a NPC)'s 6 (6 5 4 3 3 3 2 1)
<FS3> Crushing Victory for august.

<FS3> Stop That Car! (a NPC) rolls 4 (8 5 5 3 2 1) vs Itzhak's Physical (7 7 7 5 4 4 4 3 2 1 1 1)
<FS3> Victory for Itzhak.

Itzhak makes an awful sound and drops to his knees, his scalp split open and bleeding terrifically in sketchy slashes of black. "----! YOU ------ING -----!" Okay, he can't be hurt that bad if he can scream curses at the top of his lungs. "Baby, don't leave me!" That's...to the car. Heartbreaker listens to him, and screeches to a halt.

<FS3> Finch rolls Awareness: Success (6 5 5 2)

<FS3> Finch rolls Alertness: Success (8 5 4 4 4 3 1)

<FS3> Ruiz rolls 4 (8 5 3 3 2 2) vs Who The Fuck Names Their Kid After A Bird (a NPC)'s 4 (7 7 6 5 3 2)
<FS3> Victory for Who The Fuck Names Their Kid After A Bird.

<FS3> Ruiz rolls Alertness: Success (6 6 4 3 2 2)

August stares as the guy...bleeds? into nothing when August breaks his leg. Well, that's not how he expected that to go. Except then he's dodging a fire extinguisher and then Ignacio, so he doesn't have time to think about it.

More swearing from Itzhak. August turns, sees Heartbreaker speeding away. He's not thinking too carefully about what he's doing, just finds something big and important under the fiberglass hood and smashes it. He flinches when the block snaps in response to his grip on it, lets go immediately. With a wince, he says to Itzhak, "I'll fix it."

Finch? "Who the fuck names their kid after a bird," is what the cop grumbles as he climbs into his cruiser, and tries to think where he's seen this girl before. He sees a lot of girls, so she could be anyone, really.

The mean-looking beast swerves back onto the street and guns it for Steelhead.

"It's a family thing. My mom is a Wren, Gran is Dove, Auntie is Starling, I got off easy," Finch declares to the cop. "My cousins are Harry and Perry, short for Harrier and Peregrine. I may not feel ALL that bad when I have to murder them. They're kind of blond dipshits." Pause. "I think I have an great great uncle Pigeon somewhere in the old family tree too." She curses in Spanish as the garage comes into view.

That car dies a magnificent death. The driver gets out and takes off around the corner. Sketch flames shoot out from under the hood. They shouldn't! This is not a normal reaction for them to have but here we are. Just on the next street over Finch and Ruiz can spot a plume of flame creeping up. Ignacio still hasn't said word one but that expression says everything. Guys that might blow up!
Ignacio turns and runs over to Itzhak dragging his leg a bit but making good time. He pauses and looks him over concerned. The music... from SOMEWHERE gets louder.

As they drive over there Ruiz and Finch pass a guy playing a keytar under one of the Elm St. lamp posts seemingly oblivious to everything going on. Finch's phone buzzes again and the scene from her phone is not the one she sees before her. As the cruiser rounds the corner they see Heartbreaker alone and crashed into a lamp post with a thick plume of smoke coming out from under the engine.

Itzhak gets to his feet, and makes an utterly stricken expression as he hears the crash. "ROEN!" He looks at August accusingly. WHY, AUGUST? WHY DID YOU DO THIS TO HIM? He breaks into a run to get to his poor car.

"I can fix it!" August assures Itzhak. Well, assuming they can get the fire out. Which, could prove a problem, and this isn't a fire August made so he can't really...do, anything. Car, don't blow up, maybe. Please don't blow up! Fixing a blown up car will be much harder. He works on fixing things even as the fire eats at them, stubbornly trying to keep the car in one piece.

"Oh no," Finch breathes at the sight of the wrecked car. She checks the phone urgently, then the magazine pages, trying to find her people in that other world. "Let me out!" Stupid cop car back doors.

Ooh, that's not going to end well. The cop car skids to a halt in front of the garage, fishtailing slightly and kicking up dust as it comes to a halt. The correct thing to do here would be to call dispatch and alert them of the need for fire, and possibly a medic. Which he does, after popping the back door for Finch to climb out. Whatever thoughts he has about her parentage or familial naming scheme, he keeps to himself.

<FS3> August rolls Spirit: Good Success (8 7 6 6 5 4 4 2 2 1)

<FS3> Ignacio rolls Alertness: Good Success (8 6 6 6 4 4 2 1 1)

Ignacio pulls out his phone to text FInch for help. he pauses looking up Itzhak's car alarmed and distressed. Fingers push back through his dark hair. The three men hear the car but they don't see Ruiz's cruiser at all. He pulls up his phone and looks curious at it. Still mute it seems he slaps Itzhak in the chest repeatedly and annoyingly tap tap tapping his phone to show what should be right in front of them. it's finch in frame, but not in reality. Or at least not in theirs. Like teh phone on both sides being some live facetime hole between worlds. He's forgotten the car and the furrowed look is distressed and that done runs over to where she is standing.

Where August is the fight to repair at the rate of damage is slooooow but steadily working. It will take a while in this world.

Itzhak is pissed the hell off but there's no longer anyone to expend his ire on. Except Ignacio who's thwapping him in the chest. "What?! Use your words!" He can see Finch through the 'window' of the phone, and follows Ignacio as he runs to where she's standing. "...We need a door."

<FS3> Itzhak rolls Physical: Great Success (8 8 7 6 6 4 4 4 3 2 1 1)

Finch gets out of the back of the cop car, holding the phone up and moving it around, trying to find them, so she can reach them. THERE! There is Iggy and Itzhak. She chews her lower lip and just goes for it, shoving her hand through the phone to try and grab Ignacio's hand. "Hang onto me so I don't get pulled through!" she barks at Ruiz.

August keeps up the fight against the fire, fixing the car as much as he can. Because, well, there's a chance the car isn't the same one as the one in their world? But he's not taking that risk. Itzhak will hate him forever if it. So. It gets fixed. "Can she pull us back like we were pulled in?"

<FS3> August rolls Spirit: Great Success (8 8 7 7 7 6 5 4 4 2)

Ruiz doesn't need to be asked twice. He quits his lollygagging and hesitates a moment while he tries to figure out what to grab onto. And settles eventually for the girl's arm. The one not employed in trying to reach.. through her.. phone. This just keeps getting more and more fucked up. He holds on tight, though.

Itzhak grabs Ignacio's shoulder and August's hand. "Do it, de Santos!"

<FS3> Finch rolls Composure: Good Success (8 8 8 4 1 1)

<FS3> Itzhak rolls Composure -2: Success (6 5 5)

<FS3> Ignacio rolls Composure: Good Success (7 7 7 4 4 3 3 3)

<FS3> August rolls Composure-2: Success (7 5 4 4 1 1)

<FS3> Ruiz rolls Composure-2: Success (6 5 2 1)

Through the phone Itzhak can see it. Finch's fingertips come through the phone. He's not said word once but he doesn't have to be asked twice ever when that hand reaches for his. He pushes his hand into the phone (really, dream physics folks) And laces around hers tight. Wit h a great deal of fighting back from reality being stubborn (as if it has any place here) Ignacio is pulled through. On the other end of his sleeve comes Itzhak and like children holding hands through a museum they are all pulled through.

Well. They're all back on the same side of this damn dream.

Shadows up above in the streetlight flickers. Looking up what they see is a large floating frame about the size of a couple city blocks. A giant hand as if from space starts reaching through. The last thing anyone sees regardless of retaliation is that hand enclosing around them like they are but small miniatures being picked up after being played with. The cars on the street, the cruiser, Heartbreaker look distinctly like matchbox cars as they are lifted further away. The buildings starting to take on an appearance of milk cartons and painted cardboard drifting away. The fingers finish closing everyone into darkness.

Everyone wakes up no more harmed than they were when they slept. Itzhak's arm is undamaged but sore.
Ruiz' arms itch from the polyester in the sleeves of the uniform.
August's hands are incredibly warm from proximity to that fire.
Finch is still holding Ignacio's hand when they wake up on the couch.
