Eleanor
This 1927 Craftsman is well kept and updated while maintaining it's original charm. The siding is painted a deep royal blue with cream colored trim, and brick on the sides of the stairs. The lawn is neatly kept, and the landscaping is simple and well-tended. On one side of the small porch is a white swing with pillows in shades of blue. There is a pretty seasonal wreath on the blue front door.
The front door opens into an open living space, with white walls, natural wood beams across the ceilings, hardwood floors, and boho chic d�cor. The living room furniture is also white with colorful throw pillows, orange and blue accents, and a geometric rug. A television hangs on a wall over a fireplace.
The master bedroom is also white, but the wall behind the bed has been painted deep blue. The queen bed has an interesting woven wood frame, and in one corner is a white wicker hanging egg chair. There are white painted nightstands and dresser, fuzzy white foot stools, and a bright turquoise bench at the end of the bed. The bathroom has a clawfoot tub, and separate shower.
One of the two other bedrooms is clearly a guest room, and the last is a home office. The walls are covered in cork and white boards, maps full of colored pins with flags and strings, newspaper clippings, filing cabinets, and an L-shaped desk with computer and peripherals.
Note: There are no mirrors or reflective surfaces in this house. Windows have at least sheers over them, if not blinds or drapes. The windows on the appliances, all brushed stainless, have a film over them to make them matte and non reflective. There are no glass picture frames or chrome/smooth glass decor. Nothing bigger than a deck of cards is reflective, except for a small mirrored door in the medicine cabinet of the guest bathroom.

I was born here, and I’d always sensed things a little weird here and there, but I think all kids do, no matter where they are and whether or not they glimmer. Children are just more open to seeing, hearing, smelling things we as adults get distracted from noticing. I had a best friend, Addie. We went to grade school together and entered middle school in the same class, because our last names were both in the Ls.
Addie was kind and sweet and generous and the best friend I could have ever asked for. We’d been living in an apartment building, but when I was twelve, we moved into a house on Spruce. Our first real home. There was room for me, and for my soon to arrive baby brother. It wasn’t the biggest house, but it had two stories and a basement and attic. The basement was about ten degrees cooler in the summer, so Addie and I would sometimes sneak down there to play cards or barbies or whatever.
There was just one bare bulb in the main area, where the washer and dryer were, and where we had stored our Christmas decorations and such. Mom had put a little card table down there with some folding chairs, and we sat at that and talked about boys and school and all the things young girls talk about. There were other parts of the basement we didn’t go into though. It was like we knew they were off somehow. An old room had the big old gas furnace and some things a previous owner had left: furniture covered up with drop clothes, cardboard boxes. And one day, we decided to investigate. We had a couple of flashlights and more bravery than we should have as we opened that door.
Addie pulled a cloth off one piece of furniture. It was a mirror, one of those big floor length ones, ornate and with a dark wood frame with scrollwork and etching and acanthus leaves. We could tell it was really old, the glass had those black edges from the silver nitrate and copper sulfate coatings oxidizing over the decades. We were posing in front of it, jostling for who was in front, when something reached out of the glass and pulled us in. Pulled us through, to the Dream.
Addie and I were in a forest. Woods. Dark and raining and lightning blasting across the sky. All the trees were dead, all the bushes were withered and the animals were just piled of bones. Addie, she was strong, her Glimmer, much stronger than I am. The thing there, it was a dying thing, I think it might once have been something beautiful. But now it was twisted and horrible. It was huge, and had hands and four legs with hooves, and arms that turned into antlers like the branches of a tree, and spikes along it’s back. It wanted to keep her, keep Addie, and make her fix his woods, forever and ever. She refused.
It lifted her up and poured something from it’s...I don’t even know if it was a mouth, into hers. A dark, tar-like fluid that made her scream and gurgle. I grabbed her leg and pulled her away from it and set the thing’s leg on fire. It dropped her and we ran, ran back the way we came. The door appeared again, and we dove through it, out the other side of the mirror. Addie was still screaming. And I used the flashlight on the floor to smash the mirror glass. And then it was over. Or I thought it was.
Addie had been healthy, kind, sweet, like I said. Within months of the incident, she became mean, cruel even. She hurt animals, she burned things. And then they discovered she was full of cancer. Lymphoma. Stage 4. It was eating away at her, withering her on the inside, just like that place,. She died a year to the day we were taken. That was when I started my research.
The Husband. I'm smitten. He makes me better. He makes me braver. He makes me hungry for more. Something like fate has brought us together, to be there for one another to lean on, to be pulled up by, to just lie down in the pit with so we have company in our misery. We've faced the Dream together. I don't deserve him, but I'll do everything I can to earn his heart. We got engaged, thanks to Glimmer Gone Wild on Bachelor's Day, and decided to see it through. Now we’ve exchanged rings and vows and this new chapter begins!

Eleanor Lake was born and raised in Gray Harbor. Her parents moved there from Texas after they married and a few years later, Ellie came into the weird world that is the small Washington town. After high school, she went to the community college and got an Associate's Degree in Business Management, before taking out a loan and opening her own coffee shop, Espresso Yourself. It became a hangout for the millennials and the business set Downtown.
She used it as a source of information over the years. She's obsessed with all the weird crap that happens in town, and she's collected every shred of information on it she can. She has a room in her apartment which she keeps locked, full of maps with pins and strings marking incidents and linked scenarios, newspaper clippings, photos of witnesses to occurrences of the Veil or Glimmer, things like that. She has scrapbooks of town lore.
Her own experiences with things are few and far between, but she has her own little bit of glimmer and a touch of each aspect. What she's seen has been enough to have her learn self defense and take up learning boxing and such at the local gym.
This woman looks to be in her mid-30s, with long red hair and expressive green eyes. Her skin is pale, and it looks like past exposure to the sun has left her with a smattering of freckles across her nose and cheeks. She has a heart-shaped face with a small, slightly upturned nose and full lips, making her look a bit younger than she is. She looks to be in good shape, lean and athletic. She tends to dress casually.
