Finch
This stately old Victorian Mansion in Bayside has seen better days. Built in 1910 by Mallard Celaeno, it has been the family home for over 100 years. It has fallen into disrepair from age and a lack of incoming funds to update it, and only part of it is still lived in by Dove Celaeno and her grandaughter, Finch.
Mallard House was built in 1910 by Mallard Celaeno and his wife Constance, upon their arrival in Gray Harbor. It is in a mishmash mostly Victorian style, with turrets, domes, gables, and multiple weathervanes jutting into the Bayside skyline. It is constructed of red and buff colored brick, with dark wood accents and stone bannisters. Many of the windows are boarded up, and ivy has taken over many of the walls. The grounds were once beautiful, but now are mostly untended and need cleanup.
Inside, many of the areas have the doors closed and locked, for safety concerns due to the dilapidated state of parts of the home. In them are dusty hallways with broken toys and piles of old papers, between drifts of leaves and debris that get in through holes in the roof.
The areas that are lived in are well worn but clean, with parquet wood floors that have lost their polished sheen, and faded wallpaper. A grand marble staircase sweeps up from the front entrance, and the pale walls have wood panels that are a dingy white. There are a few pieces of art still remaining, but many have been sold off. Family photos from many generations of Celaenos are still hung.
There are eight bedrooms and five baths, with a parlor, library, kitchen, dining room, living room, den, and sitting room. The house boasts 9 fireplaces.
Finch has brought some plants back to the grounds of Mallard House after she animated them and they helped her.

Cheerleader Finch! A junior at the Dream version of Teddy S. Addington High.
Finch has a pet rat (Mags). She also has four chickens - Canary (so named for a case of mistaken identity by Ignacio), and her three sisters, the Golden Corral Girls, Dorothy, Blanche, and Rose. She also has a pair of eclectus parrots named Lucy (red female) and Ricky (green male). After a tragic pet store accident, she adopted the guinea pig of a deceased store clerk, Guinness.
Finch's Grandmother who became her legal guardian after her mother tried to kill her and was institutionalized.
Father. I have finally learned who my father is, and he's a cop. Apparently I'm half-Mexican. I let him know, since he might be in danger from the curse being botched up by my mother but... our first meeting didn't go very well. Our second went a lot better though and he even came to Thanksgiving dinner. Still a lot of work ahead of us, but getting to know some more about each other is a good start.
Miss Magdalena Heinroth is Finch's pet rat. Granny Dove makes little outfits for her. She is adorable. She is named for the German Ornithologist and author of Die Vögel Mitteleuropas (The Birds of Middle Europe), a four-volume work described as “one of the most important contributions to the life history of European birds.
Finch's mother. After learning about the curse from her brother, Merlin, she vowed not to have children. She failed when she was knocked up in college in a one night stand. After Merlin gave birth to twin sons, creating a target for the curse, Wren tried to kill Finch with a kitchen knife. The 13 year old girl defended herself and survived. Wren is institutionalized.
The last enactor of the Harpy Curse, Starling slaughtered all the males of her generation, leaving just her and Dove alive. She is institutionalized.
Finch's twin cousins, Peregrine and Harrier, sons of Merlin. If she falls under the curse, they would be targets for her. To keep them safe, the pre-teens have been split up and sent to boarding schools, one in Maine and one in England.
Best friend. Lover. Spanish Peacock. He's my person. He's it for me. Now I understand why my family members still married despite the curse. Love, man, what a thing.
Boss. Owner of Out on a Limb. Surrogate dad though don't ever tell him that. I trust him, and I respect him.
I'm not supposed to have friends, but I do. Itzy is a really good mechanic, and he's working on Gran's ancient old land yacht for me. He has a huge heart, even if he tries to hide it with crankiness and sarcasm. He is so strong, and it's doubtful be knows it. I'd take a bullet for him, because I know he'll always look after Iggy and Roen for me.
Iggy's brother. Great guy, who is going through serious family shit. I can relate.
Raf's boyfriend. They're adorable together.
I helped a Veil Raptor a few times in the past, and then, when I needed help in a Dream, it came to my aid. I call the mirror-feathered, camoflauged creature "Clever Girl" in a nod to Jurassic Park's raptors. She is the best Veil friend a gal could have.

The Celaeno Family are known throughout Gray Harbor as the "cursed bird people". No, they aren't half human, half avian mutants or anything. They're longtime ornithologist, members of the Audubon society, and old money philanthropists when it comes to conservation efforts on behalf of the local birds. Their last name is also that of one of the mythical Harpies of legend, and that seems to also be the source of their "curse".
The Celaenos have been part of the town since 1910, when Mallard Celaeno and his wife Constance came from Maine with their four children, three boys and a girl, to begin documenting in great detail, the bird populations of Washington state. They were soon joined by Mallard's sister Piper, and his brother, Robin, who each married and had families, although per tradition, Piper kept her maiden name, and passed it to her children. It was a condition of marrying into the family and their money.
When Piper turned 35, she went insane, so it is said, and murdered Mallard, Robin, and her own husband, every male of her generation in the family. She was institutionalized and died there, with her children, nieces, and nephews, left to carry on the family. The next generation was fine, but the one after, the same tragedy struck when Finch's great aunt, Starling, murdered all her male siblings and first cousins, leaving only herself and Finch's grandmother, Dove, alive. She is still in an institution.
Researching the family in Maine, Finch's uncle Merlin discovered a pattern. This had occurred every second generation as far back as family records went. The firstborn female of that generation eventually went insane and slaughtered all the males of her generation. He reported his findings to his siblings. Finch's mother, Wren, avoided relationships because of it, but got knocked up in college in a one night stand and Finch was born. The first female of her generation. Of the murderous generation. Wren tried to kill her daughter when she was only 13, after her brother's twin sons were born. That was when the Glimmer came to her. With a swipe of her hand in the air, she broke her mother's arm as she tried to bring a kitchen knife down on her to murder her. As curses aren't generally good arguments in a court of law, Wren is also incarcerated with Great Aunty Starling.
Finch was taken in by Granny Dove in the old family house after the incident, and the elderly woman became her guardian. The family wealth has petered out over the years, as the family reputation soured with those dubbed insane, and the costs of upkeep on the institutionalized family members is draining. Dove still continues their philanthropy in smaller ways, and Finch has carried on the ornithology studies, and picked up photography to accent it. She is now a grad student but taking a sabbatical due to not being able to afford tuition. She's looking for a job in town
Finch stands a not-so-towering 5'4" in height. Her frame is compact and slender, much as the bird she is named for. Her hair is dark brown, falling in long, thick waves to her mid-back, with bangs. She is usually seen in military jackets, tights with shorts or minis, combat boots, and unnecessary goggles worn atop her head like a headband. Weirdo all around.
