- We All Fall Down - Kassandra's life started idyllic but went south HARD. She's seen both the highs and the lows of her parents' finances, been nearly rich and borderline poverty. Nobody seems to have a response for how it happened.
- Skitsofrantic - She spent most of her teens and early twenties in that creepy old mental asylum. Now she's out, apparently 'cured'. But really, is anyone actually CURED of mental illness?
- Paint It Black - Kass is actually a pretty talented artist. When she was little it was chalks and sidewalks and crayons on the wall. Now she's upgraded to acrylics and oils... and maybe the occasional graffiti.
- Lust For Life - When she isn't being quiet or sullen, she's very nearly manic in her need to do and see and BE, chasing highs and thrills recklessly.
- The Perfect Drug - Kassandra spent the better part of a decade shut away for mental illness. Its no real surprise that her list of pharmaceuticals is long and almost impressive.
- Mama Said Knock You Out - She doesn't look or act like a fighter, but she can occasionally be found haunting the local fighting scene. Perhaps she's living vicariously through the ones that step into the ring.
Kass was a normal girl.. ish. She Glimmered, even from a young age. When she was happy, everything went well, everyone was healthy and everything ran great. But for some reason when Kassandra Hughes was having a bad day? Everyone around her felt it. Things might break more easily, minor injuries were more common. Nothing very noticeable, at least at first. But when she was seven, the neighborhood 'mean dog' got loose. It found little Kassandra Hughes drawing on the sidewalk with brightly colored chalks. She smiled at the dog. It growled. She tried to share her chalks. It snarled. Then it lunged and bit the young girl, catching her on the upper arm and shoulder. Young Kass let out a shriek, her parents came running, the neighbors came running. Perhaps her parents saw, they were the first on the scene. It would explain what came later. But by the time anyone else got there, the damage was done. Kassandra was bleeding from a nasty bite wound.. and the dog was laying on the ground in a pool of blood, whimpering. It looked like it had been whipped to pieces, almost.
She still bears the scar from that bite, too. A terrible reminder of the beginning of the end of Kassandra's happy life. Her parents started drifting apart, her mother often 'visiting' her sister in Portland, her father working longer hours. Leaving Kassandra to largely raise herself, with the help of some teenage babysitters that hung around until she was too old for them. Her parents barely spoke anymore, and as puberty approached, Kassandra became a sullen girl, withdrawn and rebellious. Only when Kass rebelled, things happened. The tv cracked when she and her father argued over her getting a piercing. When her mother denied her pretty new shoes for a dance, the washer overflowed and flooded the washroom. And then came the homecoming dance. She'd been asked by a boy she really liked, but her parents said there wasn't money for a dress or tickets. Kassandra raged, and attacked her parents. The flailing of a teenage girl should never have hit so hard. Bruises, cuts... by the end of it, her mother had a broken collarbone and wrist. Her father had deep lacerations across his face and chest, some of which even required stitching.
That's when Kassandra Hughes was taken to the hospital. The old mental asylum... she was labeled with all kinds of diagnoses. ODD, SAD, BPD, even borderline schizophrenia according to one doctor. The next years were a haze. A fog of memories so veiled as to seem more like dreams. Or nightmares. She couldn't remember almost anything at all about her time there, other than a sense that it was a BAD PLACE. So when she found herself standing in front of her childhood home with a vague memory of being 'released', there was nothing but relief. Her parents were still there, still shells of themselves. They often eye Kass when they think she can't see them, making her feel like perhaps she needs to get a job and get out as soon as possible. After all, they got rid of her once didn't they? What they did once, they might well do again....
At just over average height, Kassandra could easily fade into the background were it not for that bright shock of coppery auburn hair topping her head. Falling to just below her shoulders in long layers, its most often left loose with the occasional ponytail pulling the mass of fiery locks away from her face. Her features are pleasing enough though certainly nothing out of the ordinary; with muddy brown eyes often surrounded by dark eyeliner and dark lashes, pale skin covering a square face and delicately pointed chin, slender nose, and a mouth that seems almost too small for her face. She has an average frame, neither overly athletic or delicate, neither skinny nor fat. She tends towards simple, comfortable clothes of a darker hue with an eye towards lowrider jeans and Chuck Taylors. There's almost always a messenger bag banging against her hip, brimming with various bits and bobs.
